Danmachi: The Hunter

Chapter 2: Loki Familia 2

Kelvin's words made them silent. They were clearly dissatisfied with Kelvin's answer.

Even though what Kelvin said wasn't wrong, it wasn't what they wanted to hear.

Loki's lips twitched as he suppressed his irritation, "Listen, kid. Let me change my question. Once you get the 'power' you want, what will you do next? I don't want to hear the answer 'become stronger again'. So, what's your answer?"

"Hmm, quite troublesome." Kelvin muttered softly. He lowered his head while holding his chin, making a thoughtful expression for a moment before finally looking up and saying, "If that's the case, perhaps my goal has already been achieved, and I don't have anything in particular that I want."

"Is that all?" Loki blinked, slightly surprised by Kelvin's answer.

"Yes." Kelvin nodded, "From the start my goal of becoming strong wasn't complicated—I wanted to protect everyone I care about—if I didn't have enough strength, I would never be able to do that."

From the moment he woke up in this world, Kelvin knew that he had to be strong. What's more, with everything he experienced last time, it was enough for him to decide to become the strongest.

He didn't want to feel helpless. He wants to be able to protect the people he loves.

Rule the World?

Becoming Famous?

He wasn't interested in any of that!

All he wanted was for him to be able to protect his loved ones from harm.

What's more, since—

"Okay! You will be my son from now on!" Loki suddenly exclaimed, making Kelvin and the others naturally look at him.

"Oh, come on. Your personality isn't that bad. I thought you wanted to be the strongest so you could rule the world." Loki said while shrugging his shoulders with an indifferent expression on his face.

He then continued, "Moreover, your goal of becoming strong fits perfectly with our Familia! I'm sure you will definitely become the backbone of this Familia one day."

Another reason why Loki easily accepted Kelvin was of course because he did not detect any lies in Kelvin's words. Which means, Kelvin's desire to protect the people he loves is the truth.

"Is it true?" Kelvin asked, slightly surprised by Loki's agreement.

"Of course!" Loki nodded enthusiastically, he then looked towards the other three executives and asked, "What do you guys think? Does anyone have any objections?"

"It can't be helped, I don't mind." Finn nodded, looking like he didn't mind Kelvin joining their Familia.

"Gahaha, if Loki agrees, I don't mind." Gareth nodded while laughing.

"After all, I was the one who recommended it." Riveria nodded.

"Alright, it's decided. Welcome to our Familia, kid. For starters, quickly take off your clothes!"

"...." Kelvin was silent.

He looked at Loki with a doubtful look.

".... Um, is this some kind of ritual?"

"Just quickly take off your clothes!" Loki said as he placed his hands on her hips.

"Wait...! I was never told this! At least let me prepare myself first!"

Kelvin, who was sitting in front of Loki, took a little distance and shifted his body to the side.

On the other hand, Riveria and the others made "as expected" expressions on their faces.

"Just take off your top, Loki will carve the Falna into your back." Riveria said with a sigh.

"Oh? Just the boss ...? Then it can't be helped."

Following Riveria's instructions, Kelvin took off his shirt, leaving him half naked with only his trousers remaining.

When he showed his body, Loki exclaimed a little when he looked at his body which, although thin, had well-trained muscles.

"Oh, I thought you were a skinny kid who didn't eat enough. But your body seems to be well trained!"

"That's rude! Despite this, I'm also handsome enough to attract the attention of many girls!"

"Yeah, yeah, just show me your back and let me give you my Falna."

"Wait, before that we will go out first." Finn said suddenly.

"Hmm? Don't you want to see the results? Though, it's no problem if you want to see." Loki glanced at Finn, a little confused by his decision.

For him, Finn and the other two had a strong reason to look at Kelvin's status, considering that the three of them were executives, in which case they had some authority to look at the status of the other members to a certain extent.

"No, it would be better for us to respect privacy. Besides, we can't see everything as we please." Finn said while shaking his head.

Even though they knew it was their right to be able to see the status of other members, Finn decided not to do that.

Not for no reason, but considering that Riveria was the one who brought Kelvin here, it was clear that Kelvin was not a simple teenager in his mind.

According to Finn, Kelvin should have a secret or two, and it would be unethical for them to reveal those secrets without his consent.

"Okay, it's up to you."

Loki didn't think much and let them go. Anyway, sooner or later everyone will know Kelvin's strength, so he doesn't think it will change much.

While the three executives left the room, Kelvin immediately lay down on the sofa, showing his back up while Loki sat on top of him—his back to be precise.

Loki took out a needle and pricked his own finger, making blood drip down Kelvin's back.

And when Loki's blood touched his back Kelvin could feel something entering his body. He didn't refuse and let it go because he knew that the process had already started at this time.

Kelvin could feel his body becoming stronger, which made him feel a little strange.

"Okay, that's done. Let me show you your status first."

While saying that, Loki took out a sheet of paper, placing it over Kelvin's back as it glowed as he did so.

Loki got up from Kelvin's back, and gave the paper to Kelvin.

"Hmm?"

Kelvin looked at the parchment curiously. Of course, he could see all the numbers and writing on it. It is just ....

"What is written here?" Kelvin asked while looking at Loki curiously.

"..." Loki paused, ".... I forgot that not all humans can read hieroglyphs."

Correct. Not all humans can read the language of the Gods—hieroglyphs. So, it was natural that Kelvin didn't understand what was written on the parchment.

Because he was too excited, Loki had neglected this before.

"Ahem!" Loki coughed slightly, before then looking at Kelvin with a smile, "Then let me read it to you!"

He got so excited. Naturally, this was the first time he saw a human being able to gain three Skills and one Magic when obtaining Falna. Moreover, one Skill does not have a clear name, or may still not be perfect.

This is a special case that has never happened before. And of course Loki was curious about this skill.

It's just that, because the Skill hasn't been opened yet, the name and description of the Skill are also unclear.

But no problem!

Loki felt happy because he didn't reject Kelvin joining his Familia. If he had refused, he wouldn't have known there was something so interesting about Kelvin.

When Loki read one by one what was written on the parchment, Kelvin nodded and watched silently.

As far as he knew, when he was in this world before, he had awakened one Magic in particular. It's just that, at that time he was unconscious, and he didn't know what magic he awakened at that time.

Moreover, since then he couldn't use his magic anymore.

And not only did he read out Kelvin's status written on the parchment, Loki also slowly explained what the functions of the status were.

"First of all-"

—Level indicates a person's level. This was the most important part of the status of being someone who was superior to everyone at a lower level in all aspects.

However, there are exceptions; some abilities can permanently increase a person's specific stats beyond their actual level, while other abilities can temporarily increase their user's overall stats beyond their actual level.

Basic attributes are divided between; Strength (Strength), Endurance (Durability), Dexterity (Dexterity), Agility (Speed), Magic (Magic); each of which is displayed with a rating and number ranging from 0-999.

0-99 is I

100-199 is H

200-299 is G

300-399 is F

400-499 is E

500-599 is D

600-699 is C

700-799 is B

800- 899 is A

900-999 is S.

It's quite easy to understand considering this is like a power system in RPG games.

Base attributes will be reset to I0 on each level increase, although attributes obtained before each rank increase will remain invisible base.

It's more like stacking another piece of paper on top of the old one.

The attribute may not be visible, but it's still there under there.

To level up, one must have at least a D rank in one basic ability and collect enough high-level excelia to fill their container, thus allowing them to level up.

Skills are innate abilities with various properties such as improving and strengthening basic abilities, magic, and certain actions.

The opportunity to obtain a Skill is said to be rare, and a Skill with an effect that no one else has is considered an extremely rare Skill.

Skills can be acquired from an individual's innate nature or through other means such as repeated practice.

While Magic; as the name suggests is an ability that allows the user to cast the Magic he has in his Magic slot.

Magic is divided into two parts: Innate Magic and Acquired Magic.

For the former, the general case is the Elves. They—Elves—were mortal creatures who could use Magic long before the arrival of the Gods. Even so, Elven Magic is somewhat unique; Elf Magic is the Innate Magic of their Race, which can be used without having a Falna.

Even so, Elven Magic, or more specifically Innate Magic, has its own drawbacks; a longer cast, and a weaker effect when compared to Magic Acquired through Falna.

While Acquired Magic is Magic obtained after obtaining Falna.

A person naturally has between one and three slots for Magic and can usually only learn one Magic per-slot, but most people tend to never have Magic appear in their Magic slots.

For people with one or two slots, the number can be increased through the use of a grimoire, but the absolute maximum is 3—even with a Grimoire.

Filling the first magic slot seems a bit difficult to achieve, while filling the second slot is more difficult and the third is even harder to fill than the second.

In rare cases, the third Magic is not obtained no matter how many grimoires are used, this often happens to high-level magicians.

A special Excelia is required to obtain the third Magic.

While someone can use Magic even if they don't have a Falna, the Magic used while having a Falna tends to be stronger than regular Magic without a Falna.

Meanwhile, Development Ability is a special ability that has the opportunity to appear every time you level up starting from Level 2.

Development Ability is a characteristic that specializes in a particular field.

Starting from Level 2, there is a chance to get one every time you level up. There is also the possibility that one does not appear at the top level, or that several appear to choose from.

Like basic attributes, Development Abilities are also categorized from "I" to "S"; however, they are much more difficult to train and do not reset to "I" with each new level gain.

Apart from that, there are other things such as Curses, whose abilities are almost the same as Magic, the only difference is that Curses are used to bind, confuse, or share pain with an opponent.

"—Do you understand?" Loki looked at Kelvin who had been watching him.

His eyes were covered by a cloth as if it didn't make it difficult for him to see what was around him.

"Mn, I understand." Kelvin nodded.

"Hmm, actually I was curious from the start. How can you see with your eyes closed like that?"

Loki knew Kelvin wasn't completely blind from Riveria, but he didn't know the reason why Kelvin did that.

Kelvin held his chin with a thoughtful expression, before finally answering, "Hmm, just think of it as practice. Besides, in actual combat I shouldn't rely too much on my sense of sight."

From what he had experienced, Kelvin knew that if he lost his sense of sight, then it was game over. That way, what he needs to do is get used to not relying too much on his sense of sight.

Kelvin started using an eye patch to block his sense of sight. It may be very difficult at first, but over time he gets used to this and has no trouble walking on busy city streets and not bumping into anything.

"Oh, I see." Loki nodded, and thought his previous speculation was correct.

There aren't many cases, but some humans awaken the Skill before getting Falna. And those skills are related to the things they do.

Although most of them are trivial skills such as fishing and sewing, it is not uncommon for someone to awaken fighting skills due to previous intensive training.
