Chapter 184: Chapter 183: Mister?
Chapter 183: Mister?
In South Sea City, at the headquarters of Reform Biotechnology Corporation, Michael Jin had been working tirelessly for days. His bloodshot eyes and slightly disheveled hair betrayed his exhaustion.
However, his spirit was high, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he repeatedly caressed the report in his hands as if it were a priceless treasure.
Michael had no idea what the experiment he worked on was meant for, only that it related to monster studies and immunology. The task was exceptionally challenging, nearly impossible for most.
But completing it promised a promotion, a raise, and—most importantly—a personal commendation from the elegant and coldly beautiful CEO, Yvette Ivanova.
The money was secondary. What mattered was receiving recognition directly from the esteemed CEO herself!
Michael's gaze sparkled with anticipation. Today, he would meet the sophisticated and regal goddess of the company once again.
"Mike, did you really crack that tough project?"
"Impressive, Mike! You're going places now. The company will definitely reward you well!"
On his way to the CEO's top-floor office, colleagues greeted him warmly, and several women looked at him with admiration.
News of Michael's breakthrough had spread like wildfire among the company's research team. With the report in hand, his confident stride toward the top floor left no doubt that he was on his way to claim credit for a job well done.
Relishing the recognition, Michael proudly lifted his head as he approached the CEO's office.
At the door, there was a service desk specifically for the CEO's office. All calls and visitors had to be screened by the professional receptionist stationed there.
The woman in her tailored uniform made a polite call to the office, relayed the information, and hung up carefully. She then gave Michael a playful smile.
"Section Chief Michael, don't forget to look out for me in the future!"
Michael scratched the back of his head, feigning humility. "Oh, come on, I'm not a section chief yet."
Though his tone was modest, his heart was brimming with joy.
The receptionist's eyes sparkled as she teased, "I'm always near President Ivanova, and I know how much she values this data. You've made a huge contribution, and that promotion is as good as yours. Don't forget to treat me to a meal!"
Michael, with his good looks and decent wealth, was popular among the women at Reform Biotechnology. He smiled and replied, "Of course, I'll definitely treat you."
Adjusting his attire, he knocked three times before stepping into the office.
Behind a grand wooden desk, a mature and composed woman in a striped suit was focused on her computer, her fair fingers tapping away at the keyboard.
Michael's gaze burned with admiration. Yvette Ivanova, the dream woman of every man in the company.
She removed her gold-rimmed glasses and greeted him with a professional smile. "Michael, you've been doing exceptionally well lately. Once the final data is complete, you'll be the hero of this project. How can I help you today? I'll do my best."
For some reason, Michael felt nervous and stammered, "President Ivanova, the report is here. Please have a look."
His hands trembled slightly as he placed the laptop on her desk.
"It's done?" Yvette's eyes widened in surprise and delight. She had expected Michael to finish the experiment quickly but hadn't anticipated it would be this fast.
Michael was truly outstanding. With this young talent's help, Sha Jingcheng's research had progressed much faster.
If Michael's final data were flawless, Sha Jingcheng's monster grafting technology could potentially enter the human testing phase after the Lunar New Year.
Thankfully, she hadn't disappointed Mister!
Yvette's gaze softened as she looked at Michael with approval, her eyes exuding both elegance and nobility. "You've done an excellent job. The experimental data has been consistently accurate. I didn't expect you to complete even the final step so flawlessly."
"Proofread your report thoroughly, and your task will be complete. I'm granting you a month's leave to rest and recharge. Make good use of it."
Michael's usual arsenal of flirtatious quips was nowhere to be found in this moment. He didn't dare say a word.
Receiving praise from the goddess herself sent his adrenaline skyrocketing.
He swallowed hard and stammered, "It's what I should do. Thank you, President Ivanova. I can still work. I don't need rest—I'm willing to keep working."
Just then, Yvette Ivanova's phone rang.
Her expression changed immediately as she answered, "What is it?"
Michael noticed her sudden shift and felt a wave of tension as well.
Listening to the call, Yvette's brows furrowed tighter and tighter until her eyes widened in shock. "What did you say?! Mister is injured?!"
Yvette shot up from her chair, her elegance and composure replaced by panic. "Take care of him. I'm coming back immediately!"
She clicked her heels in a rush toward the door, nearly out before remembering Michael was still in the room.
Yvette paused, composed herself slightly, and addressed the bewildered Michael. "You can leave for now. Your promotion and bonus will be issued after the report is finalized."
With that, she left, her graceful silhouette lingering in Michael's mind as if he were completely invisible.
Michael stood in the office for a long moment, finally snapping out of it.
"Mister? Sounds like a man. So, there's someone in this world who can make President Ivanova lose her composure like that. Who is he?"
Feeling a strange sense of loss, Michael walked toward the door. Passing by a polished metal column, he turned to glance at his reflection.
What he saw was disheartening: bloodshot eyes, dried crust in the corners, disheveled, oily hair shiny enough to fry an egg.
Michael couldn't help but laugh bitterly. He had poured so much effort and heart into earning Yvette's favor, only to be faced with this reality.
"So, the president has a side like this… Mister." He adjusted his hair and muttered to himself.
In the old district, at a traditional Chinese-style mansion, a pure white Mercedes G-Class drove into the courtyard.
Yvette Ivanova got out hastily, leaving the car door wide open as she turned into a mist and rushed into the mansion.
Outside the master bedroom, Jack, wearing his signature ghostly mask, stood guard at the door.
The mist coalesced into Yvette's figure, her beautiful eyes filled with worry. "Mister was only gone for two days. How could he already be injured? Is it serious?"
Jack's face was grim as he replied, "I'm not sure what happened to the guild leader. All I know is that his condition is very poor."
"The guild leader I remember was as vibrant as the morning sun. But now, he seems like an old man in his twilight years."
Jack stood up and walked toward the staircase. "I'll remain here until the guild leader wakes. We should also summon the Hungry Ghost back."
"We must exercise the utmost caution during this time. Lady Werewolf should know—if anything happens to the guild leader, all of Four Seas City will be thrown into chaos."
Alexander was the cornerstone of the Mercenary Guild and the sole key to managing the hunters.
If anything were to happen to Alexander, the Mercenary Guild would lose access to the extraordinary plant rewards, and the hunters with Super Fruits would no longer face the deterrence of the Heavenly Flame of Creation.
The guild would spiral completely out of control.
Such a catastrophe would rival a monster siege—or worse. The consequences were unthinkable.
