Chapter 182: Chapter 181: President of the White Mountain City Branch
Chapter 181: President of the White Mountain City Branch
Mark sat at his seat, staring intently at the woman. The more he looked, the more he felt something was off.
Finally, he couldn't hold back any longer. Making up an excuse, he left the command room and immediately called Alexander.
Alexander quickly answered, "Mark."
Hearing Alexander's voice and knowing he was okay, Mark let out a sigh of relief but quickly became anxious. "Alex, where are you? Are you alright?"
Mark was worried. The woman was wearing James's clothes and helmet, which made him fear something might have happened to Alexander.
On the other end of the line, Alexander replied, "Didn't you ask me to find medicine for Uncle Carl? I've been searching all day but haven't found anything."
Mark immediately asked, "What about James?"
Alexander seemed to understand what was going on and chuckled. "James dropped me off at Changbai Mountain and disappeared. I have no idea where he went. I'm looking for him right now. Why? What's going on?"
Mark stole a glance back at the command room, his mind full of questions. He didn't understand what was happening—why the woman was wearing James's clothes. He suspected that the crisis in White Mountain City wasn't over.
Jonathan King Sr.'s death had been abrupt, and the appearance of this woman and the man in the ghost mask was equally sudden.
Mark believed it was likely the work of those pulling strings behind Jonathan King Sr.
A sense of conspiracy loomed over White Mountain City.
Feeling uneasy, Mark said to Alexander, "Alex, can I ask you a favor?"
"Go ahead," Alexander responded.
Mark continued, "My father's condition is quite serious. If you can't find the herbs in Changbai Mountain, could you go to South Sea City and find someone for me? He lives in the western district of the new city, on Seaview Road. His last name is Lau, and he's an old man. Please bring him to White Mountain City. Years ago, he treated my father. Do whatever you can—I don't want to lose my dad."
The old man on Seaview Road in South Sea City didn't exist. Mark had made it up.
He wanted Alexander to leave White Mountain City, this place of trouble, and quickly return to South Sea.
Mark didn't dare tell Alexander about the dangers in White Mountain City, fearing Alexander would get involved.
"Alright," Alexander agreed.
...
The people in the command room were preoccupied with their own thoughts. Although they had defended White Mountain City, no one felt like celebrating, so the hastily arranged banquet ended early.
Jack and the woman who called herself the Beast Tamer were treated as honored guests of White Mountain City. Their accommodations were accordingly arranged at the Rose Garden Hotel, which had once been a five-star establishment.
Though the hotel was now somewhat dilapidated, the top floor still had functional electricity and water, all arranged by Carl Ruffelo.
Mark wanted to have a good talk with Carl Ruffelo; too many things had happened today. On his way to Carl Ruffelo's room, he paused outside his own.
The door was ajar, with light spilling out from within.
Someone was inside!
Mark frowned and gently pushed the door open. He peeked inside cautiously, unsure who the intruder was.
"No one? Could they be hiding in the bathroom? Or have they already left?"
Muttering under his breath, Mark stepped inside.
As soon as he entered, all the lights went out, plunging the room into darkness.
Mark's eyes widened in alarm as he looked around warily.
Suddenly, a white flame rose from the chandelier, illuminating the room without harming the fixture. The white flame took over the chandelier's role as a light source.
Next, all the room's lighting fixtures were ignited with white fire, casting an eerie glow throughout the space.
Mark felt a chill run down his spine. He began to back away slowly.
"Huh?"
He bumped into something—someone. Mark turned around.
It was the woman who called herself the Beast Tamer, with her black motorcycle helmet, cascading waves of long hair, and cropped white T-shirt.
She was still wearing James's clothes.
Mark spoke coldly, "I knew something was off about you. Who are you? Why are you in my room?"
The Beast Tamer slowly lowered her head in a gesture of reverence, directing it toward a particular spot in the room.
Mark's gaze followed hers to the sofa.
At some point, a young man had appeared there, sitting casually. He wore a black tracksuit with the hood pulled up and a crying ghost king mask covering his face.
Mark's brows furrowed deeply. "You..."
Alexander sat lazily on the sofa, one leg crossed over the other, and spoke in a soft voice, "Mercenary Guild, President."
So, this was the mysterious president, and the Mercenary Guild turned out to be the extraordinary organization Mark had speculated about!
Mark's face was full of confusion. "You..."
Alexander smirked and continued, "We are the ones hidden in the shadows of the world—"
Before he could finish, Mark interrupted, "You're Alex?"
The smile on Alexander's face froze.
Who would've thought that even in this ghostly disguise, Mark would recognize him at first glance?
...
Half an hour later.
Mark was holding a phone, flipping through information.
The app he was browsing belonged to the Mercenary Guild. Though it wasn't connected to the internet, it still allowed him to check announcements and other basic information.
As he scrolled, Mark couldn't help but exclaim.
The Mercenary Guild was an extraordinary organization! Those supernatural plants were actually created by the Mercenary Guild!
And his close buddy, Alexander, was part of the Guild's leadership!
Mark smacked his lips in amazement. "Alex, when did you get this badass? We haven't seen each other in half a year, and you're already a big shot in an extraordinary organization?"
Alexander removed his mask, resting his head on his hand. "Do you want to be a big shot in an extraordinary organization?"
Mark paused, then his eyes lit up. "Alex, please take me with you!"
Alexander chuckled at Mark's antics but quickly straightened up and said seriously, "I want to establish a branch of the Mercenary Guild in White Mountain City, and I want you to be the branch president."
Mark's body stiffened as if struck by lightning.
What had he just heard? White Mountain City was about to get its own extraordinary organization, and he was going to be in charge of it?!
After calming down, Mark sat cross-legged on the floor with a bitter expression. "Will the other leaders of your guild even agree to this?"
Alexander rising to a leadership position in the Mercenary Guild within six months was already beyond Mark's comprehension.
What he couldn't imagine was that Alexander was actually the founder of the Guild.
The Mercenary Guild was already a well-established organization—it couldn't have been set up in just a short period.
Moreover, while scrolling through Alexander's phone, Mark had seen a picture of a sexy woman in leather, wearing a dog-head mask, posted on a cached forum.
There were plenty of comments under the post.
According to the comments, this woman was one of the top leaders of the Mercenary Guild.
Mark assumed the Guild had multiple presidents, like in some vampire anime he had watched before.
The affairs of extraordinary organizations were beyond anyone's full understanding.
Alexander paused and then, pretending to be mysterious, said, "Don't worry. I'll take care of it for you."
Mark beamed. "Alex, you're the best! So, how many people will I get to command as branch president?"
He figured that being a branch president would come with a sizable team under his command.
Alexander pointed at James. "You'll be in charge of her."
Mark gave James a skeptical look.
At Alexander's signal, James removed the motorcycle helmet, revealing a delicate and beautiful face.
It was James!
Mark couldn't help but exclaim, "What the hell?!"
His brain short-circuited.
When Mark suspected the woman was James, he didn't think much of it.
But now that he was sure the woman was James, he couldn't keep his cool.
Wasn't James just a cross-dressing weakling?
How could this cross-dresser display power far beyond a C-rank during the demon siege?
Could it be… that James had always been part of the Guild?
What kind of game was the leadership of the Mercenary Guild playing in White Mountain City?
Mark looked at Alexander with questioning eyes.
Alexander explained, "Because of the Super Fruit."
