Zombie Train

Chapter 69: Chapter 64 Smooth Sailing

By the time afternoon rolled around, the trio finally completed their preparations and were ready to hit the road.

The food supplies were rather ample. Although more and more potatoes were sprouting, the canned and packaged food, along with the water, were sufficient to last for a week.

Wellington may have fled, but he left behind a decent amount of military rations, an alcohol stove, along with cups and small pots. So they had all the kitchen utensils they needed.

In terms of long - distance firepower, aside from the machine guns with about two hundred rounds each, there were four hunting rifles, two shotguns, one assault rifle, and three pistols of different calibers. The total ammunition was close to six hundred rounds, and there were also two grenades.

For close - range weapons, there were iron rods, knives, and fire axes. Shao Ming regretted that Li Long's baseball bat was left at the fire station.

All in all, they had enough firepower to take on a small zombie horde of around a thousand people.

They had all the other essentials like toiletries, clothes for changing and washing, and these items filled the rear train cab.

The train head, after two rounds of reinforcement, was much more secure. It couldn't plow through the zombie horde in a big city, but it wouldn't have its wheels damaged anymore.

The weather was clearing up, and the three changed into new clothes.

"Let's go," Lambert said as he boarded the train.

The train slowly picked up speed, leaving the wrecked Land Rover behind.

The railway was far from being smooth compared to the roads filled with vehicles.

Shao Ming noticed some weeds sprouting from the gravel piles under the railway track, dotting the gray ground.

With the route already planned, Lambert increased the train's speed.

The train finally picked up speed, and the speed displayed on the console screen was approaching one hundred kilometers per hour.

"Shouldn't you slow down a bit?" Shao Ming asked.

The hole in the ceiling made the wind noise when the train picked up speed quite loud.

Lambert grinned from ear to ear. "There are no forks, no mutants, and no trains blocking the way. I'm going to enjoy this ride."

London may be large, but for a high - speed train, it was just a half - hour journey.

The train crossed the Thames River and sped towards the south side of the city.

It wasn't that Lambert deliberately avoided the eastern part of the city where mutants were concentrated when planning the route, but that most of the roads on the east side had been destroyed by the military.

Nonetheless, they saw the layers of ruins along the Thames River.

The once - tall buildings in the city center had become a pile of rubble, and the few remaining buildings were full of holes.

Shao Ming felt something was missing beside the Thames River. After thinking for a while, he realized the London Eye was gone.

What's more, the Big Ben was also gone.

Lambert slowed down and the train moved around the city. Fortunately, although there were many platforms, most trains were parked in large stations.

Before long, the buildings beside the railway began to decrease. London, which was thought to be the most difficult to pass through, was actually the fastest to pass through.

The train was on a fast - speed railway. This railway was a straight line from the south side of London to Ashford without any turns.

This made Lambert ecstatic. He completely forgot about the broken window with a machine gun mounted on it...

His joy was short - lived, as it was interrupted by the other two who were shivering from the cold.

Now it finally felt like a railway journey.

The train passed through Ashford, and the entrance of the undersea tunnel was ahead.

Lambert began to slow down the train. Shao Ming looked around at the scenery beside the railway - there were only trees.

"Where's the sea?" Shao Ming asked. "Where's the sea?"

"The entrance of the undersea tunnel isn't in the sea," Lambert explained. "Actually, it's still a certain distance from the sea. You may not be able to see the sea."

Shao Ming nodded with a hint of regret. He really wanted to see the English Channel.

He had been studying abroad for two years and had been out to play before. But due to the pandemic, he had been in China for over a year.

The train slowly turned along the railway track and passed through a tunnel. A huge "train parking lot" came into view.

Several different trains were parked in it, some carrying cargo boxes, and some were specialized in transporting vehicles.

The end of the railway was a dark hole, as if a deep - mouthed monster was about to swallow the train under the hill.

Lambert said slowly, "Well, I hope none of you have claustrophobia."

A few seconds later, the train plunged into the darkness.

Shao Ming was worried about the "unauthorized structure" on top of the train. Fortunately, the height of the tunnel was high enough, and it passed through perfectly.

"How long does it take to go through the undersea tunnel?" Shao Ming shouted.

The train was already noisy enough, and the train in the tunnel made even more noise.

I hope the three still have a pair of healthy ears after these two days.

"About 35 minutes if fast," Lambert shouted. "I hope we don't encounter any blocking vehicles."

Feng Yusheng beside him silently stuffed two balls of cotton into her ears. She then handed two balls to each of the two men.

Lambert's words seemed to be prophetic. Ten minutes later, the shadow of a train appeared in the empty tunnel ahead.

The headlight of the train illuminated the tunnel. It was actually a passenger train.

The roars of the mutants overshadowed the sound of the train's movement. As the train head approached, the three saw the mutants piled up in the passenger train's carriages.

Without hesitation, Shao Ming picked up the shotgun and climbed onto the train roof.

He stuck half of his body out and set up the heavy machine gun.

Lambert didn't slow down. Because there were iron plates and tires added in front of the train, the extra distance couldn't make the train's hook catch up with the front train anymore.

It's better to directly hit and push it.

The train head hit the rear end of the front train firmly. Shao Ming was hit forward by the inertia and hit the machine gun.

Shao Ming, dizzy and confused, realized that getting a walkie - talkie for Lambert was really necessary.

The collision pushed the front train forward, but it also caused several pieces of glass in the front train's carriage to break into pieces.

Because of the obstruction of the front train, the train's acceleration speed was significantly slow. This gave the mutants a chance.

The mutants began to rush towards the windows and climb out of the train.

Since the speed of the two trains wasn't fast, the mutants began to grab the train head of Shao Ming and the others and climb up.

Shao Ming rubbed his head and raised the shotgun, ready to face the oncoming mutants.
