Chapter 5: An awakened uncertainty
He knew he could not be the same way he used to be anymore, for he was no longer Zade in appearances, but Nova, a young man who came from a noble family, one among the high-ranking families within the city, something that he did not like, but there was nothing he could do about it.
However, just like he was Nova was the outcast within his family as well, the body's previous owner had a tough life, especially due to the fact, of being the bastard within their family, for he was the son of his father's mistress.
A blood, a mistake that they would not acknowledge nor accept, hence they treat him no different than a servant within their own household, where his step-siblings, all except one even looked down upon him.
At first, when he came into Nova's body, he could feel the struggles within him, it seemed as though from deep within he was begging for a way out, a way to be free of the turmoil he was feeling, despite trying so hard in life, to do everything, no matter what, none of them acknowledged him.
He was only treated as though he was a human scum behind the doors of their home and now the gods had finally answered his prayers, giving him what he wanted.
'This is my second chance, be it as Nova, I will accept it, for from the inside, I am still me' He thought as he placed his hand on the crystal ball.
The crystal ball did not react to him, causing his eyes to narrow and the others that were there began murmuring, wondering whether or not he would be able to awaken a talent or not and the officials from the order exchanged glances.
Nova was about to move his hand away from the ball when it began glowing brightly before his eyes, spiraling in black and white. Parts of it felt like a dark storm looming over him, while the other part felt as though it was light itself.
The people around him had gone quiet and the members from within the order were staring at him and the crystal ball with wide eyes as they approached him.
As Nova stood there, frozen from the turn of events, his mind racing to comprehend what was going on, his hand was still on the ball, he could feel one side of it was cold, while the other side of it was slightly was.
He could feel it in his bones that something was not right. For a brief moment, there was a duality there, light and darkness, something which was not a good sign. His eyes narrowed in confusion, for due to the body's previous owner's knowledge, he knew this was not normal. Hardly anyone awakens mixed talents.
Within a matter of seconds, the white light swirling beside the darkness within the crystal disappeared, as though it was never there.
The others around him did not seem to realize what was happening at the time either, hence giving him the title of what they thought he had awakened, due to what they had seen.
"Congratulations, Nova, you have awakened under the class of a necromancer, a mage of the dark arts," One of the older officials from within the order said, as he noticed a few strange looks from others within the crowd, but Nova paid them no mind.
"Thank you," He responded.
"You are welcome; however, you must be cautious, necromancy is not known to be a talent that's often seen these days, it was popular in the past, the dark times, hardly anyone awakens as one in this age and that is most likely due to the lack of will, weak mind, physical prowess, it has many reasons, you must be aware of what you do or you may find yourself lost in an abyss of no return, do you understand me, young man?" The man asked him.
"Yes, I understand, thank you for explaining, I will be sure to keep that in mind, for the sake of my future," He responded and the man nodded, pleased that Nova was listening to him.
"A necromancer?" Someone from the crowd asked and another nodded.
"We do not see much of them these days," Another added.
"Yeah, I have heard a few things about them, some are not so pleasant," A female among them said.
"True, they either turn evil or get to a certain level or they just quit entirely and go to live the life of a normal person," Another chimed in.
"I heard the same, these days there are few of them, let's hope he does not end up the same," A male from the other said.
Nova overheard everything that was just said among the ones waiting for their turns as he stepped off of the stage, but he said nothing, for they should have been more concerned about whether they would even awaken or not.
He went to another side of the building within the order, since they were all gathered in a cathedral, so that he could be alone to think about what had just happened, while those in line were both eager and nervous for their turns, not knowing what their futures held, a cloud of uncertainty looming over their heads.
Nova took a deep breath as he tried to process the implications of being awakened in such a class, one that was considered rare these days and he let out a loud sigh, as he remembered the mixed colours within the crystal ball, making an uneasy feeling began to rise up within him, he felt as though something was off.
Due to the knowledge, he had, both from his previous self and the current, he knew being a necromancer meant darkness, which made him curious about the light he had seen within the crystal ball and what it meant for his future, one that was now filled with uncertainty.
He pushed himself off of the wall and was about to leave to complete the process of every awakener due to their coming of age, when he felt a shockwave through his body and he froze in his spot.
[System Activated, welcome Nova.]
His eyes began glowing purple mixed with a red hue as a blue and red transparent screen appeared before his eyes.
