Chapter 38
Chapter 38: Brave, But a Little Foolish!
“Hmph, I don’t care how you treat others, but if you can’t control your mouth and eyes around me, don’t blame me for being rude!” Zhao Zhirou’s beautiful eyes swept over the few rich kids, then she slowly retracted her gun while staring at the young man with the fashionable hairstyle.
“No, no, I wouldn’t dare …” The young man with the buzz cut breathed a sigh of relief and quickly admitted defeat.
“Alright, let’s get down to business!” At this moment, the oldest officer in his forties, Uncle Chen, spoke up. “Let’s do it this way. I’ll create a distraction to lure away the zombies. Meanwhile, you guys sneak in to grab the firearms and ammo. Any objections?”
Originally, Zhao Zhirou had planned to have these rich kids drive and lure the zombies away since they were essentially dead weight in combat. But seeing how things were now, it was clear they were completely unreliable. As for the two bodyguards, they weren’t much more dependable either.
“Zhirou, I’ll go with you. At least two people can watch each other’s backs!”
Among the four officers, the youngest, Sun Hai, stepped forward and volunteered to assist Zhao Zhirou with creating the distraction and attracting the zombies.
“Alright then, Zhirou and Xiao Hai, you two will drive and lure the zombies away. The rest of us will search the police station for supplies. We’ll limit the operation to ten minutes—no matter what happens, we retreat after ten minutes.”
Uncle Chen and Old Zhao nodded, finalizing the plan.
No one had any objections, and eventually, everyone agreed.
“Okay, you guys head to the vehicle first. Once we’re ready, we’ll notify you via the walkie-talkie.”
Uncle Chen and Old Zhao nodded in agreement.
“No problem!” The two bodyguards and the six young men and women also responded.
“Let’s move!”
Seeing this, Zhao Zhirou and Sun Hai immediately began to act.
Meanwhile, Uncle Chen and Old Zhao led the rest of the group to find a suitable hiding place.
Four minutes later!
“Zhirou, we’re in position!”
“Received!”
Zhao Zhirou and Sun Hai had already boarded an armored van. Sitting in the passenger seat, Zhao Zhirou immediately picked up the walkie-talkie and replied, “Let’s begin!”
Beep—
In the next moment, the previously silent and eerily quiet street was shattered by the loud honking of the van’s horn.
Immediately, zombies hidden in the shadows were startled awake. Growling, they began to emerge from the darkness. This situation continued to spread, causing more and more zombies to step out of the shadows, among which two particularly noticeable evolved zombies stood out.
“Groan … Groan …”
“Roar … Roar …”
As soon as they noticed the source of the sound, the rotten flesh on their bodies seemed to come alive. They frantically charged toward the noise.
“This female officer is really brave. Such a dangerous task, and none of the men dared to volunteer, yet she did.”
Inside the armored car, Liu Yuqing watched the screen as the armored van was gradually surrounded by zombies. She couldn’t help but admire Zhao Zhirou’s courage.
Hearing this, Jiang Cheng chuckled. “Brave, yes, but a little foolish.”
“Foolish?” Liu Yuqing didn’t understand and looked at Jiang Cheng with a puzzled expression.
“Look at this!” Jiang Cheng didn’t bother to explain. Instead, he had Jarvis rewind the surveillance footage by a few minutes and paused it at the moment when they finalized the plan.
Watching the screen, Liu Yuqing noticed a detail she hadn’t caught before. After the young male officer had been granted permission to join Zhao Zhirou, a barely noticeable hint of excitement and a fleeting look of eagerness appeared on his face.
Jiang Cheng glanced at Liu Yuqing and asked with a smile, “Now do you understand?”
Liu Yuqing was startled. “That male officer has ulterior motives!?”
She was all too familiar with the expression on the male officer’s face. As a school beauty, she had encountered that kind of look countless times. So, the moment she noticed it, she immediately understood!
The young male officer didn’t volunteer until after the female officer had spoken up because he was infatuated with her beauty! With the world in chaos, he was likely looking for an opportunity to take advantage of her!
Now that he had a chance to be alone with her, he couldn’t resist seizing the opportunity!
“Exactly!” Jiang Cheng chuckled, retrieved the controls from the display screen, and said, “You keep monitoring. I’m going to find a good place to set up a trap.”
“Understood.” Liu Yuqing nodded in agreement.
A few minutes later!
A small intersection about 300 meters away from the police station came into Jiang Cheng’s view.
There weren’t many wrecked vehicles around the intersection, so they wouldn’t interfere with the explosion’s effect from the fuel barrels, making it a perfect spot to set up a trap.
Without hesitation, Jiang Cheng chose the location and parked the car. He quickly cleared out the nearby zombies with his mid-grade nail gun and instructed Liu Yuqing to keep an eye on their surroundings. He then jumped out of the car and began unloading the fuel barrels from the armored car.
Following Jarvis’s suggested method, Jiang Cheng arranged nine fuel barrels around a central barrel at the intersection, maximizing the explosion’s impact.
After finishing the setup, Jiang Cheng returned to the car. “Jarvis, where is that female officer now?”
“Sir, based on the mobile signal, they are currently on a main road about three kilometers to your left,” Jarvis responded.
“Good, keep her position updated on the map and plan a route where we can intercept them,” Jiang Cheng ordered.
“Understood, sir.” Jarvis responded, and within a second, his voice came back, “Sir, the route has been planned.”
Jiang Cheng glanced at the route Jarvis had laid out, started the armored car, and steered toward the road on the left.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Liu Yuqing, noticing this, curiously asked, “Are we going to help her?”
“Yeah, I’ve taken a liking to her,” Jiang Cheng replied.
“Taken a liking to her?” Liu Yuqing was taken aback. She hadn’t expected Jiang Cheng to be so blunt.
Jiang Cheng noticed her tone, turned to her with a smile, and casually explained.
“In this world, having too few people isn’t an advantage. That female officer is calm under pressure, decisive in action, and quite skilled. Most importantly, she’s trained with firearms. When we seize the weapons and ammo, I won’t be able to use everything myself, so she’ll be handy.”
After hearing Jiang Cheng’s explanation, Liu Yuqing felt a strange sense of relief and nodded in agreement.
“That’s true. For example, earlier, if we had another person who knew how to use a gun to help you clear the zombies or keep watch, our efficiency would have been much higher.”
Liu Yuqing was well aware of her limitations. Although her stamina was decent, she was lacking in many other areas. While she could learn, it would take time.
On the other hand, the shortage of people could be quickly remedied by adding more members to their team.
And considering that this female officer was a policewoman and didn’t seem to be a bad person, having her join their team wouldn’t raise many concerns. Besides, compared to having a man join, she would much prefer another woman in the group.
At the very least, she would have someone else to talk with.
However, what she didn’t know was that her concerns were unnecessary. Jiang Cheng had no intention of letting any man join his team from the very beginning.
Moreover, the reasons Jiang Cheng gave for having the female officer join the team were only half of it. The other half was for her legs, her figure, and her looks …
