Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Carelessness

High-caliber sniper rifles paired with specialized armor-piercing rounds... when used in a city, the chances of collateral damage to civilians were extremely high.

However, Kingpin clearly wasn't the type to care about such things. By sheer coincidence, he had stumbled upon a plan that could actually injure Russell.

If an ordinary person were hit by such a high-caliber sniper rifle, at least half of their body would be blown apart.

Even Russell, if struck by these sniper rounds, would suffer significant injuries.

He didn't hear the gunshots, but his body told him the truth, he had been hit nine times.

As for the bait sniper in front of him, his situation was even worse. Only his lower half remained; his upper body had been reduced to chunks by the bullets.

Several of the shots had come from behind the bait sniper, so after passing through his body, they struck Russell.

When the gunfire erupted, Russell collapsed, falling into a pool of blood.

"I was careless..."

If it weren't for his enhanced body and the presence of the 'Dionesium Factor', Russell wouldn't be in much better shape than the bait sniper, who was now missing his upper half.

Even so, he had sustained serious injuries.

Fortunately, none of the nine shots had been aimed at his head, or he would have become a "headless corpse" by now.

The 'Dionesium Factor' began rapidly repairing Russell's injuries, but he was lost in deep thought...

The main reason he had ended up in this situation was his carelessness and overconfidence.

If he had used his super vision to scan the area before acting, the outcome would have been completely different.

But he hadn't...

He knew Kingpin would take action. He had noticed the unusual quiet in Hell's Kitchen and the sniper attacking them. He had dealt with the sniper immediately.

Strictly speaking, he hadn't actually dealt with the sniper... he hadn't even had the chance to act.

Looking back now, the deliberate anomalies on the streets and the sniper who had intentionally used a laser sight to target him were all part of Kingpin's plan.

Even Russell's decision to personally take out the sniper had been anticipated by Kingpin.

The trap wasn't particularly clever. If Russell had taken it seriously, it wouldn't have worked at all.

"I can't afford to be this careless again..."

During his fight with the mutated Jack, Russell hadn't even needed to use the 'Dionesium Factor'. So, the fact that he had to rely on it now felt like a personal failure.

Once his injuries had healed, Russell didn't immediately get up or rush to deal with the nine remaining snipers.

Even lying flat on the rooftop, his super vision allowed him to easily pinpoint the snipers' locations through telescopic and X-ray vision.

Russell raised his hands slightly, then clenched them into fists and slammed them into the floor.

*Boom!* *Boom!*

After two heavy strikes, the floor beneath him shattered, and he fell through under the force of gravity.

After landing in what appeared to be someone's home, Russell slowly got up and made his way to the bathroom.

His body was now covered in blood.

Most of it belonged to the bait sniper, but some was his own.

He removed his blood-soaked jacket and washed the blood off his face, hands, and neck. Only then did he leave the apartment.

Before leaving however, he made a mental note of the apartment's address, intending to compensate the residents for the damage later.

He had destroyed their ceiling, left behind a blood-soaked jacket, and a half-corpse.

For an ordinary person, this would be an incredibly traumatic experience, the kind of thing that could haunt their nightmares for a year.

Realizing this, Russell, who had been about to take the elevator, turned back and re-entered the apartment.

To get back in, he had to break down the door.

<...Warning: There's a gruesome scene inside. Please call the police and let them handle it...>

While searching for paper and a pen, Russell discovered that the apartment belonged to a young woman living alone. That's why he suddenly added the suggestion to move.

<...Someone will compensate you for all damages. Lastly, I recommend moving out of Hell's Kitchen, it's not safe here!>

Russell didn't know if his note would have any effect... Still, it was a warning at least.

As for compensating for the damages, he wasn't just making empty promises. He fully intended to follow through.

After sticking the note on the now-broken door, Russell finally left.

To avoid being spotted again, he avoided the main roads and instead navigated through the maze of alleys that crisscrossed the neighborhood, eventually returning to the spot where they had first been ambushed.

When Russell arrived, the first thing he saw was the row of soldiers sitting against the wall.

The car explosion hadn't killed them, but it had left them with serious injuries; broken bones, concussions, and the like.

The only person still capable of fighting, aside from him, was Allen.

"Did you take care of it?" Allen asked as soon as Russell returned.

"No, I walked into an ambush. That sniper was a trap."

Russell spoke casually, but Allen knew things weren't as simple as he made them sound.

The missing jacket, Russell's damp hair, and the bloodstains on his pants were enough to prove that his experience had been far from easy.

Russell approached the injured soldiers and asked about their condition, "Can you all still defend yourselves?"

"We can defend ourselves, sir! But we probably won't be much help to you..."

In military operations, recklessness wasn't a virtue.

One person's recklessness could sometimes lead to the death of the entire team.

So, if anyone was injured, they would speak up immediately to avoid jeopardizing their teammates' safety.

"You don't need to participate. Just focus on defending yourselves. Allen and I will handle the rest."

After addressing the injured soldiers, he approached Allen and explained his plan.

Before sharing his plan, Russell used his super vision again to confirm the locations of the nine remaining snipers.

Perhaps because they hadn't confirmed Russell's death, the snipers hadn't left their positions.

Of course, this could also be Kingpin's orders.

Russell's next move was to team up with Allen and take out these nine hidden snipers, one by one...

After informing Allen of the snipers' locations, the two set off.

The earlier recklessness had left a deep impression on Russell. This time, he needed to be a little more cautious, a little more serious, and a little more ruthless...
