Zombie Train

Chapter 67: Chapter 62 Entering London

Wellington's actions caught the three off guard, and Shao Ming wore a glum expression throughout dinner.

"What a scoundrel," Lambert muttered, taking a bite of potato. "A treacherous snake, completely heartless."

"I just took stock of the things we brought back," Feng Yusheng said softly. "There are shovels, spare tires, and a few grenades in the car."

Shao Ming noticed Feng Yusheng's timid look and couldn't help but smile. "Why are you so worried? I'm not angry with you."

"Well, I saw you were in a foul mood," Feng Yusheng said, handing Shao Ming a piece of candy. "Here, have this and cheer up."

Lambert scoffed. "Is no one listening to me?"

After lunch, Shao Ming was loading the MRE that Wellington had left in the helicopter into the train when he noticed several potatoes they'd brought last time had sprouted.

They couldn't eat them, but could they grow them on the train?

Shao Ming pondered the idea of growing potatoes on the train and hopped off the train head. He happened to bump into Lambert coming towards him.

"Now that the pilot's gone, how do you plan to enter the city?" Lambert asked.

"I think Wellington's words hold some truth," Shao Ming said, understanding Lambert's concern. They were driving a convertible car with weak protection.

"Like the part about there not being many zombies," Lambert said.

"Yeah, he couldn't lie about that."

Lambert nodded. "But he could deceive us about the situation in London."

"True," Shao Ming sighed. "We should've thought more carefully about what he said. London's a huge city. It's impossible to turn it into a city full of ruins just by bombing with artillery for a whole day and night - especially since according to him, the west side wasn't the main attacking direction."

Lambert nodded. The reason they were deceived wasn't so much Wellington's cunning as their own naivete.

"Is your drone still operational?" Shao Ming asked suddenly.

"It's long out of power," Lambert said. "Who'd bring a charging cable during a doomsday survival situation?"

It was getting dark, and the three decided not to travel at night but to set off the next day.

The next day, Shao Ming woke up to find it was pouring rain. This was really inconvenient for the three in the convertible car.

Lambert was outside the train in the rain, tying the rain canopy on the car hood to the car roof. Feng Yusheng was still fast asleep.

Shao Ming gently woke Feng Yusheng up and got out of the car to help Lambert tie the rain canopy.

After they were ready, they drove the convertible car, which was both draughty and leaky, towards London.

After bumping along the railway for twenty minutes, the convertible car finally hit the road.

Shao Ming sat in the passenger seat, checking the machine gun. Feng Yusheng held Gordon in her arms, shivering from the cold.

Gordon stared out with his round eyes, clueless about the scenery along the way.

Before long, a flipped truck completely blocked a small bridge.

There was a gully under the bridge, of unknown depth.

"I'll go see how deep the river is," Shao Ming said, grabbing the helmet from the car and putting it on his head before getting out.

"Hey, be careful," Feng Yusheng said, quickly getting out of the car too.

"Why did you come with me?" Shao Ming said, taking off the helmet and putting it on Feng Yusheng's head. "It's pouring rain."

Feng Yusheng said, "The river's of unknown depth. It's dangerous for you to go down like this."

"I'm not that dumb," Shao Ming said, looking at the river. The rain made the river flow fast.

Shao Ming used a fire axe to cut off a long branch from a nearby tree and walked towards the river with it in hand.

He used the branch to poke the river bottom. Although the branch could only reach one - third of the river, it was enough. It seemed the river wasn't very deep, but there were quite a few stones in it.

Shao Ming threw the branch down, clapped his hands, and said, "It's just a small gully. It's not very deep. Let's go back."

Lambert drove the car across the river, splashing water all over them.

The flipped truck blocked the road, and the traffic behind it stretched for several kilometers.

The three could only drive along the railing. Not far away, the houses in London came into view.

Wellington hadn't lied to them. The mutants in the west of the city had been attracted away.

In the heavy rain, London seemed like a dead city in their eyes. There were no humans, no mutants, not even birds and beasts.

It just stood there quietly. This huge city seemed like an ancient relic.

The three entered the city. Since the roads were filled with cars fleeing out of the city, Lambert could only drive the car slowly on the narrow sidewalk.

Shao Ming kept a vigilant eye on the houses beside them, wary of mutants lurking within.

When passing by a clothing store, Feng Yusheng told Lambert to stop the car.

Lambert turned around and asked, "Miss, do you want to buy clothes?"

Feng Yusheng replied, "Think about how long we haven't changed our clothes. It's pouring rain today. If you don't change, you'll catch a cold. It's not like before. There's no clinic to give you an IV."

Lambert wriggled his wet toes in his shoes and said, "It'd be best to find two more pairs of shoes."

"Here," Feng Yusheng said, pointing to the front. A sports shoe store was nearby. "Go 'shopping'."

Feng Yusheng and Shao Ming got out of the convertible car and entered the clothing store beside them.

"Okay, okay, I'll go choose shoes by myself," Lambert said, pulling out the key and walking towards the shoe store under the rain canopy of the street shop.

Shao Ming held a flashlight and scanned the clothing store. The store was small but had a complete variety of clothes.

Moreover, during the outbreak of the disaster, no one would've looted the clothing store, so it was still intact.

Feng Yusheng picked up several clothes from the shelf and held them in her arms. Shao Ming also picked up a few randomly. He was used to wearing whatever he had, whether it was in the apocalypse or before.

Shao Ming noticed that Feng Yusheng didn't really pick and choose much. She mostly grabbed outer jackets like windbreakers.

Feng Yusheng suddenly saw a piece of clothing, put the clothes in her arms aside, took off the piece of clothing and put it on herself to see how it fit.

She turned around and asked Shao Ming, "Does it look good?"

"Sure," Shao Ming said, his mind drifting back to the time when he was shopping with his ex - girlfriend in China.

Thankfully, the mutants had been attracted away. Otherwise, they wouldn't have dared to enter such a big city to consider clothes slowly.

The two threw a pile of clothes and pants into the back seat of the car. Lambert was walking back with several boxes of shoes.

They exchanged places, and all of them chose clothes for change.

"Okay, young master and young lady," Lambert said, starting the engine again. "Let's continue with our business."
