Chapter 19 - Father Visits
Elliott Hydra Valenfield Kilyam. According to what I’ve heard, he’s a handsome man with black hair and the current head of the Kilyam Duke family, which rules the Glass Region.
That’s my father.
It seems a report came in that a spirit mark has appeared on my body, so he hastily changed his plans and came to this mansion to verify with his own eyes whether the spirit mark is genuine.
“Oh! This is splendid… The more I look, the more magnificent it appears. There’s no doubt about it. This must be a water spirit mark, and quite a high-ranking one at that.”
Embarrassingly, I’m shirtless in front of my father. Well, it’s okay because I’m still a toddler.
“But his growth isn’t good. He doesn’t look like a four-year-old at all, and he’s too thin. How is his health?”
Hahaha, well, that’s true. I’m quite skinny. It’s a valid point. But even so, compared to how I was before, I’ve improved a bit.
“Since the spirit mark appeared, He hadn’t been bedridden anymore. He’s also been eating more lately, so I believe his condition is better than before.”
That’s right. I can’t eat a lot at once, but I eat small amounts multiple times a day, so my daily food intake has increased significantly. The head chef has been enthusiastic about it, not only making sure it’s easily digestible, but also making it delicious.
“Is that so? Well then, let’s arrange to have nourishing food sent from the capital. Please make sure not to push him too hard. Until he grows up healthy, it seems best for you to spend your time peacefully in this bountiful mansion… What do you think?”
Father asked Moriss-san with a hint of reservation. Well, since he only knows me through letters, it’s understandable that he’s unsure about how things are here.
“Indeed, you are right. There are too many variables outside. Staying here should help avoid unnecessary interference.”
Hmm? Variable? Unnecessary interference? What on earth does that mean? Tell me more, Moriss-san!
“Then, I’ll continue to rely on you.”
“Understood, we are all committed to ensuring the young master safety.”
“As a precaution, let’s increase security in the mansion. We’ll allocate personnel from the capital’s knight order and the main residence. Morris, I’ll leave the personnel selection to your judgment; please make the arrangements.”
Too bad. The conversation ended before I could understand it well. It seems security will be increased, so maybe I don’t need to worry?
My refined-looking father came like a storm and also left like a storm.
“It seems Father is quite busy.”
“He engages in a lot of social activities, so his schedules are quite packed.”
There was a nuance there, as if he were avoiding something. I sensed that. Perhaps there are adult reasons they can’t discuss with a child.
“Do Father and Mother usually live in the capital?”
“Yes, they stay in the capital or one of its nearby estates.”
I tried to extract information about my family and asked questions at every opportunity. I’m actively working on learning the language, so my vocabulary is increasing steadily. I’ve also learned a bit about the local geography.
According to what I’ve learned, the capital is called Glassbridge, a fortress city to the east of Valenfield, where we are now. It’s where the government offices and the main residence of the Kilyam Ducal House are located.
A fortress city sounds pretty cool. It doesn’t seem too far from here, so I’d love to visit once I have the stamina.
“Is the capital far away?”
“Yes, Valenfield is located at the western edge of the Belfast Kingdom, so it’s quite a distance to the capital.”
My parents seem to live in the capital residence and are there regularly, not returning to the estate much, especially my mother.
Despite being very busy, my father rearranged his schedule to come here. He seemed delighted, but he left immediately after confirming the spirit mark.
That means the spirit mark must be quite valuable, right? Everyone around me keeps saying how amazing it is, but I still don’t quite get it.
I also learned some new information about my siblings.
In the capital, I have a younger brother who is two years younger than me and a newborn sister. They all share the same mother, so they are my full siblings.
It seems like they’re planning the births quite precisely, doesn’t it?
They probably want to have many children with a strong affinity for spirits. Or maybe they’re a spare in case the eldest son (me) is frail. In noble families, having a male heir is essential.
A younger brother, huh? In my past life, I had noisy sisters, so having a brother is a first for me.
I’d like to meet them, but the distance is too great, so it might not be possible for a while. I know there’s no use rushing things, but I can’t wait to grow up.
And someday, I’d love to explore various places in this world.
