Chapter 16: Chapter 15: sketching class (part4)
"Tch, it's just a picture, so what?!" Nobita glared at Jaian and Suneo, who surrounded him, and Shizuka's admiring gaze at Dekisugi sparked his jealousy. After all, Shizuka excelled at everything compared to him. Of course, there were times when Shizuka found Nobita annoying as well.
Dekisugi and the others looked at Nobita's exaggerated contempt in confusion, wondering what kind of nerve Nobita had to act like this. Suneo, standing beside him, immediately sneered and exposed Nobita without hesitation.
"Hehe, I got it! Is Nobita jealous of Dekisugi's drawings? I bet he is! Nobita probably won't be able to draw anything close to what Dekisugi can in his entire life!" Suneo teased, answering his own question. Jaian, naturally playing along, stood next to him and laughed. The two had perfected their act of ganging up on Nobita over time, knowing exactly how to make him angrier.
Although Shizuka was a bit irritated by Nobita's dismissive tone, she couldn't stand by and let Jaian and Suneo keep laughing at him. She quickly intervened.
"Hey! Jaian, Suneo! That's enough from you two. Stop it!" Shizuka hurriedly stepped in front of Nobita because, based on her experience, if she didn't, Nobita would start spouting more nonsense.
Dekisugi, meanwhile, remained calm, understanding that this was nothing more than childish jealousy. He quickly suggested, "How about this: I'll draw a manga for you with cool armor, weapons, and capes. What do you say?"
Dekisugi, always level-headed, tried to shift the focus to something fun. His cheerful tone reflected the ease with which he had adapted to interacting with Nobita and the others. Over time, he'd even picked up some of their childish habits—something he didn't entirely notice himself.
Nobita, distracted from his jealousy, eagerly stood beside Jaian and Suneo on the lawn near Dekisugi. The idea of being drawn in armor, wielding a weapon, and wearing a cape was simply too appealing to resist.
Turning to Shizuka, Dekisugi asked, "Shizuka? Why don't you join them? I'll draw you too. Don't be shy."
"Huh? Me too? That's amazing! Thank you, Dekisugi~" Shizuka replied happily, joining Nobita and the others. With everyone in position, Dekisugi began sketching.
Having watched all the "Doraemon" movies in his previous life, Dekisugi used the imagery of fantasy swordsmen for inspiration. His drawings were solid, thanks to his foundational skills in manga. First, he drew Nobita as the Silver Swordsman, complete with gleaming silver armor, a shining sword, and a bright silver cape. Nobita, who often appeared dull, looked remarkably handsome in this depiction.
Next was Jaian. Instead of a sword, Dekisugi gave him two large axes, emphasizing his strength. To balance his youthful face, Dekisugi added more ruggedness to Jaian's expression.
For Suneo, Dekisugi transformed his usual sly grin into a serious, battle-hardened look. He drew him wearing armor that seemed to have seen countless battles.
Shizuka, meanwhile, was drawn as a noble and beautiful princess. Dekisugi depicted himself as a knight commander, kneeling behind her in a pose of solemn protection.
"The drawing's done! What do you think?" Dekisugi said, smiling as he tore the finished page from his sketchpad and handed it to the eagerly awaiting Jaian, Suneo, and Nobita. Shizuka also leaned in excitedly to see.
"Wow! I look so strong and mighty! Dekisugi, you're my true best friend. These axes are awesome! But... why did you make Nobita so shiny?" Jaian complained, eyeing Nobita's silver armor with a sour expression.
"Well, I didn't expect myself to look this good—hey! But Dekisugi, you've overestimated Nobita. He's only good enough to be our servant," Suneo chimed in, looking at Nobita with disdain.
Shizuka, however, didn't say much. Her happiness was evident, especially when she saw Dekisugi depict himself as her knight commander.
"Hey! How can you say that about me? I'm clearly the most handsome! Dekisugi has the best taste. And Shizuka's princess outfit is stunning! Jaian and Suneo are just accessories at best!" Nobita retorted, ignoring the fact that Dekisugi had drawn himself guarding Shizuka.
Despite being frequently bullied by Jaian and Suneo, Nobita's defiance was unshakable—even if it meant getting beaten up later.
As the day wore on, the teacher clapped her hands to gather everyone's attention.
"Alright, class is about to end. Everyone, head back to the classroom. Don't forget to submit your homework to the monitor! Dekisugi, could you collect the homework and bring it to my office?"
"Of course," Dekisugi replied politely. With that, the sketching class ended, and everyone returned to the classroom. Dekisugi dutifully collected the homework before heading home.
After lunch, the teacher graded the assignments, preparing them for the next day. Everything seemed routine until...
"Nobita! Stop right there!! You dared to say you're more handsome than me? I'll teach you a lesson!" Jaian roared, furious at Nobita's earlier boasts. After school, he chased Nobita around, but catching him proved difficult. Although Nobita wasn't physically strong, he was exceptionally skilled at running away.
