Chapter 24 - Two Evolved Zombies: Strength Type and Agility Type
Chapter 24: Two Evolved Zombies: Strength Type and Agility Type
Jiang Cheng’s eyes narrowed slightly. “If I’m not mistaken, this zombie is the culprit that drove that couple to jump off the roof earlier. And by the looks of it, it’s an evolved zombie!”
Beside him, Liu Yuqing covered her mouth to stifle a gasp of shock.
It wasn’t until over an hour later, after that three-meter-tall evolved zombie had been smashed into a pulp, that the building finally quieted down.
“Jarvis, find a way to check the situation inside that building!” Jiang Cheng instructed, pressing a hand to his Bluetooth earpiece.
He didn’t have to wait long. After less than a second of silence, Jarvis’s voice came through. “Sir, there are no human survivors in that building.”
“All infected?” Jiang Cheng frowned and asked, “Can you detect how many evolved zombies are in that building using the phone?”
“Sir, it is not possible to detect them through the phone.”
This time, Jarvis responded without delay.
“Is there any other way?” Jiang Cheng stroked his chin and pursued further.
After a brief pause, Jarvis’s voice returned.
“Some of the apartments have smart surveillance systems linked to their phones. By reviewing these surveillance recordings, I identified two evolved zombies.”
“Two?”
Jiang Cheng’s eyes narrowed. He immediately asked, “Can you describe their appearances?”
This time, Jarvis didn’t respond immediately. After a two-second pause, he said, “Sir, I have extracted the video recordings related to these two evolved zombies and uploaded them to your phone. You can view them at any time.”
“That’s handy. Let me take a look.”
Jiang Cheng was a bit surprised but immediately pulled out his phone. Sure enough, there were two notifications indicating successful video uploads. He didn’t hesitate and opened the first one. In the next second, a black-and-white video appeared on the phone screen.
Liu Yuqing, curious, leaned in to watch as well. However, as soon as she saw the footage, she was startled.
In the video, there was a zombie over three meters tall, its body packed with muscle, its head completely bald, and its arms thicker than an elephant’s legs, with veins snaking across its entire body like small serpents. It swung its fist fiercely at a six or seven-centimeter-thick security door, causing the door to cave in as if it were made of paper.
It then followed up with another punch, making the door shudder, then a third, a fourth … until the eighth punch landed, and the security door collapsed instantly, sending screams echoing from within the house.
However, within less than half a minute, the house that the zombie had broken into fell silent.
Jiang Cheng and Liu Yuqing both recognized this zombie—it was the same one that had just been pushed off the 20th floor and smashed into a pulp. They hadn’t expected its strength to be so overwhelming!
But the footage didn’t end there. A few minutes after the house had gone quiet, the zombie reappeared in the video.
This time, its body was splattered with blood, and it was holding an arm, gnawing on it as it walked. Within a few steps, it arrived at the door of the apartment equipped with the surveillance camera.
But instead of using its fists to break the door as it had before, it suddenly accelerated and rammed into the security door.
Boom—
With a thunderous noise and a cloud of dust, the walls around the security door cracked, and the door itself caved in.
Boom—
A second collision followed, causing the door frame to shake loose. By the third impact, the entire door, along with its frame, was sent flying, and the surveillance camera was knocked loose from the wall, falling to the ground.
Fortunately, the camera was of decent quality and wasn’t damaged by the fall. Coincidentally, its lens was now pointed directly into the room.
The zombie, after breaking through the door, charged straight into the apartment.
As for the apartment’s owner, Jiang Cheng and Liu Yuqing found him familiar. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was the same burly man who had earlier pushed the zombie off the building! sacrificing himself in the process.
Apparently, this man wasn’t to be trifled with. Standing in the living room with a watermelon knife in hand, it seemed as if he had been waiting for the zombie, showing no fear as he advanced to meet it.
However, when he slashed at the zombie with the watermelon knife, the blade barely cut into its flesh.
“What incredibly strong defense! This zombie seems similar to the one we saw on TV earlier, but it’s clearly even stronger!”
Jiang Cheng’s pupils contracted slightly as he watched.
“Good thing this zombie got smashed into pulp; otherwise, it would have been a real threat.”
Watching as the man fought off the zombie for a few more minutes before using all his strength to push it off the balcony, Jiang Cheng felt a slight sense of relief.
With that, the video ended.
“That … was the same one that fell earlier?”
As the video finished, Liu Yuqing finally snapped out of her shock and couldn’t help but look at Jiang Cheng.
“Yes!” Jiang Cheng nodded.
“Phew~ Thank goodness! If that zombie had come after us, we would’ve been in big trouble.” Liu Yuqing patted her chest in relief.
“Don’t celebrate too soon; there might be another one in that building!”
Jiang Cheng cautioned, while simultaneously opening the second video.
“What?” Liu Yuqing didn’t quite grasp his meaning immediately, but her gaze instinctively followed Jiang Cheng’s, focusing on the phone screen.
This time, the evolved zombie that appeared on the screen didn’t shock Jiang Cheng and Liu Yuqing as much, but it still made them vigilant.
The footage showed a zombie about two meters tall, with a body size more akin to a normal human’s. The only unusual feature was its legs!
They were disproportionately built, with skinny calves and thick thighs, and its knees were bent at an odd angle.
As it moved, its distinctiveness became apparent!
Its speed, by Jiang Cheng’s estimation, was at least three times that of a regular person!
If the previous zombie was a strength-type, similar to the one on TV, then this one was likely an agility-type!
