Blessed Visor

Chapter 18: Chapter 17: The Exodus

As the adventurer escaped the Wendigo's skull, the rapidly melting ice surged downwards like a collapsing dam, a wall of water cascading towards the creature. The warped gravity around the Wendigo intensified, pulling everything towards its center, further fueling its rage. The creature roared in frustration, its skeletal form shuddering as the torrent of icy water crashed against it. The adventurer, now skating downwards on the dissipating fumes of ice and frost left by the rapidly melting ice, reached the edge of the rapidly spreading water, which was now forming a raised wall around the area. He touched the water's surface, uttering a single word: "Reservoir." In an instant, the water began to reverse its flow, solidifying rapidly back into ice, materializing into massive, jagged waves that crashed against each other, creating a chaotic landscape of ice spikes and frozen crests.

The scene shifted to David, trapped beneath the rapidly reforming ice. The space around him was still liquid, a freezing pocket within the newly solidified surface. He banged his fists against the ice above, desperately gasping for air, his lungs burning. The distorted gravity pulled a grotesque parody of a horse, a "Trojan horse" corpse created from the battlefield's debris and magically animated, swimming towards him through the icy water. David's eyes widened in horror as he saw it approaching. Looking upwards through the blue, slightly transparent ice above, he could see the Wendigo roaring, its gaping maw just above him, though still several feet away. He tried frantically to swim away from the approaching corpse, but the warped gravity and the thick water hampered his movements. The Trojan horse corpse slammed into him, smacking him against the icy ground, further injuring his already damaged leg. He felt his cheek scrape against the ice, tearing open the wound further, and he began to choke, the icy water entering his lungs.

Just as David felt his consciousness fading, the ice above him shattered, a massive chunk, as large as a skyscraper, breaking free. A massive amount of water, along with uprooted trees and more corpses, crashed down, engulfing him. David was tossed about in the chaotic torrent, slamming against the icy fragments and debris. The massive chunk of ice, along with the other debris, fell directly into the Wendigo's open mouth, rupturing and mangling its skeletal jaws. The force of the impact pushed the creature's partially emerged body further into the black fog, causing it to blister and crack with dark energy. Waves of icy water and sharp icicles rushed across the surface of the newly formed ice, ripping and tearing at anything in their path. The woman who had conjured the Wendigo watched the rain of ice falling everywhere, the sharp fragments tearing her skin, drawing blood.

Suddenly, the adventurer reappeared behind her, teleporting in a flash of light. He swiftly struck his light sword through her back, the blade piercing her heart. He then vanished again, teleporting away as quickly as he had arrived.

As the portal from which the Wendigo had emerged began to shrink, the pull of the warped gravity intensified. The black fog was now being drawn back into the shrinking portal, along with the swirling water and ice, creating a terrifying vortex, a miniature hurricane or a dark Bermuda Triangle. The sky above began to fracture, as if it too was being sucked into the swirling void. Then, as quickly as it had begun, the gravity returned to normal. The walls of ice and debris collapsed, the Wendigo's broken body shuddering as it was finally pulled completely into the shrinking portal. The shockwave from the portal's closure spread outwards, breaking and even cracking the distant mountains. The Wendigo was gone, pulled back into whatever dark realm it had come from, leaving only its skull as a gruesome remnant of its brief incursion into this world. The portal closed completely, leaving behind only the lingering scent of ozone and the echo of the creature's final, agonizing roar.
