Chapter 90: Zenitsu Vs Kaigaku
The chamber crackled with raw energy, the tension between Zenitsu and Kaigaku palpable as they stared each other down. The flickering torchlight cast eerie shadows across the walls, giving the room an otherworldly quality.
Kaigaku smirked, rolling his shoulders as if warming up for a leisurely bout. "You're really going to fight me, Zenitsu? Do you even realize how outclassed you are?"
Zenitsu's eyes burned with fury. He gripped his sword tightly, his stance low and charged with potential energy. "I don't care how powerful you've become, Kaigaku. You betrayed Master. You betrayed everything we stood for."
Kaigaku laughed, the sound echoing like a mockery through the chamber. "Spare me your sanctimony. Master was weak. Clinging to outdated ideals, holding me back. Becoming a demon was the only way to achieve true strength."
Zenitsu's grip on his blade tightened, the veins in his hands bulging. "Master believed in us. In both of us. You spat on his teachings and his trust."
Kaigaku's smirk faded slightly, his eyes narrowing. "Enough talk. Let's see if you can back up all that righteous indignation."
With that, Kaigaku vanished, his speed almost imperceptible. Zenitsu barely had time to react as Kaigaku reappeared behind him, his blade swinging in a deadly arc.
Zenitsu leaped forward, narrowly avoiding the strike. The force of Kaigaku's swing sent a shockwave through the chamber, cracking the stone floor.
Zenitsu spun midair, his sword gleaming with a golden hue as he channeled his breathing technique. "Thunder Breathing: First Form – Thunderclap and Flash!"
He vanished in a burst of speed, a streak of light aimed directly at Kaigaku.
Kaigaku scoffed, effortlessly dodging the attack. "That old move? You're going to have to do better than that, Zenitsu."
Zenitsu landed and immediately pivoted, charging forward with another strike. His movements were faster, more precise, each swing of his blade a testament to his training and determination.
Kaigaku met Zenitsu's assault with his own sword, the clash of their blades creating sparks that lit up the chamber. Kaigaku's dark aura seemed to grow with each swing, his strikes heavier and more relentless.
"You're still just a one-trick pony," Kaigaku taunted, pushing Zenitsu back. "You rely on speed and brute force. But you'll never match me."
Zenitsu gritted his teeth, his breath steadying as he prepared his next move. "Maybe I don't need to match you. Maybe I just need to be faster."
Kaigaku's smirk widened as his blade began to glow with a sinister, dark lightning. The air around him seemed to distort, his energy oppressive and suffocating.
"Let me show you what real power looks like," Kaigaku said, his voice dripping with malice.
He raised his blade, and a surge of black lightning erupted from its edge, crackling and arcing toward Zenitsu.
Zenitsu rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. The lightning struck the ground, leaving a smoldering crater in its wake.
"You've corrupted Thunder Breathing," Zenitsu said, his voice tinged with both anger and sorrow.
"Corrupted?" Kaigaku echoed with a laugh. "No, I've perfected it. You'll see soon enough."
Kaigaku charged forward, his blade a blur as he unleashed a flurry of attacks. Zenitsu parried as best he could, his feet skidding across the stone floor with each clash.
As their blades locked, Zenitsu's mind raced. Memories of training with Kaigaku flooded his thoughts—those grueling sessions under Master Kuwajima's watchful eye, the camaraderie they had once shared.
"You were like a brother to me," Zenitsu said through gritted teeth, his voice trembling with emotion. "How could you throw it all away?"
Kaigaku sneered, pushing Zenitsu back. "You're pathetic, Zenitsu. Always whining, always clinging to others for strength. You'll never understand what it means to stand on your own."
"I stand on the foundation of what Master taught us," Zenitsu shot back. "That's something you'll never understand."
Kaigaku's expression darkened, and he lunged forward with a roar, his attacks growing more ferocious.
Zenitsu's breathing steadied as he dodged and countered, his movements becoming more fluid, more deliberate.
"You can't win this," Kaigaku said, his voice tinged with arrogance. "You're weak. You always have been."
Zenitsu's eyes hardened, his grip on his sword tightening. "I was weak," he admitted. "But I learned something you never did: true strength comes from protecting others, not from selfish ambition."
Kaigaku laughed mockingly. "Keep telling yourself that while I cut you down."
Zenitsu's blade shimmered with golden lightning as he prepared his next attack. "Thunder Breathing: Seventh Form – Flaming Thunder God!"
He dashed forward, his speed blinding as he unleashed a devastating strike. Kaigaku barely managed to block, the force of the attack sending him staggering backward.
As the battle raged on, both fighters grew more battered and bloodied. Zenitsu's body ached, his muscles screaming in protest, but his resolve remained unshaken.
"This isn't just for Master," Zenitsu thought, his gaze locked on Kaigaku. "This is for everyone you've hurt. For everyone you've betrayed."
Kaigaku's breathing grew heavier, his movements becoming more erratic. "You're stubborn, I'll give you that," he said, his voice laced with frustration. "But you're still no match for me."
Zenitsu steadied himself, his eyes blazing with determination. "We'll see about that."
The chamber shook with the intensity of their clash, the air thick with the scent of ozone and the sound of their swords meeting.
Kaigaku unleashed another wave of black lightning, the attack splitting the floor and sending debris flying. Zenitsu darted through the chaos, his movements a blur as he closed the distance between them.
"Thunder Breathing: Sixth Form – Rumble and Flash!" Zenitsu cried, his blade slicing through the air with deadly precision.
Kaigaku countered with a powerful strike of his own, their blades colliding in a shower of sparks.
As they stood locked in combat, their gazes met. Zenitsu saw the hatred and arrogance in Kaigaku's eyes, and it only fueled his determination.
"This ends here," Zenitsu thought, his grip on his sword tightening.
The battle was far from over, but one thing was clear: Zenitsu would stop at nothing to bring Kaigaku down.
