Chapter 16 - Rank up to Expert Swordsman
When I placed my hand on the granite of the oracle shrine, a text appeared.
‘Do you wish to upgrade your rank from Samurai to Expert Swordsman? YES/NO’
“Alright, I really can! Of course yes, yes, YESSS!”
I went from ‘Samurai’ to ‘Expert Swordsman’ and gained new powers.
I am now equal to Kumiko’s ‘chuunin’ and my abilities are increased. With this, even if someone tried to approach me while hidden, I should be able to detect them if I’m careful.
Since it is only at the oracle that one can check one’s current rank and upgrade one’s occupation, it was worth coming back to the city just to do this.
Of course, I should also check the rank indicator.
‘Wataru Shinjo
Age: 16
Occupation: Expert Swordsman
Warrior Rank: Expert
Acrobat Rank: Master
Monk Rank: Artisan
Magician Rank: Master’
The various ranks have grown in a well-balanced manner. Almost as planned.
I fought so desperately to reach the Expert rank, but even so, it meant I had become a full-fledged swordsman, which wasn’t bad.
Even if my level doesn’t max out quickly, that’s fine.
With this, I could now fight as a proper swordsman. The journey begins now.
I’m rather excited to think that I can still become stronger.
I can only say that because I feel like I’m not losing to Kumiko.
I don’t care what other people think, but in the world of GenoReal, I want to be the strongest swordsman.
If I couldn’t rank up my profession, I would dive into the dungeon in a dash and wouldn’t return for another week.
As I said before, if you just want to clear the game, you can do it by sheer force of numbers, using characters who have been trained to expert status in their specialty.
There must be more than a hundred students in this town.
If a hundred people, all experts in magic, unleash a barrage of fireballs, they should be able to break through by sheer force.
When we reach the end, there probably won’t be more than ten survivors, but even so, clearing the game is clearing it.
Even if we set the condition not to let anyone die and clear the game properly, on average, if we raise our characters to the Expert level and their specialties to Middle Master, we should be able to proceed safely.
If it is just to clear, there is no need to raise them to the highest rank.
However, regardless of clearing the game, getting excessively strong and pushing your characters to their limits is the essence of GenoReal.
“I’m checking mine, too.”
Following me, Ussa puts her hand on the granite at the oracle.
“Oh, I’ve also been upgraded from ‘martial artist’ to ‘kenpoist’!
I was a little curious to see how strong Ussa was since she had already told me that she was a Low Master.
I peeked at Ussa’s data displayed on the granite.
‘Arisdia
Age: 15
Occupation: kenpoist
Warrior Rank: Low Master
Acrobat : Master
Monk Rank: Apprentice
Sorcerer Rank: Novice’
Ussa is quite biased towards the physical side. This is what happens when they work together in a party, because they only do the jobs they are good at.
It’s evident at a glance that she hardly uses magic, being more of a brute force fighter.
A martial artist is a mid-level job specializing in vanguard, but a ‘kenpoist’ is in the same league as Kumiko’s ‘chunin’ or my ‘Expert Swordsman’ in terms of rank.
It seems like she has accumulated ample combat experience and is skilled enough to use the profession effectively, making it an excellent front-line job.

After finishing the rank-up at the oracle, the next stop is the stores.
First, we went to the weapon shop and the armor shop. I wanted to buy some hard leather armor, but also because I wanted to convert the gems I didn’t need into gold coins to give to Seki and the others.
“By the way, Ussa, are you okay with that kind of equipment? Wouldn’t it be better to buy some equipment or something?”
I know she’s a martial artist and doesn’t need weapons, but what about her armor, an apron dress?
So, going up to the sixth floor, isn’t that too absurd? I would say that’s why they almost got wiped out.
We have plenty of gold coins, so we can afford to buy Ussa some light equipment.
Sure, there is the kinky fun of training martial artists and ninjas to the limit and then walking around the lowest levels of the city bare-assed.
But I think that’s not the case for Ussa, let alone me, who is just having fun on this adventure.
Heavy armor, gauntlets, and knee pads would ruin a martial artist’s advantage, but a breastplate or hard leather armor that allows freedom of limb would make her safer.
“Dear, I can’t fit into this armor. My chest size…”
Ussa blushed and looked down in embarrassment.
Indeed, when you looked at it, Ussa had a petite frame with unusually large breats. With this physique, not even armor, let alone a Martial Artist’s uniform, would fit properly.
Is the apron dress, which seems to be custom-made, one of the few pieces of equipment that suits Ussa’s body shape? She is a victim of the extreme deformation that is common in old games.
If they were going to make her realistic anyway, they should have thought a little more about the character.
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize that.”
“Oh, but this apron dress is designed for the Rabbit Tribe’s warriors. It’s made of sturdy magic fabric, so it’s strong.”
I couldn’t help but question the Rabbit Tribe’s sense of fashion for choosing an apron dress for close combat, but since it didn’t seem to cause any practical problems, I decided to let it go.
“Hey, Wataru-kun. Why are you trying to buy hard leather armor when you are wearing steel armor?”
“This armor is too heavy for my fighting style, so I’m thinking of giving it to Seki.”
“Then I can give you my chainmail. It’s lighter than hard leather armor, and it’s more durable.”
“That’s true, but what about your equipment Kumiko?”
“I have another chainmail, so I can give you the one I’m wearing now if you want.”
“Hmmm…”
Kumiko has a keen intuition, she must have noticed that I was looking at her equipment with a greedy look on my face.
But I have no right to be treated with charity by Kumiko. As I hesitated, Kumiko put her hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear.
“Don’t be shy, because what’s mine is also yours, Wataru-kun.”
“What do you mean…”
“I have a lot of items because when I was chasing Wataru-kun to the fourth floor, I found a lot of treasure chests that weren’t opened.”
“I see, so you’re saying that they were originally left by me. If that’s the case, I’ll take it as my share.”
I decided to put on the chainmail Kumiko had taken off. It’s much better than hard leather armor.
Seeing me like that, for some reason, Ussa looked dissatisfied, and Kumiko started giggling.
“What’s so funny?”
“Well… No, can you feel the warmth of my skin?”
Well, it was Kumiko’s used one, wasn’t it?
It was the chainmail she had worn earlier, so it still had the warmth of human skin and a faint scent.
“It’s too late for that, I don’t care about that.”
“Well, it’s not a big deal to us now.”
“This woman kind of pisses me off. Get away from my husband, titless!”
“And you’re a useless meat bunny!”
As I was being harassed by Kumiko, Ussa attempted to intervene but was rebuffed.
And this is what happens in the town when you attack with hostile intent.
I’m already learning that there’s no use in trying to mediate these guys’ racket.
I consciously shut out the sounds of Kumiko and Ussa fighting and concentrated on my shopping.
Now that I’ve obtained the chainmail, I’ll just replace the leather knee guards, cloak, and boots, and gloves with new ones.
Like Kumiko, I’m the type of person who values ease of movement, so this is about all the armor I need.
“Well, now that the shopping is done, Kumiko. Where is that guy Seki?”
“If it’s like usual, he should be training at the blacksmith’s.”
Hmm, he’s training diligently as I suggested.
Not as much as he trains deep in the dungeon, but if he’s diligent, he should be getting pretty good at it. I’m looking forward to seeing my friend, whom I haven’t seen in a while, grow.
What if his warrior rank has risen too high and Seki’s body has become too muscular?
I hope not.
“Dear, a little this way!”
“What?”
I was walking along thinking about that when suddenly Ussa pulled me by the arm.
“Do the human race breed outside?”
“Eh…”
What Ussa was looking at was a park.
It is just an area of grass and trees in a little open space, but it soothes people’s eyes.
There is a fountain in the center of the park. Just like in a dungeon, fresh water is freely available.
You could say it is an important spot that supports the town’s lifeline.
However, it had an unusually pink atmosphere and had become a lifeline in a different sense.
Couples, couples, couples… They weren’t just sitting on benches; they had spread sheets on the grass, and couples were passionately indulging in each other.
It would be cute if they were just hugging and kissing each other.
But there were some shameless individuals who had undressed each other and were entangled so intensely that it made you wonder if they were “doing it”.
From behind a thicket of tall weeds and bushes, I could hear sweet voices saying “no” and “yes” and ” good,” and impassioned cries that were indistinct.
Hey, hey…
“What the hell is this, hey Kumiko?”
“That little bunny there is right. It could be that everyone is under a lot of stress, and when lives are at stake, people will want to breed. Gold is in short supply, and many of the regular students don’t have the money to rent an inn.”
So they can’t afford the high cost of inns to flirt with each other, so they’re fucking in the park.
At this rate, in ten months, the population of the town, which had been decreasing, might increase.
“Ha-ha-ha, you can’t breed outside… Oh, it’s so outrageous to do it in front of everyone. It’s embarrassing, isn’t it, the way humans breed?”
She pretends to be disgusted, but a pink heart mark is floating in Ussa’s moist blue eyes. I don’t know if she’s doing it on purpose or unconsciously, but she’s been squeezing my arm against her huge breasts since a while ago.
Come to think of it, she told me that the Rabitta Rabbit tribe is so voracious in their desire to reproduce that the world almost ended because of their overabundancE.
The scene was unpleasant for Ussa, so I wanted to pass through quickly, but there was one thing that caught my attention.
A sign was posted by the park’s fountain, which was an infinite water source, and it read: “Use without permission from the Student Council is prohibited.”
“Kumiko, what’s the Student Council?”
“It’s an organization that Vice President Nanami created in town. There are some people who are against it, but officially, it’s supposed to include everyone in the city. It has become a mutual aid organization that manages the park used by everyone and ensures that the gold coins obtained from adventures are distributed equally to everyone.”
It seemed that Shuichi Nanami had turned the Student Council, always keeping in mind that they were still students of Yuurin High until the day everyone could return to Japan, into the city’s governing organization, promoting cooperation among its members.
By the way, Kumiko was also a member of the Student Council and received treatment similar to that of an executive.
“Hmm, Student Council, huh?”
Listening to her, the ideology sounded very righteous.
It seemed fitting for Shuichi Nanami, who was known for his good conduct, but…
“Wataru-kun, you think it’s fishy, don’t you?”
“Don’t read my thoughts, Kumiko.”
The fact that they were specifically managing a park that should be accessible to everyone seemed a bit fishy.
As I pondered this, Ussa had somehow moved in front of me without me noticing.
Slowly lifting the frilly skirt of her blue apron dress.
Ussa murmurs to me with moist eyes.
“Master, if this is the way of human reproduction, I am so embarrassed that I can’t stand it, but I will try my best.”
“Ussa, doing it in the open air is a peculiar play, not the etiquette of the human race.”
“You should be a little more modest, Erotic Rabbit!”
Kumiko spat at Ussa. That’s true, but you’re the virgin slut, so you don’t get to say that.
Before Kumiko and Ussa could argue again, we decided to hurry to the blacksmith shop where Seki was.
A closer look around town revealed that the streets were full of couples engaging in entanglement without a care in the world.
And even though I try to be a tough guy, I’ve got Ussa slut on the right and Virgin slut on the left.
Oh, are there only slutty women in this world?
Only Seki can comfort my heart.
※※※
“Hey, Seki. You’ve gotten a little stronger.”
“Ah, Shinjo-kun. Long time no see!”
When we reached the blacksmith shop, Seki was swinging his large sword, Scramasax, against the steel wall.
It seemed she had been diligently practicing combat against the blacksmith’s wall. The worn-out blade, battered and broken, told the story of Seki’s efforts.
When he saw my face, he waved his hand happily.
I praised Seki and handed him a towel.
“Looks like you’re working hard.”
“Phew, thanks Shinjo-kun.”
Seki happily wipes the sweat from his forehead with the towel I gave him.
From the damp, bluish-green hair and skin covered in sweat, a subtly sweet and sour scent emanates.
Seki’s body, slender and agile from him training, had gained a sharper impression.
But strangely, it had also become more endearing.
Seki’s slender shoulders and the shirt clinging to his skin due to sweat subtly revealed the pink peaks of his slightly swelling chest.
Looking at it, my heart ached, but I wondered if it was really okay to continue to watch.
No, we’re boys, so there shouldn’t be any problem, but damn….
I know it sounds like a lie, but this is how boys are. This world is absolutely wrong.
Well, even gods die, and worlds perish, after all.
Is this what they mean by cursing one’s birth? It’s pointless to lament the inevitable, though.
I handed Seki my bag of coins along with the full set of steel armor I had been wearing.
“Thank you for everything, even this fine armor… Is Shinjo-kun’s equipment any good?”
“I got this chainmail from Kumiko. The steel armor would be too rough for Seki to wear, but it’s irreplaceable for saving lives. Oh, right, take this too.”
“A ring… For me?”
I casually offered a ring with a red gem along with the equipment, but it seemed to slightly perplex Seki.
Somehow, there’s a strange pause….
Wait, why is there such an atmosphere? I mean, it’s just a ring; there’s no deeper meaning to it.
“No, it’s not like that. This is a magic item. It’s a ‘Ring of Warning’. It vibrates when danger approaches, a handy accessory!”
“Yeah, I see… Thanks!”
Seeing me hurriedly explain, Seki smiled as if to dispel the strange atmosphere and accepted the ring I offered with both hands while expressing his gratitude.
For a moment, the touch of our hands felt oddly embarrassing.
“Hey, what are you guys doing getting into a flirty mood with each other?”
“We’re not!”
Kumiko’s words don’t make any sense to me at all!
Kumiko, with her eyes glazed over, holds out her hand to me.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“I know you have a ring for me too, give it to me.”
I don’t want to give it to you even if I had one.
Well, I can’t say no after receiving the chainmail from her earlier.
“Oh, and for your wife too!”
“Ussa too? Hold on a second.”
I rummaged through my backpack and handed Kumiko the pendant of protection and Ussa the talisman of evasion.
I’m glad I’ve somehow included ornamental accessories for these guys in my luggage, even if it’s just on Seki’s behalf.
“So it’s not a ring…”
“It’s not a ring…”
Don’t be picky, guys.
Think of it as a present for you all following Seki’s example.
“Ahahaha, that’s somewhat typical of Shinjo-kun, isn’t it?”
“I don’t really get what you think of me is.”
Seki laughed heartily after looking at Kumiko and Ussa, who were sulking for some reason.
I’m impressed that Seki is not at all perturbed when he hears that I have a rabbit for a wife.
Then he looked dismayed at Ussa and Kumiko, who were fighting over which gift they got from me was more significant.
Seki switched the subject, as if he was trying to give me a helping hand.
“Right, I wanted to ask when Shinjo-kun when he comes back. This isn’t Earth after all, is it?”
“That’s most likely true, given the moon?”
Seki murmurs with a sigh, scrutinizing and looking up at the big full moon dimly floating in the azure sky.
It’s a game world, so I suppose it’s only natural that it’s not Earth.
“Because it’s daytime and it’s a full moon, it’s physically impossible.”
“Eh?”
I’m not sure what Seki means.
“Well… See, the moon shines because of the reflection of the sun, right?”
“Oh, I see!”
I finally realized when he pointed that out. This was middle school level science, let alone high school level.
The moon reflects the light of the sun. When it’s a full moon, the sun should be on the opposite side of the moon.
It’s impossible for the sun to be out during the day and have a ‘full moon’ at the same time.
It means that the moon in GenoReal is not the moon we know, nor is it a satellite that reflects the sun’s light.
“Thank God, Shinjo-kun, you understand. When I talked about how the moon is strange, everyone just wanted to clear the game quickly or go back home. They didn’t seem interested in understanding how this world works.”
“Well, maybe they just don’t have the luxury to think about those things.”
Seki was floating around in F class in a different way than I was, probably because he was in the math club or something.
It’s not a bad thing, but he’s a bit of a drifter. That’s because he wouldn’t be taken seriously if he talked about the moon when everyone else is desperate to get out of this situation.
“To get out of the current situation, I think we have to first make sure we know where we are. Everyone says it’s a game world, but I don’t think we should stop thinking there. For example, that satellite is glowing on its own.”
The moon that Seki pointed to was still in the same position and full as it had been ten days ago.
That moon will always exist in that position and glow on its own. The question is, is that really just a satellite?
“A moon that glows on its own, or in this game setting, we’re talking about mana coming from the moon on the wind.”
“So, what exactly is this game world? I can’t accept it at face value. We were just in the classroom receiving lessons, and we didn’t do anything to enter a game world.”
“Could it be because there was no triggering event?”
When I said this, Seki nodded firmly.
I see, I’m starting to understand what Seki is getting at. He’s discussing the causality of things.
Seki, unlike me and gamers like that fuzzy guy, can’t accept that this is a game world based solely on our resemblance.
If we entered a game world, there must have been some reason for it. The fact that we can’t identify that reason means the “game world” theory isn’t conclusive.
“This town is very convenient, they even sell telescopes. So I did some astronomical observations, and some of the constellations we are familiar with were approximated. Of course, the positions of the objects are quite different from those of the Earth, so I was able to eliminate the possibility that this could be somewhere on Earth. Maybe this is a different planet from Earth in the same universe. Or it could be a parallel world where the celestial bodies are in similar positions.”
As Seki continued to talk as if a dam had burst, he sighed deeply, seeming a bit tired.
He said that even when he talked about such things to people other than me, they didn’t listen to him at all.
Everyone is so focused on surviving, and they only look at what’s right in front of them.
Even I, like Seki, looked up at the sky and didn’t notice at all that there was something wrong with the full moon.
No, only Seki would have noticed such a thing.
In the midst of this unusual situation, it’s only this guy who would notice the strangeness of the full moon and think about measuring celestial positions.
Seki even brought out tools like a pendulum experiment apparatus and happily talked about how the gravitational acceleration was showing a different number than Earth’s.
I like Seki because he tells me things that I would never have thought possible and shows me a completely different view.
To break through the current situation, “don’t stop thinking” is right… I guess that’s true.
We accept everything as a matter of course in this game world because it’s a game world, but when you think about it carefully, what is a game world?
It’s a fact that the dungeon here closely resembles the one in a game called “Genocide Reality” released in 1989.
However, jumping to the conclusion that we entered the game is premature.
I gaze silently at the bunny-eared girl smiling beside me.
As I watch her closely, she crosses her thin fingers and begins to fidget. Her ears are stretching and contracting.
“Why are you staring at me so passionately? I’m glad you’re staring at me, dear, but I’m also a little embarrassed unless we’re alone.”
So this is an NPC.
To me, Ussa looks human. No, I don’t think there are any humans with bunny ears, but they are real intelligent life forms acting on their own volition.
How can you think of Ussa as an artificially intelligent program just pretending to be human?
It’s a philosophical zombie problem, and there’s no end to it, but my gut feeling is that Ussa is a living being just like us.
“There you are, Shinjo Wataru-kun!”
We were having a discussion about what this world is when Shuichi Nanami and his group caught us.
They said they were in a hurry to find us after the incident in the dungeon.
Oh dear, we’ve been discovered by a bunch of nasty people.
I enjoyed talking to Seki, but I didn’t really want to talk to Nanami’s group.
“Wataru Shinjo, please, we really want to hear what you have to say!”
“What exactly do you want to hear?”
Is it about strategic information?
I’ve already cleared the rare items on the upper floors, so I guess I can share that information.
“No, what we want to hear is actually about that girl over there.”
Shuichi Nanami pointed to Ussa.
