Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Farewell
Chapter 71: Farewell
As Mo Yu and the Little Fairy Doctor exited the stone chamber and reached the cave's entrance, they noticed that the rope they had used to descend was now gone.
"It must be the work of the Wolf Head Mercenary Group," Mo Yu said with a frown as he looked at the damaged rope.
Hearing this, the Little Fairy Doctor bit her lip and said, "I have a way."
"Oh?" Mo Yu smiled, curious. "What's your plan?"
Without a word, the Little Fairy Doctor pulled a small bamboo flute from her pocket. She placed it to her lips and blew softly. A strange sound wave emanated from the flute, echoing through the passage and out into the night sky beyond the cliff.
Holding up the bamboo flute, the Little Fairy Doctor smiled playfully. "My partner can help us get out of here. It's a first-rank Blue Eagle."
Mo Yu nodded. On the Dou Qi continent, while there was no concept of enslaving magical beasts through contracts, some humans could still form bonds with these creatures, achieving a similar effect.
"Kree!"
Not long after the sound wave was released, a sharp cry echoed through the night. Under the moonlight, Mo Yu could make out a massive blue eagle rapidly approaching from the mountains. In just a few moments, it began circling below the cliff.
"Let's go," the Little Fairy Doctor said excitedly, beckoning to Mo Yu.
Nodding slightly, Mo Yu wrapped his arm around the Little Fairy Doctor's slender waist and leaped onto the giant blue eagle.
"Xiao Lan, take off!"
At the Little Fairy Doctor's command, the eagle flapped its massive wings, creating a powerful gust of wind. It then soared into the sky, carrying the two passengers with it.
The space on the eagle's back was limited, and the wind was strong at high altitudes. Mo Yu didn't release his hold on the Little Fairy Doctor, keeping her securely in his arms.
Feeling his hand on her waist and the warmth of his firm chest against her back, the Little Fairy Doctor's face turned crimson, though Mo Yu, unaware of her blush, continued to focus on the journey.
As the wind howled around them, Mo Yu enjoyed the convenience of flying on the eagle and began contemplating whether he should contract a magical beast of his own in the coming days. The Magic Beast Mountain Range was full of such creatures, and with his Beast Ring, he could summon one without needing special signals like the Little Fairy Doctor did. It would be very convenient.
As this thought took root, Mo Yu's desire to contract a beast grew stronger. While taming magical beasts was rare on the Dou Qi continent due to their strength, the northwest was not as dangerous as Central Continent, where powerful magical beast clans existed. As long as he was careful, there would be little risk.
"Mo Yu, where will you go next?" the Little Fairy Doctor asked. She had been growing more comfortable around Mo Yu, especially since he hadn't done anything inappropriate, which made her trust him even more.
Mo Yu hesitated for a moment, his thoughts returning to the present as he inhaled the faint fragrance of the girl in his arms. "I plan to stay in the Magic Beast Mountain Range for a while, then cross it and head to the Mu Lan Empire."
"The Mu Lan Empire?" she murmured softly, her voice tinged with reluctance. "Leaving the Jia Ma Empire… will you ever come back?"
Realizing how intimate her question sounded, the Little Fairy Doctor blushed and bit her lip, regretting her words. As a cold wind swept past, she shivered slightly. Noticing this, Mo Yu tightened his hold, his not-too-tall frame almost entirely enveloping her.
"I don't plan to leave anytime soon," Mo Yu said, his voice thoughtful. "If fate allows, we'll meet again."
Feeling the warmth of his embrace, the Little Fairy Doctor nodded, a sense of emptiness settling in her heart as he loosened his hold.
"We're nearing the herb gathering team," she said, looking down at the campfires below. "If you're not returning with me, I'll let you off here. You can leave at dawn. Is that alright?"
"Mm," Mo Yu replied, releasing her waist with a smile. "Then this is where we part ways. It might be a long time before we see each other again."
The Little Fairy Doctor's heart sank as the warmth of his embrace faded. She nodded, trying to hide her disappointment.
"Take this," Mo Yu said, pulling out a small, pale green token from his storage ring and handing it to her. "This is a 'Zi Mu Flying Signal Token.' If one of these tokens is damaged, the other will sense it. I won't be leaving the Magic Beast Mountain Range for a while. If the Wolf Head Mercenary Group gives you trouble, just break this token. I'll sense it and come to help you."
This token was something Mo Yu had crafted back in Wu Tan City. After their adventure in the cave, he felt a certain bond with the Little Fairy Doctor and didn't want her to fall victim to the altered storyline.
The Little Fairy Doctor was stunned as she took the black token from him, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions. She nodded silently, holding the token close.
"I'm off, then," Mo Yu said with a smile, waving goodbye as he turned and walked into the darkness of the forest. "Farewell."
"Goodbye…" she whispered, watching his figure disappear into the night. Clutching the small black token, she felt a warmth she had never known before.
"Is this what it feels like to be cared for by a friend? It's a nice feeling. Mo Yu… you might be the only true friend I'll ever have," she murmured, her voice tinged with sadness. The Little Fairy Doctor, burdened by her Woeful Poison Body, had never experienced such kindness before.
