Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle
Chapter 83: Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle
The next day, Yang Potian and his father continued their search. However, luck wasn't on their side this time. While they did encounter several promising soul beasts, none matched the caliber of the Ironthorn Armored Dragon from the day before.
As night fell, Yang Zhentian remained especially vigilant, barely resting as he focused his spiritual power on their surroundings, prepared to respond to any unexpected dangers.
On the third day, the pair found themselves trekking through a dense forest when, from a distance, they heard a loud bear roar, quickly followed by a tiger's cry. The sounds suggested a fierce battle between a bear and a tiger.
Both sounds were impressive. The bear's roar, carrying intense soul power, was loud enough to leave their ears ringing—a sure sign of a soul beast far exceeding the ten-thousand-year mark, likely closer to thirty thousand years. The tiger's cry, on the other hand, exuded a regal aura, embodying the dominance of a king. Though its soul power didn't quite match the bear's, it held a unique, penetrating force that seemed capable of shattering defenses, making resistance nearly impossible.
"Father, these two beasts sound remarkable! Shouldn't we check it out?" Yang Potian asked.
Zhentian hesitated. "Potian, it's probably best not to get involved. Judging by their power, both beasts are likely beyond ten thousand years. That's too much for you to absorb at this stage."
Potian looked reluctant. "Can't we at least take a look? If it's too dangerous, we can always keep our distance."
Seeing his son's eagerness, Yang Zhentian realized how anxious Potian had grown over the last few days. With a sigh, he nodded and led Potian cautiously toward the source of the sounds.
Upon arriving near the battleground, the two were stunned by the scene before them.
A massive Golden Titan Bear stood roaring toward the sky, towering over twenty meters tall. By its size and strength, it appeared to be a soul beast of at least 40,000 years. Opposite it was a tiger with wings—its fur a sleek silver-gray, its body covered with a coat of thick, steel-like fur that gleamed under the light like forged metal. Its wings weren't feathered but adorned with metallic, silver-gray feathers that shone like polished iron.
Potian's eyes lit up in excitement as he whispered to his father, "Father, it's an Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle!"
Zhentian nodded solemnly. "Yes, that's an Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle. But it's over ten thousand years old."
He watched the battle intently, as both beasts clashed with incredible power. The Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle was remarkably formidable. Despite being only a ten-thousand-year beast, it was holding its ground against a 40,000-year-old Golden Titan Bear.
The Golden Titan Bear was a powerful soul beast, clad in thick scales that provided unparalleled defense and strength. At its level, few soul beasts could rival it. In Douluo Dalu, Shrek Academy's Zhao Wuji possessed a Golden Titan Bear spirit that allowed him to take on sixteen Soul Emperors simultaneously, proving its incredible power.
Yet the Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle showed no sign of weakness. Its power matched the bear's, and its wings gave it agility that allowed it to evade blows while launching precise, powerful attacks. Each dive and swipe of its claws left deep gashes on the bear's back, putting it at a disadvantage in the long run.
"Father, how old is this Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle? What's its age?" Potian asked eagerly.
They were observing from a safe distance, making it difficult for Potian to assess its exact age.
Zhentian estimated, "Judging by its size, it should be about twelve meters in length, with a wingspan reaching twenty meters. I'd say it's around 12,000 years old, but no more than 13,000."
Potian's eyes lit up. "Father, I want this Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle as my fourth soul ring!"
Zhentian frowned. "Are you sure, Potian? The fourth soul ring brings a mental impact with it, and just a few days ago, you couldn't even withstand the spiritual attack of a ten-thousand-year Silver Moon Fox. If you try to absorb this Tiger-Eagle, your spirit might collapse under the pressure. Even physically, while you could manage a ten-thousand-year beast, this is an extraordinary soul beast and likely beyond your limits."
"Father, just help me track it for a few more days. I'll be ready to absorb it then," Potian replied confidently.
Zhentian looked at his son with curiosity. How could he be so certain that his spirit and body would be strong enough in such a short time?
In the meantime, the battle between the two beasts was taking its toll on the landscape, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The Golden Titan Bear seemed close to defeat, retreating from the relentless Tiger-Eagle, which continued to press forward with a barrage of attacks.
Seeing Potian's determination, Zhentian decided to play along. "Very well," he said, "but let's play it safe and monitor the situation."
The Golden Titan Bear, clearly outmatched, began retreating deeper into the forest, leaving a cloud of dust in its wake. The Iron-Feathered Tiger-Eagle refused to let it go, swooping down in pursuit.
As the beasts moved along, Zhentian signaled Potian to hide before stealthily positioning himself on the path of the two soul beasts. Timing his approach, Zhentian waited for the Tiger-Eagle to swoop down, its focus fixed on the Golden Titan Bear.
In a flash, Zhentian summoned his Soul Breaker Spear, the eight soul rings encircling him as he activated his black soul ring. With precision, he aimed a devastating strike toward the Tiger-Eagle just as it dived for the bear.
The attack caught the Tiger-Eagle off guard. Focused entirely on the fleeing bear, it had no time to react to Zhentian's sudden assault. Despite its agility, the Tiger-Eagle barely twisted its body in time to avoid a lethal blow.
Yet even with its quick reaction, Zhentian's strike still landed hard, piercing the Tiger-Eagle's left shoulder and creating a deep, bloody wound. Injured, the Tiger-Eagle let out a pained roar, beating its wings to gain altitude as it fled.
Despite his high-level abilities, Zhentian knew he couldn't match the speed of this rare flying beast. And since his goal was only to track it, he let the wounded Tiger-Eagle escape.
Without giving chase, he turned back, gathering Potian before leading him away from the area to avoid attracting the attention of the nearby 40,000-year-old Golden Titan Bear.
