Chapter 6: Datura Snake

In dormitory seven everybody were sleeping, except for one kid. Tang san was getting ready to get a spirit ring. He had no knowledge about spirit rings, so he thought it would be a good experience.

He waited for an hour, but Chao was still sleeping. He got impatient and tried to wake him up. He tried whispering, which was useless, so Tang San moved on to talking loudly. It seemed to work at first, but it wasn't enough. Finally he decided to shake him awake.

Chao woke up feeling the morning breeze from a nearby open window. Even the sun wasn't fully out yet. He got up lazily and got ready for their journey to the soul hunting forest. Tang San waited patiently for Chao, who was taking his sweet time getting ready.

They got to The gate of the Academy, where Chief Lang was waiting. Chao went closer to the Chief and introduced Tang San to him. "Chief, this is the kid from yesterday. He was born with Innate full soul power. Since we are going to get me a spirit ring, maybe we could help him get one too."

Chief Lang glanced at Tang San, who was looking at him with puppy eyes. Chief Lang sighed, but still agreed. They turned around and went towards the soul hunting forest. On the way, Chief Lang got to know Tang San.

Tang San was likable to everyone as long as they didn't get in his way, and Chief Lang wasn't any different. Chao had a theory that Tang San was blessed by the world. Anybody would have a favourable opinion of him when meeting him.

This didn't mean that people with a past grudge would suddenly love him. It was more like him having some kind of charm. This theory only had one problem. Chao didn't have any grudge or hate Towards Tang San, but somehow he still felt uncomfortable around him.

It might be because he knew about Tang San's past. Or maybe because he was a Traverser, so he was immune. It didn't matter that much, but Chao still had to be careful of Tang San's weird Charm.

The Soul hunting forest wasn't that far. It only took them about an hour to get there. The place didn't look like a hunting ground whatsoever, it looked more like a flee market. A bunch of people were arguing and yelling for support.

Chief Lang didn't pay attention to anyone, and kept walking towards the entrance. Some people tried recruiting them, but the kids followed Chief Lang's example and Ignored them.

They reached the entrance, which was basically a giant stone wall with a gate.

The place was filled with armored guards. They looked like medieval knights with spears.

Before getting closer, the Chief started explaining the rules to them. "Listen up! After we go in, you will have to listen to my every word. If you can't do that, I won't take you with me. Everyone and everything in that forest is lawless, imagine that even the wind wants to kill you in there. I need you guys to promise me that you will do as I say."

Tang San nodded, but Chao was a little anxious. After getting Tang San his soul ring, there was a Chance his System would give him a reward. Right now, Chao was getting rid of a major scene from the show.

In this forest, Tang San is supposed to see the self sacrifice of his Master, which would bind him for the rest of his life. Chao had to admit that the Master cared about Tang San, but he still had bad opinion of him.

If this scene didn't happen, Tang Hao, Tang san's father, might not trust the Master. And Tang San might never fully trust the Master either. It would bring big changes to the story, or at least chao hoped it would.

They walked around for a whole day, but they didn't really find anything good. They saw a bunch of spirit beasts, but most of them weren't even a century old.

After a while, they decided to rest for the night. Chief Lend was going to stay awake while Chao and Tang San were resting. Both of them fell asleep quickly, but Tang San was woken up by howls.

Tang San was a trained hitman, even the bushes moving around him was enough to wake him up, not to mention a howl. He jumped up and got ready for a fight. He looked around and found Chief Leng just sitting there, unfazed.

Tang San activated the Purple Demon Eye to look further into the dark Forest. He saw a bunch of Wolf looking Creatures who were surrounding them. He quickly got close to Chief Leng to explain the Situation to him.

"A bunch of wolves are around us, it looks like they want us as their next meal. You should get ready for a fight." Chief Leng looked at Tang San with amazement in his eyes. He was truly suprised by Tang San's instincts.

It was unbelievable to him that Tang San had such a good situational awareness. He was happy for Tang San, but when he looked over his shoulder, he saw Chao lying down, sleeping comfortably.

Chief Leng chuckled, Activating his martial spirit and spooking the wolves who ran like their lives depended on it. Tang San looked around to only see a snake staring right into his soul.

This snake was bigger then anything Tang San had ever seen. He got ready to fight when he felt a gentle arm on his shoulder.

"Go wake Chao up, tell him we found him his soul ring."

He didn't give Tang San any time to respond and disappeared. Tang San ran towards Chao and started yelling and shaking him. He quickly explained the situation to Chao who was completely out of it.

Chao could hear a fight going on ahead. They quickly rushed towards the noise to see the snake getting injured everywhere. Chao was able to tell that this spirit beast was the Datura Snake, which was originally Tang San's spirit ring.

Chao tried his best, yet he still couldn't see Chief Leng. All he could see was bunch of cuts appearing around the Snake's body. Even after a few dozen of cuts, the snake wasn't dying, the vitality of this snake was way too strong.

The snake couldn't handle this barrage of cuts, and started slowing down, struggling to move. Chief Leng appeared close to Chao and told him to kill the snake. Chao knew this was, originaly, Tang San's spirit ring. You could even say it was his fated spirit ring.

Chao wasn't sure if they would be able to find anything better for Tang San, so he gave him the knife. "Listen up. Go and kill that snake, I think it might work out great for you."

Tang San, as the trained killer he is, wasn't phased. He dashed towards the snake which in turn hissed at him. The snake was being suppressed by Chief Leng, so it wasn't able to react to Tang San dashing in and stabbing him in the eye. The snake flapped around in desperation for a few seconds before falling over.

A yellow ring rose from the Datura Snake's body.

Chief Leng appeared, clearly annoyed. "Why didn't you kill it? Even if you are scared. You know that you can only absorb soul rings from the soul beasts that you killed. Do you understand that you wasted a top tier Century old ring?"

This was the first time Chao saw Chief Leng mad. He was always so calm and collected.

"I think this snake is not compatible for my martial spirit. Tang San should absorb it."

Chief Leng calmed down to explain to Chao. "Plant martial spirits can't absorb soul beasts that aren't plants, it's just the way it is." Chief Leng was clearly disappointed.

Chao looked at him confused and asked a simple question. "If plant martial spirits can only absorb plant soul beasts, how do hammers or swords absorb soul beasts? That logic makes no sense."

Chief Leng looked to be questioning his whole world. "Maybe you are right, but that doesn't mean we should test this theory on your friend. What if he gets injured? Or what if he dies? Don't forget he has Innate full soul power. I can't ruin his bright future."

Chao and Chief Leng went back and fourth when they finally decided to ask Tang San for his opinion. "We are not going to force you to do anything you don't want to, but I can promise you, in my experience this soul ring is the best of the best for your first ring."

Tang San was clearly puzzled. He knew that this might be a once in a life time opportunity, but it also had it's drawbacks. One mistake, and his life would be over. He carefully considered his options, and decided he would try.

Chief Leng explained how to absorb the soul ring quickly, and Tang San started. He guided the soul ring towards his body. The moment the soul ring surrounded his body, Chao heard the familiar voice of the System in his mind.

'The story has been changed. Reward: The perfect soul beast for your first soul ring will chase you until it kills you. Good luck!'

Deep inside the forest, a ten meter long green snake was eating a man faced Demon spider. A purple light appeared around him, and it's dark eyes turned purple. It stopped eating and rushed towards the group.
