Chapter 2: CHAPTER ONE
"Sir, your phone has been buzzing nonstop." The bartender's voice pulled him back to the present, snapping Cael out of his thoughts. He had been wondering why a distinguished man in a thousand-dollar suit was sitting in this rundown bar in this part of town, but no one had tried to mess with him so far. Everyone could sense the dangerous aura he gave off.
Cael glanced at his screen, seeing multiple missed calls and messages from his PA asking where he was. He sighed, rubbing his temples as he stood up. He had just finalized another multimillion-dollar deal—a transaction that would benefit the pack. But it had all started to feel hollow. Money and power no longer held the same thrill they once did.
He dropped a $100 bill on the counter, then stepped outside into the crisp evening air. The world seemed emptier than it had before. He had become a powerful businessman, a respected alpha, but it always felt like something was missing.
His thoughts were interrupted when someone collided into him from behind. He stumbled, catching himself before he fell, then turned to confront the person who had knocked into him.
His breath caught in his throat.
Standing before him was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was wide-eyed and panicked. Her dark hair, a cascade of curls, framed a delicate face, and her big blue doe eyes glistened with a mixture of fear and desperation. Cael froze, his wolf stirring inside him, protective instincts flaring. The woman's scent was unmistakable. Omega.
"Please, help me!" The omega's voice trembled, yanking Cael back to reality. "They've taken my sister! I smelled Alpha, that's why I came this way for help."
Cael frowned. "What do you mean by taken? By who?" His voice softened as he looked down at the omega, feeling a pull he couldn't explain.
"They're traffickers. We were coming back from shopping, and they dragged her into a warehouse down that alley." The omega's voice was frantic. "They know I'm an omega. They want me to exchange myself for her. Please… I don't know what to do. I can't face them alone. There are too many of them. My parents taught me that if I'm in grave danger, I should seek the nearest alpha or beta for help."
Those words sent a chill down Cael's spine. He knew the horrors omegas faced. They were hunted and treated like commodities in the sex trafficking world. Their beauty and werewolf ability to heal made them prized by those with twisted desires. Even alphas sold omegas within their packs or kept them as pets.
"What kind of parents would give their child such advice?" Cael wondered.
"Don't ever do that again," he scolded lightly, his tone firm but caring. "Even alphas and betas can be bad people."
Before Cael could finish, two large men rushed toward them from across the street, eyes locked on the omega. One of them snarled, grabbing the omega by the arm.
Rage flared inside Cael, and without hesitation, he stepped forward, grabbed the attacker's wrist, and twisted it until a sickening crack echoed in the alley as the man screamed in pain. Cael spun, slamming his elbow into the man's jaw, knocking him out cold. Without a pause, he moved toward the second thug, using his momentum against him. A high kick sent him face-first into the pavement, knocking him out before he even hit the ground.
The omega gasped, stepping back in shock. People around them gave Cael a wide berth, used to fights in this part of town, but Cael paid them no mind.
"My name is Cael. Where is she?" he demanded urgently.
The omega nodded, looking overwhelmed but determined. "Follow me."
They crossed the street quickly, and she led Cael down a dark alleyway. The warehouse loomed in front of them, a shady building that reeked of neglect. Cael grabbed the omega's arm, pulling her back before she could run into the building.
"Stay here," Cael instructed, his voice firm. "If things go south, call the contact saved as 'Jason' and tell him Cael said to call him." He handed the omega his phone, disabling the password security before passing it over.
The omega hesitated, but there was a flicker of resolve in her eyes. "But… there are too many of them. I can fight. I'm not completely helpless!"
Cael stepped closer, looming over her. "I've faced worse. And from what I can sense, most of them are human. What's your name?"
"Elisa," the omega replied, gripping Cael's suit jacket. "I still want to go with you. I caught a glimpse earlier before I escaped. This is their main spot. There are like 30 of them in there!"
"Alright, Elisa," Cael said, removing his suit jacket and dropping it on the floor. "We don't have time to waste. Stay behind me, find your sister, and get out." He turned, his eyes steely. "If we get overwhelmed, run. Follow the instructions I gave you earlier."
Elisa nodded, determination igniting in her eyes. Together, they approached the building. Two huge men were guarding the door, their expressions filled with menace, but Cael could smell they were human.
Taking a deep breath, he felt his wolf surge within him, sharpening his senses. "On my count, we run at them. Remember, stay behind me," Cael whispered to Elisa.
"Three… two… one… go!" he called out as he ran toward them.
