Chapter 18 - Spirit Mark
When the talk with Ai was over, I began to check my body methodically. I couldn’t help but feel anxious. I wanted to finish checking before someone came into the room.
So, what was I doing exactly? I was searching for my spirit mark.
Spirit Mark: [Water Spirit King] [Spirit Summoning (Sealed)]
These were the newly added entries to my status. If it was called a spirit mark, there had to be some sort of tattoo-like-mark on my body.
It didn’t matter if it couldn’t be seen, but if it could be seen by others, that would be a concern. So, where was it?
First, I spread out my hands and turned them over, as I didn’t know how big the spirit mark was. I had to carefully examine even the smallest details.
Hmm, it didn’t seem to be on my hands. I rolled up my sleeves and checked my arms, but I couldn’t find it there either. It wasn’t on the backs of my feet or the soles, nor on my thighs or calves.
If it wasn’t on my limbs, then it had to be on my torso. My chest, abdomen, or maybe my back… Could it even be on my buttocks?
If it were visible like a Mongolian spot, it would be too embarrassing. I momentarily imagined it and hastily flipped up my nightgown and courageously took it off.
Since I had a slim child’s body, if it were on the front of my body, it should immediately be visible.
I found it! It was in a somewhat difficult-to-see spot due to the angle, but it was a noticeable size that I couldn’t miss.
It extended over my left shoulder and collarbone, probably reaching my neck and back as well. A large pattern with a deep blue color emitting a purple-tinged blue glow—a dark blue giant snowflake, with a central hexagram shining like a radiant flower.
I instinctively pushed my shoulder forward, lifted my body slightly, and bent my knee.
Hey, hey, open your eyes wide and take a good look! What you’re seeing is… this Ice Storm, you know? I even joked with myself.
Thinking that I had really slipped up, I eagerly put on my nightgown again. Well, for various reasons.
《Master, did you call for me? 》
Sorry, just talking to myself. I didn’t call you, so don’t worry. I just felt like trying something out.
By the way, that person from my dream… had their spirit mark on their right shoulder, opposite to mine. And that mark resembles cherry blossoms, evoking the image of spring. Even with one shoulder exposed, they still looked warm. But mine is an actual snowflake. Yeah, it gives me goosebumps.
But it’s a relief that it’s not on my buttocks. It’s really visible! There’s no way I can hide it.
…Wait a minute, though. That’s right. I’m currently seeing this with my magic eye. In other words, this pattern might not be noticeable to regular people.
Because it’s a spirit mark, it might be more visible to those who have a strong affinity with spirits. But there might not be too many people who fall into that category, so maybe I don’t need to worry too much?
At times like this, I miss being able to see things the old way. I wonder if it’s visible to others. I’m a little nervous.
—-The answer became clear immediately: it was indeed visible to those who could see it.
The color I was concerned about seemed to appear as silver with a blue glow to the naked eye. Surprisingly, there was something I hadn’t expected. There were quite a few people who had a strong affinity with spirits in this mansion.
It made sense when I thought about it. There were several relatives of the Duke’s family here.
People with the bloodline of the Kilyam Duchy tended to have a high affinity with spirits. As if to prove that, there were quite a few people who could see the spirit mark.
Different individuals saw it differently, and there were variations in how they perceived it.
1.One person clearly saw blue glow and silver patterns (the house steward Moriss).
2. One person saw a blue glow that scattered like silver dust, resembling a pattern (a military officer from the Forester family).
3. Three people saw a faint bluish glow (Mrs. Evans, the chief nanny, and two guards from the Fowler and Ward families).
The blue glow was referred to as spirit light, and it seemed that water spirits emitted this same-colored light.
By the way, spirit light could be seen even in the dark. The guards were thankful for this, as it made it easier to find their way at night.
I’m really, really relieved it’s on my shoulder. If it had been on my buttocks, I wouldn’t have found it funny at all.
The people who could see the spirit mark were all deeply moved. When they first saw it, it was as if they are frozen, and when they move again, they were on their knees with their hands on their chests.
I was puzzled about how to address them, as they all seemed to make the same prayer-like pose. It made me wonder if there was some sort of rule about this because they all acted uniformly.
It turns out that being able to see the spirit mark or spirit light is a sign of a deep connection with spirits. For the prestigious Kilyam Ducal family, who have a strong tradition of spirit worship, this holds significant value.
I can’t help but wonder about my situation. I have the spirit mark for the “Water Spirit King” prominently displayed on my young child’s body. What will happen when I grow up? I hope it becomes less conspicuous, but I don’t have high hopes.
After all, my ability to summon spirits is currently sealed. And yet, the mark is still so visible. What will happen when this seal is lifted?
Well, it’s probably too early to worry about it now. I’ll just have to go with the flow and see what happens. That’s all I can do.
