Chapter 12: Echoes of Despair
The cold night air hung heavy over Jujutsu High. The students were still recuperating from their grueling trials, but an unspoken tension lingered. For the first time in weeks, it felt like the calm before a storm—too quiet, too still.
Gojo stood on the roof of the main building, his arms crossed as he gazed into the darkness beyond the school grounds. His Infinity was deactivated, but his senses were sharp. He felt it—an ominous energy creeping closer, faint but unmistakable.
Behind him, Megumi climbed the stairs to join him. "You're not usually this quiet," Megumi said, leaning against the railing.
Gojo smirked without turning around. "Even I have my serious moments."
"Something's coming, isn't it?" Megumi asked.
Gojo's smirk faded. "Yeah. And it's big."
In the early hours of the morning, the attack began.
A series of explosions shattered the silence, and cursed energy surged across the campus. The students were jolted awake, scrambling to their feet as the alarms blared.
"Maki! Megumi! Get to the west gate!" Yaga's voice boomed over the intercom. "Panda, Yuta, Toge—secure the main building!"
The students quickly armed themselves and raced to their positions. The air was thick with cursed energy, and shadowy figures began to emerge from the forest surrounding the school.
Megumi and Maki reached the west gate first, where a group of curses were advancing. These weren't ordinary curses—they moved with precision, their attacks coordinated.
"Stay sharp," Maki said, gripping her cursed weapon.
Megumi summoned his divine dogs, sending them to flank the enemy. The battle was fierce, but the two held their ground, their training paying off in the chaos.
At the main building, Panda and Yuta were met with even stronger resistance. A hulking curse towered over them, its grotesque form radiating malice.
"Looks like we've got the big one," Panda said, cracking his knuckles.
Yuta nodded, summoning Rika. The curse roared, charging at them with terrifying speed. Panda intercepted its first attack, using his Gorilla Mode to block its massive claws.
Yuta and Rika attacked from the side, their combined power enough to stagger the curse. But it quickly recovered, retaliating with a blast of cursed energy that sent them both flying.
"We need to finish this fast," Yuta said, wiping blood from his mouth.
Panda growled. "Agreed."
Together, they launched a coordinated assault, exploiting the curse's blind spots. It took everything they had, but the curse eventually fell, its form disintegrating into cursed residue.
On the eastern side of the campus, a group of high-level curses was tearing through the barriers. Gojo arrived in a flash, his Infinity shimmering around him.
"Didn't anyone teach you not to trespass?" he said, his tone light but his expression deadly.
One of the curses, a humanoid figure with glowing red eyes, stepped forward. "Satoru Gojo," it hissed. "The so-called strongest. Let's see if you live up to the name."
The curse lunged at him, but it was futile. Gojo's Infinity stopped the attack before it even reached him.
"My turn," Gojo said, raising a hand. A blast of blue cursed energy erupted from his palm, obliterating the curse in an instant.
The remaining curses hesitated, but Gojo didn't give them a chance to regroup. With a series of precise and devastating attacks, he cleared the area, leaving nothing but silence in his wake.
As the battles raged on, a cloaked figure watched from the shadows. The leader of the curses observed the chaos with a cold smile.
"They're stronger than anticipated," the leader murmured. "But strength means nothing without unity."
With a wave of their hand, the leader unleashed a powerful wave of cursed energy. It rippled through the air, disorienting the sorcerers and disrupting their coordination.
At the west gate, Megumi and Maki were struggling to hold their ground. The cursed energy wave had thrown them off balance, and the curses were pressing their advantage.
"Maki!" Megumi shouted, summoning his Max Elephant to push back the attackers.
"I'm fine!" Maki replied, her voice strained. She parried an incoming strike, but the sheer force of it sent her stumbling.
Just as the curses closed in, Yuta and Panda arrived, battered but determined.
"We've got your back!" Yuta called, launching a barrage of cursed energy at the enemy.
The four sorcerers fought with everything they had, their combined strength slowly turning the tide.
As dawn broke, the curses began to retreat, their ranks decimated. The students regrouped near the main building, exhausted but victorious.
But the celebration was short-lived. A chilling laugh echoed through the air, and the cloaked figure stepped forward, their presence radiating overwhelming cursed energy.
"Impressive," the leader said, their voice smooth and mocking. "But this is only the beginning."
Gojo appeared beside the students in an instant, his expression uncharacteristically grim.
"Get back," he said, his voice low. "This one's mine."
The leader smirked. "Satoru Gojo. I've been waiting for this."
The two powerhouses squared off, the air around them crackling with energy. The students watched in awe and fear, knowing that the battle before them would shape the fate of their world.
