The Yun Lan Sect stood high on Yun Lan Mountain, located only a few dozen li from the capital, with the two places looming over each other like great titans poised for confrontation.

On the wide, open road leading up the mountain, two tall young men were walking slowly. The youth in green robes bore a faint, inscrutable smile, his handsome yet enigmatic face glowing in the morning sun. Beside him walked another youth clad in black robes, his back bearing a massive, eye-catching black ruler.

Every now and then, passing travelers would cast astonished looks at the duo, but neither Mo Yu nor Xiao Yan paid them any mind. Mo Yu's eyes turned to Xiao Yan, who walked steadily even with the Heavy Xuan Ruler strapped to his back, each step leaving only a shallow imprint in the dirt. Mo Yu raised a brow in appreciation; the Heavy Xuan Ruler might appear ordinary, but its quality was no less than a fourth- or fifth-grade weapon.

Each step Xiao Yan took seemed to bring him closer in harmony with his weapon, while his newly advanced Da Dou Shi aura stabilized further, shedding the lingering instability of a recent breakthrough. Mo Yu's approval was nearly imperceptible, but there nonetheless. As expected of a disciple trained by Yao Lao.

"Mo Yu, your cousin isn't an ordinary person," a familiar voice sounded in Mo Yu's mind—She Lao's. "Not to mention that Dou Huang peak-level girl you mentioned as his bodyguard. It seems this small Xiao Clan has attracted quite a few prodigies."

Hearing She Lao mention Xun'er, Mo Yu started, then gave a wry smile. When Ling Ying's identity was revealed, Mo Yu had explained Xun'er's background, and it seemed She Lao had taken that to heart. She Lao wasn't wrong; Mo Yu, Xiao Yan, and Xun'er were all at the top of their generation across the continent.

After about half an hour of walking, they stopped at a slope, gazing at the vast mountain base below. There, a huge army camp sprawled across the flat grasslands, white tents stretched across the field with soldiers training in formation visible beyond them.

"That's the elite corps stationed by the Jia Ma royal family beneath Yun Lan Mountain." Mo Yu shook his head, uninterested in the tensions between the Jia Ma royal family and the Yun Lan Sect. He and Xiao Yan continued walking down the slope, heading toward the mountain base.

As the verdant greenery appeared on both sides, the sound of soldiers' drills faded. Glancing up, they saw a long stairway stretching into the distance, its ancient stones winding up like a ladder to the heavens.

Standing at the base, Mo Yu looked up at the weathered steps, likely thousands of years old, then turned to the young man beside him with a faint smile.

"Xiao Yan, we're almost at the Yun Lan Sect. Are you ready?"

"Haha, Mo Yu, don't worry! I won't let any of you down at the end of these three years!" Xiao Yan laughed confidently, patting the Heavy Xuan Ruler on his back.

Seeing Xiao Yan, usually reserved, displaying such confidence, Mo Yu gave an approving nod. No one knew better than Mo Yu how much these three years meant to Xiao Yan. That marriage annulment three years ago had weighed on him like a mountain, and with this upcoming showdown, he was finally ready to release that burden.

As Mo Yu mused, the black-robed youth stepped forward, his foot landing on the slightly damp stone steps, steady and resolute.

At the top of the long stairway, shrouded in mist, lay a massive square. Close to a thousand people sat cross-legged across the square, all dressed in moon-white robes, arranged in a half-circle formation.

The top tier of the square had high stone seats. These seats were arranged in tiers, generally increasing in age as the seats rose. The highest stone seat was currently empty, while a dozen white-robed elders sat below, eyes closed in meditation. Each elder was a true high-level member of the Yun Lan Sect, exuding an aura and strength far beyond the average person.

Below the elders sat a lone figure, a young woman in a moon-colored robe, eyes closed as the breeze pressed her robes against her figure, accentuating her graceful curves. Her serene, beautiful face revealed her identity as Nalan Yanran.

A sudden swooshing sound drew the gaze upward, revealing several figures standing atop tall trees surrounding the square. Among them were figures like Hai Bodong, Fa Ma, Jia Xingtian, Nalan Jie, and several other clan leaders and younger members, such as Mu Zhan, who had previously clashed with Mo Yu. Evidently, they were guests invited by the Yun Lan Sect.

The Xiao Clan, as a party directly involved, should have been invited too. However, the declining Xiao Clan had been dismissed as unimportant, and the Yun Lan Sect had not bothered to send an invitation to a minor family in a small town. If it weren't for Mo Yu, Xiao Yan would have come alone.

The sun climbed to its zenith, casting warm light across the mountain. Suddenly, two pairs of footsteps echoed up the stone steps outside the square, breaking the unified aura among the Yun Lan Sect disciples.

Everyone's gaze shifted toward the steps, where two figures approached at a steady pace. Nalan Yanran opened her bright eyes, frowning slightly at the sound of two sets of footsteps. Besides Xiao Yan, who was the other?

The footsteps grew louder, drawing even the attention of the white-robed elders, who opened their eyes to look.

Sunlight broke through the drifting clouds above, casting its rays onto the final steps, illuminating two tall, lean figures. Under the gaze of close to a thousand people on the square, the youth with a faint smile and the black-robed youth with the massive ruler finally stepped into view.

Mo Yu's calm gaze swept across the Yun Lan Sect's high-level members and thousands of disciples. Seeing such an imposing lineup, he couldn't help but reveal a cold smile. They're clearly setting up Xiao Yan and the Xiao Clan as stepping stones to further their Yun Lan Sect's reputation.

As Mo Yu observed, Xiao Yan stepped forward, his voice ringing powerfully across the square.

"Xiao Clan, Xiao Yan!"

Seeing Xiao Yan's straightforward introduction, Mo Yu was momentarily stunned, then shook his head with a slight smile. He, too, stepped forward, standing beside Xiao Yan. Facing the Yun Lan Sect crowd and their invited guests, he spoke in a calm voice.

"Xiao Clan's Mo Yu, here to witness the duel!"
