Evercrest Vampire Truth

Chapter 15: A new home, fresh start, new beginnings

Suzan awoke refreshed and slightly confused. Maybe confused was not the right word but she was completely perplexed as to why she was so over powered? Why did she remember things like some of the older ancients did as if it were knowledge lacing her blood?

She could actually understand why ancient vampires would be wary of someone like her but she had no idea why the liars would want her. To say that they were greedy was an immense understatement.

She was trying to relax her body because she knew that he could tell when she was tense. As soon as she felt him rollover and pull her to him she knew she had been too late.

He kissed her ear and then deeply inhaled and exhaled. "What has happened? Why are you so tense?"

What could she say? She decided to say nothing and merely press closer to him as if settling in.

He smiled into her neck his breath hot and she smiled in response but she knew he would not be satisfied with that. She decided to speak first and perhaps, fingers crossed, change the subject.

"I am going to try to have two of the whimmer wills as my familiars and take om one as soulmate. You don't think I'm being arrogant do you?"

He kissed her again and then pulled her into him for a tighter hug. But, in the end, he did not respond. He simply rolled over and took her with him.

Rachel finally extracted herself from Dylan and went to find the whimmer wills. They were with Ester looking out ahead of the caravan. Rachel followed their gaze and saw everyone's final destination.

Dylan's western territories were massive. They seemed to overflow with everything. There were rolling hills, lakes, large forests, fertile farm lands, beautiful meadows and grasslands, and an exquisite little town. But the focal point was a massive structure that spoke of wealth and opulence.

It was not a castle and not really a mansion either. It was an architectural phenomenon. There were balconies around the structure, walls of windows, not to mention it had six wings and four levels.

Suzan's eyes were drawn to it and once she saw it she could not look away. It stirred something in her and her soul immediately declared this home. Dylan was suddenly behind her, a smile on his lips and a hand gently placed on her lower back.

"What do you think?"

"I think I am home."

His smile broadened. "I am very glad to hear that. I really hope you love it here."

"Why wouldn't I? You are here."

His expression saddened a bit. "I brought you here to protect you but it could easily place you in greater danger. If the king is displeased when he hears of you he can make things difficult and you now may have the attention of others drawn to you because I have claimed you and put you under my protection.

"This may cause others to feel your value is high and something exploitable."

Suzan smiled. She turned and kissed him softly on his cheek. "You worry too much. I will train more, both in magics and physical combat. I will be as prepared as I can be. After that let them try to exploit me. They will need to work very hard for whatever they may earn, or learn."

She shrugged and briefly returned her gaze to that beautiful mansion. She exhaled and went to find the whimmer wills.

Her conversation with the whimmer wills was rather interesting. Once everything was decided it just was. She felt her soul stir as one became her soulmate and she felt two odd connections within her wells of magic that signified having familiars.

They were Li, Chi, and Uta. The two former were her familiar and the latter was her soulmatr. She could feel Uta doing something to her soul and her magic subtly flared. As it did Li and Chi both caused an odd barrier to instantly surround her like a thin film on her skin and her abilities and levels were thoroughly hidden.

Seconds ago she was wondering why she would need a familiar or soulmat. Now she wondered why she never obtained one before now.

Her grandmother looked at her with narrowed eyes. "Was that you?"

She shook her head lightly. "No ma'am that was the whimmer wills."

Patricia nodded. "I heard familiars were very useful but you know all of our texts on magic were destroyed so we never really know the full story or enough detail to learn. You will be our guide my precious granddaughter."

She paused.

"I say that with great excitement in my heart but please believe me when I say I do not want you to be stressed due to some perceived pressure to carry us along. This is your life and I want you to live it."

She inhaled deeply and looked to the small city surrounding Dylan's home.

"Bringing us this far is actually more than we could have ever asked for. You have already carried us far too much."

"You are my family. The mother to my one of my mothers and one of my fathers. How could I think of you as a burden. Life is difficult because it is life not because we help the ones we love."

"You have always been such a sweet child. Now to my grandmotherly duties.'

She took a deep breath and looked at her sternly.

"Remember you need to be married before you give me any great grand babies."

Suzan's eyes went wide and she instinctively looked around to see if anyone heard her grandmother or saw her own expression. She almost breathed a sigh of relief when she realized that her familiars had put up a barrier for privacy.

She remembered that many whimmer wills had divination abilities and she was again happy that she decided to follow her master's advice.

Her grandmother laughed loudly then she suddenly became very serious. She looked deeply into Suzan's eyes.

"We need to make sure that you are safe darlin. You are the salvation of our family. Because of you we will regain our status and we will be able to go to Masiria again and hold our heads high."

By this time Suzan was frowning deeply at her grandmother. She laughed at her granddaughter again.

She sighed.

"We destroyed so much of our history so that we could forget. We actually forgot to keep our babies informed."

Suzan looked to their new home.

"I am not worried about Masiria. I want to care for my family and for Evercrest."

She looked to the ground before her.

"What is it child."

"I guess I am worried about the true vampires. I mean they did kill.."

"I know baby. I know. But you will learn more things than you ever imagined here. You will be strong enough to handle them.
