Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 19: Chapter 18: Going To Nobita's House As A Guest【Part 2】

Because the homework had not been completed yet, Dekisugi and Shizuka simply laid down on the side to finish their assignments, but they didn't chat with Nobita and Doraemon. The sound of pencils scratching on paper filled the room as the two worked quietly.

The plot in the manga caught their attention.

Although Dekisugi found it uninteresting, he acknowledged that, in terms of its genre, it was still a solid manga of this era. After yesterday's analysis, Dekisugi could see clearly that the author of The Mask of the Lion King was nearing a creative bottleneck. The story had lost some of its initial charm, and the author seemed to be relying on repetitive tropes.

"Look, Doraemon! The Lion Mask is about to begin a full investigation into the Dark Legion's base! As expected, The Lion Mask is truly amazing!" Dekisugi said, his voice tinged with excitement, pointing to the comic in his hands.

Doraemon, also watching the manga, was equally thrilled. He hadn't been able to enjoy a good manga in a while and was completely absorbed in it.

The two of them had wanted to read the latest issue of The Lion Mask for so long, but unfortunately, they never had enough pocket money to buy it. In their eyes, the comic was more of a treasure than a mere story.

Compared to Nobita's constant score of zero on every test…

It really was fortunate to have pocket money.

"Shizuka, let's finish our homework first, and then we can help Nobita with his later," Dekisugi said, still focused on the manga, forgetting that they were guests in the house. He had become so engrossed that he had stopped paying attention to the others in the room. Finally, he looked over at Shizuka and decided it was best to focus on their homework first.

The math problems in the fourth-grade homework were really easy. They were nothing more than simple arithmetic questions, and for Dekisugi, they barely required any thought.

"What's half of 4x?" was a basic IQ question that didn't even require much concentration to solve. It was knowledge equivalent to fifth or sixth grade.

Shizuka, always diligent but a bit slow when it came to math, came across an extra question in her homework that made her pause. She turned to Dekisugi for help.

"Dekisugi, this question is so hard! Can you help me?" Shizuka asked, her brow furrowed in confusion as she stared at the page.

Dekisugi smiled at her, not at all bothered by the simplicity of the task. He had no trouble solving it in a matter of seconds. However, out of politeness and care for his friend, he explained the solution thoroughly.

"It's really simple," he said, demonstrating with a few quick steps. "You just have to divide 4x by 2. So, the answer is 2x."

Shizuka nodded, understanding the concept now. Even though the math was basic, it took Dekisugi nearly half an hour to help Shizuka complete the entire set of questions. He didn't mind, though. He liked helping people, especially Shizuka.

After all, school ended at three o'clock every day, so how could there be no homework?

It took Dekisugi almost half an hour to finish his own homework, and then he helped Shizuka finish a few difficult math problems.

Meanwhile, Nobita and Doraemon, who had been sitting next to each other for a while, finally reached the last page of their comic. Their eyes were wide with excitement.

"Wow! I've found the secret base of the Dark Legion! Amazing! Lion Mask—oh, it's over!" Nobita exclaimed, slumping back in his seat. He stretched his arms, clearly satisfied with the issue but disappointed it was over.

It was then that he suddenly realized the presence of the two people sitting beside him. He turned quickly and froze.

"Yikes!" Nobita exclaimed in a startled tone. He had been so absorbed in the manga that he completely forgot about his two guests.

Dekisugi smiled at him. "Nobita, do you want to do your homework? Shizuka and I are here to help you," he said, remembering his childhood.

He used to be the same—always avoiding homework. He couldn't help but smile at how Nobita had fallen into the same trap he had when he was younger.

Naturally, Nobita couldn't refuse.

It was a rare opportunity to be with Shizuka, and despite Dekisugi's presence, he didn't mind too much. Even though Dekisugi was like a bright, shining light bulb always illuminating the situation, Nobita enjoyed being around Shizuka.

As they began chatting while doing homework, Nobita's mother entered the room with snacks and drinks for Dekisugi and Shizuka. She noticed the three of them hard at work, a small smile forming on her lips. She had never imagined that Nobita would take the initiative to do his homework.

She paused, watching for a moment. Then she turned and went back downstairs, sighing to herself. It was truly effective to have friends with good academic performance. Nobita was doing homework for the first time on his own, all thanks to Shizuka's influence.

Nobita had always avoided doing his homework, but now, his desire to impress Shizuka made him work.

Although Doraemon had been a part of Nobita's life for as long as he could remember, there was a lingering sense of detachment. Dekisugi understood this better than anyone. His friendship with Shizuka had helped him form a strong bond with her, which made him a little jealous of Nobita and Doraemon's relationship.

Meanwhile, Shizuka helped Nobita finish the rest of his homework, and Dekisugi couldn't help but look at Doraemon, who was watching them from the side. There was something captivating about the robot cat that Dekisugi hadn't been able to shake off since childhood.

"What's up, Dekisugi? Why are you staring at me?" Doraemon asked with a forced smile, feeling slightly uncomfortable under Dekisugi's gaze.

"Oh, me?" Dekisugi blinked, suddenly aware that he had been staring. He quickly straightened up and brushed his hair with his index finger.

Though Dekisugi had seen Doraemon in a hurry before, he had never really paid much attention to him. But today, something about Doraemon's presence seemed to intrigue him. He had always admired how Doraemon had been there for Nobita through thick and thin.

"I'm just curious about Doraemon," Dekisugi said, his tone sincere. "I'm also a little envious of Nobita for having Doraemon with him all the time."

"Really? It's not a big deal, but Nobita really can't live without me," Doraemon said with a grin, though his words were tinged with a little frustration.

"Dekisugi, you think too highly of Doraemon. His gadgets are useless in critical situations," Nobita quickly added, shrugging.

"Maybe it's because you two spend so much time together," Dekisugi said. "You don't realize how valuable your friendship is."

Nobita and Doraemon had always bickered, but it was clear that their bond was something special.

As Nobita's homework was finished with Shizuka's help, Dekisugi decided to bring up something to talk about before the conversation became awkward.

"By the way, I plan to draw a manga and submit it to a publisher soon. I think Nobita and Doraemon will like it, and maybe Shizuka too," Dekisugi said, his voice bright with excitement.

The children stared at him, wide-eyed. "Really?!" they all exclaimed in unison, amazed that Dekisugi, of all people, planned to draw manga seriously.
