Battle Through The Heavens : I Am The Thunder Emperor

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Mastering the Flying Technique

Chapter 72: Mastering the Flying Technique

In the fresh air of the forest, Mo Yu lay perfectly still in a patch of grass, his breath completely controlled, his body as immobile as a stone. His sharp eyes were fixed on a green wolf drinking from a stream nearby.

It had been three days since he parted ways with the Little Fairy Doctor. During this time, he had ventured deeper into the Magic Beast Mountain Range, and now found himself near the center of the vast forest.

The green wolf before him was an ordinary second-rank beast, its strength comparable to that of a human Dou Practitioner of two or three stars.

Over the past few days, Mo Yu had worn the wolf down, leaving it covered in wounds. He was waiting for the right moment to deliver a fatal blow, to avoid the beast's final desperate struggle.

"Now's the time!"

As the green wolf limped to the stream and lowered its head to drink, Mo Yu sprang into action. He dashed through the falling leaves, appearing behind the wolf in an instant. Seventeen lightning patterns surged up his right arm, filling him with power. Clenching his fist, he struck the wolf's waist with the full force of the thunder energy.

"Thunder Armor!"

As soon as the words left his lips, the tremendous force of his punch sent the wolf skidding across the ground, crashing into a tree trunk. With a final whimper, the beast's legs twitched before it lay still, its life extinguished.

Mo Yu quickly approached the fallen beast, pulling out a small knife from his belt. He sliced open the wolf's skull, revealing a small green crystal inside.

"A second-rank magic core, at last," he muttered with satisfaction. Over the past few days, he had felt on the verge of a breakthrough, and this magic core was just what he needed to take that final step.

After extracting the core, Mo Yu casually discarded the wolf's body. He then determined his location and set off toward a nearby mountain wall.

Arriving at a steep cliff with a small cave about four or five meters up, Mo Yu nimbly climbed the slippery, moss-covered rocks, quickly disappearing into the cave he had prepared in advance.

The interior of the cave was cool but spacious enough for Mo Yu to live comfortably. It contained some basic supplies, and at the back of the cave was a stone bed where Mo Yu settled down to cultivate.

Sitting cross-legged on the stone bed, Mo Yu first performed the hand seals for his cultivation technique, slowly replenishing the Dou Qi he had expended in the recent battle. After an hour of this, feeling his Dou Qi was fully restored, he summoned the black lightning within him.

Mo Yu was now quite skilled in using the black lightning to absorb magic cores, and the process of absorbing this second-rank core went smoothly.

As the energy from the core surged through him, it was like the final push he needed to break through to the next level.

"Eight-star Dou Practitioner!" Mo Yu exclaimed with a smile as he felt the newfound power coursing through his veins. He was now just two steps away from becoming a Dou Master.

However, these last two steps would require a significant amount of energy, which meant his progress would slow down unless he found a way to speed it up.

Shaking off these thoughts, Mo Yu reached into his storage ring and retrieved a black scroll—the advanced flying technique he had acquired.

Untying the carefully bound string, Mo Yu unrolled the black scroll, revealing two dark wings that seemed to exude a faint purple aura. The wings had a metallic sheen, as if they were made of black steel, and emitted a faint heat.

"The Black Flame Purple Cloud Eagle, a fifth-rank flying magical beast, is said to possess a trace of ancient phoenix blood. It is one of the fastest flying beasts, known for its cunning and ferocity. It is extremely difficult to capture and only lives in the Cloudy Mist region in the southern part of the continent," Mo Yu read from the small print at the bottom of the scroll.

"I didn't expect this flying technique to come from the southern part of the continent," he mused, rubbing his chin.

His gaze returned to the wings depicted on the scroll, and he lightly touched the slightly purple, black wings.

With his exceptional soul perception, Mo Yu quickly sensed the presence of a violent, fierce spirit hidden within the wings.

"There's a remnant soul inside these wings. To create this flying technique, they must have extracted both the wings and soul of the beast using some secret method. The Dou Qi continent truly has some remarkable techniques," Mo Yu remarked, impressed.

"Let's see if I can tame this remnant soul first."

Placing both hands on the wings, Mo Yu closed his eyes and began to focus.

Soon after his hands touched the wings, the spirit within let out a sharp, soul-piercing cry. The sound traveled through the scroll and up Mo Yu's arms, as if trying to drill into his brain.

But Mo Yu's soul was strong, comparable to that of a Dou Grandmaster, and with the black lightning to aid him, even a remnant soul of a fifth-rank beast was no match for him.

After just three minutes of struggle, the remnant soul of the Purple Cloud Eagle was thoroughly subdued.

Mo Yu wasn't surprised by the quick victory. If he couldn't even handle a remnant soul, he had no business exploring the continent.

With the eagle's soul tamed, Mo Yu resumed the process of learning the technique. He followed the scroll's instructions, guiding his Dou Qi along the prescribed paths within his body. Soon, his Dou Qi flowed into his arms and then into his hands.

As the Dou Qi entered his palms, the wings on the scroll began to glow, growing more vivid until they transformed into two streaks of purple-black light. These streaks shot into Mo Yu's hands and began coursing through his meridians, splitting into two tiny new channels as they reached his back.

The wings on the scroll disappeared entirely, their power now fully integrated into Mo Yu's body.

Mo Yu focused his mind and directed his Dou Qi into the newly formed channels. As it flowed, the purple-black wings manifested on his back, growing from the size of his palm to about two feet long.

Feeling the solid presence of the wings, Mo Yu gave them a light flap. With a rush of wind, he leaped from the cave, soaring into the sky.

"It's been a while since I felt this," Mo Yu murmured, hovering in midair, looking down at the world from above. The experience of flight brought a wave of nostalgia.
