Chapter 3: KARMA
Kakashi found himself standing by a river, the entire place was foggy. He saw a figure standing where he suspected to be the other side, facing away from him. His curiosity took over him as he tried to cross the river which didn't look too deep when the figure turned to face and he suddenly recognized her.
"Mom?" Kakashi called out and attempted to swim to the other side. "I'm coming; wait for me."
"Don't come here!" Her voice was filled with disgust. "Stay back; don't come any closer."
"Mom, what's wrong?! It's your son! It's Kakashi!"
"You are not my son!!" Kakashi's eyes widened from shock, as he stood still without moving; his body had frozen all of a sudden. "No son of mine will live and forget about his sister. Where is your sister, Kakashi? Where is Tokah?"
That was the first time his mother had ever yelled at him, she was usually sweet and caring.
"I don't know where she is! I tried to save you and I abandoned her." Kakashi's voice was getting lower.
"Stop giving me excuses and find your sister. You are not my son until you find your sister."
Kakashi felt his chest getting heavier as he struggled to control his breathing, his eyes became watery.
"I promise, I WILL FIND TOKAH and I'll avenge your death"
"Big brother, are you looking for ??. I hope I'm not in trouble"
Kakashi quickly turned around upon recognizing his little sister's voice.
"Tokah!, You got me worried. Where have you been?"
The little girl looked like an eight-year-old, she was wearing a tattered, dirty white gown and her long, rough white hair was covering her face.
She didn't answer.
"Were you out playing in the dirt again? Remember what Mom said? You're a girl, so act like one."
"I was waiting for you to come back, just like you've promised."
Kakashi's eyes widened from shock. All of a sudden, she started running the other way from where their mother was.
Kakashi ran after her desperately, he needed to bring her back to his mother, or else his mother would never accept him.
"Tokah!, please come back!. You're going the other way!" Kakashi yelled after her but she didn't stop, she just kept on running, maintaining a good distance from him.
"TOKAH!!!" Kakashi yelled as suddenly woke up from his dream.
He was breathing heavily, trying to calm himself down.
[Thank goodness, it was just a dream. But, it looks almost real, is Mom trying to push me to find my sister?]
"Why are crying?" Mira asked with a worried look on her face. She was still standing beside the bed, but Miss Tokoyami was nowhere to be found.
Kakashi used his hand and touched the tears on his cheek.
"I... Was crying." Kakashi said, sounding a little bit surprised.
"You were also saying a bunch of weird stuff too." She brought out a handkerchief from her pocket wiped Kakashi's tears, and put it back in her pocket. "You should come with us, the doctor said you're free to leave."
"Where are we going?
"You wanted to see your friend, right? Let's get going then. Oh-" Mira said and handed him a leather bag. "You should change into this"
Kakashi nodded collected the bag, and stood there looking at Mira.
"Oh, sorry!" She turned her back to Kakashi.
He quickly changed into black jeans and a red T-shirt.
"Okay, let's go," Kakashi announced.
"I almost forgot to ask you your name."
"It's Kakashi."
"Alright, Kakashi." Mira held his arm with a smile on her face. "Let's go!"
She suddenly pulled Kakashi as she ran into the elevator and headed to the fifth floor.
Throughout the ride, Kakashi was restless. He couldn't stop thinking about what might have happened to Megumin, and what Mira had earlier said made his anxiety worsen. Megumin was the only friend he had left, if anything happened to her, then, all their sacrifice would be for nothing.
They arrived at the fifth floor and headed down the hallway, almost at the end they saw Miss Tokoyami standing, she was watching the patient through the glass.
The glass provided them with a view of the inside. There were two beds in the room that were kept on each end of the room with Megumin on the first bed and a girl in the next bed.
"What is going to happen to her?" Kakashi asked.
"Thankfully, the operation was successful. We found some devices in her body but luckily, her karma flow is still stable, but, she is still in danger."
"What do you mean by that?" Kakashi asked.
"She is going to be revitalized if she doesn't show any signs of improvement." Miss Tokoyami replied.
"Please, can I go and see her?"
"She just came back from the operation; I think you should let her rest," Mira said.
Without listening, Kakashi ran into the room. He slowly walked to where Megumin was kept, her hair had been completely shaved with some stitches on her head, abdomen and leg, and her hand had also been healed. She didn't look too bad to Kakashi, but he didn't know how to sense Karma so he couldn't tell that much.
"The revitalization, what is that?" Kakashi asked as he walked out of the room.
"It's a machine that would restore her karma but suck in natural karma transferring it into her body," Mira explained. "It's mostly used when there isn't someone with the same karma nature to do the transfer or the person's karma is too low to be completely restored through a transfer."
"But how is that possible, she couldn't use any technique," Kakashi asked.
Miss Tokoyami signaled Mira to excuse them and she sat on the bench in the hallway, just opposite the room.
"Please, sit." She ordered. Kakashi sat beside her. "When Supernaturals use their power, they use a special energy called karma. Karma is an energy that exists in every living thing but has a different nature and type. Everything depends on this energy to stay alive. So, what do you think will happen if you use too much of this energy?"
"Umm, I guess they won't be able to stay alive" Kakashi awkwardly said.
"Supernaturals utilize this energy to create different types of techniques, which drain the karma energy. If they attempt to keep using it even after being low on it, their life will be slowly drained as well."
"Wait! I don't understand. Is she going to die?"
"No, but your friend is in this state because she used too much karma." Miss Tokoyami paused. "It's not a surprise; most of the people we were able to rescue at research labs end up getting drained of karma, and most of them end up dead. It's a miracle to see that you're still brimming with karma."
"But when we were at the lab, they mentioned something about creating experimental. Do you know what that is?"
"Well, for starters, supernaturals can absorb karma from the air. This natural karma is used when they create techniques," Miss Tokoyami said, trying to find the best way possible to break it down for Kakashi. "By using techniques, we drain the karma energy, but imagine if there was a way to use techniques without using karma. There are already some people like that, but they are rare."
"But that is suppose impossible!"
