Chapter 95: [Pride]
Maël was getting closer, Mori's body still holding on despite everything it had went through.
She couldn't feel its exhaustion, but she could tell in the way it moved.
She could've had a lot more luck with a more physical host, but sovereigns rarely were.
Their magical prowess was so strong, that most of them turned into mages.
Someone like that Light sovereign would've been a better fit for her, she thought.
However, with Mori, they could complement each other.
That wasn't all, however.
She saw it through his memories.
Mori was clearly the strongest at this point. He was miles ahead of the others, at a point where even if all the other sovereigns came together, they would barely match him.
His only weak point was his lower level, which wouldn't be a problem for long.
With the current state of the common realm, there was a real possibility for change, and she knew it.
As she kept running, her feet felt vibrations every time they struck the ground.
It was slightly east.
She slowly came to a stop, and decided to head toward its source.
As she got closer to it, the vibrations became more and more important, shaking the bones in Mori's body. Stay tuned with m-v l|e'm,p y r
"Really?" she said to herself.
It was another giant monster.
It was bigger than the one Mori was fighting earlier.
It only had two arms and two legs, but it's bigger size said more about it strength.
It was punching down, every time its fist hit, a shockwave was emitted.
What it was hitting was another person.
That person was massive in size, twice the size of Mori.
"Pride," she yelled when she got close enough.
"Oh! What a pleasant surprise!" he replied, glancing back while punching sideways the fist coming his way.
He wasn't looking at the monster anymore, matching its punches while talking to Maël.
"To what do I owe the pleasure? A rematch? I'm almost done here, we could have a small friendly duel."
"Some other day, maybe."
"Right. Looks like you're in the middle of something... That body wouldn't last a duel."
Pride looked Maël up and down, arching an eyebrow while analyzing it.
"I think it has potential, however. Make sure to train that body well. Who knows, you might win with enough training!"
He had a short laugh while smiling.
"I doubt it. But what are you even doing out here? Why are you toying with those?"
"It's been a rough millennium, only new arrivals have been trying to get to the top of my mountain. I needed a challenge, and just decided I'd head toward where the wind takes me."
"Good thing I've found you before you left. This body belongs to the cursed sovereign."
"Oh!" replied Pride between punches. "That's amazing, he'll probably turn into a better adversary than Jax."
"Yeah. But, there's been some change in the common realm. Powerful sovereigns have appeared."
Pride's eyebrows were arched.
"Say no more! I'm in. We're going, right?"
"Yeah."
"Good!"
He turned around and punched the monster's fist going his way, but instead of matching its strength he went way above it.
Loudly, a cracking sound left the arm, as the monsters was propelled backward while rolling on the ground.
"This was getting boring anyway," he said, turning toward Maël again.
Maël sighed. Pride hadn't changed.
"We'll use my host to get there."
"Is he like..."
"Yeah. For now, he is like Jax, but he might be able to change."
"Well, Jax wasn't so bad, really."
"He was horrible. A waste of time. I think this one has more potential, and he's inherently stronger too."
"Promising words!" said Pride.
"For now, it could go both ways. Just get everyone ready, we don't have much time, I've asked sloth to do the same, get him to help you."
"Oh, don't worry, I'll be on top of him! He probably hasn't moved at all."
"Good. See you later."
Maël turned around, walking away.
"Everything is in place..."
She was smiling through Mori's face.
She was truly lucky, she could count on Pride to get the others. Sloth was the unluckiest but easiest person to find. He usually stayed where he was left.
Threats barely worked on him anymore, but pride was highly motivated.
He never became a husk, or close to it. He had a battery that barely ever went out, something she slightly envied.
In a place like this, she could've used some of that.
She looked at the mountains, but she had little need to get there anymore.
The others would most likely all come with with little persuasion. Only sloth was truly content in this realm. The others really just got annoyed with temporary stays in the common realm, and didn't bother anymore.
"As long as the gods don't get in the middle of this again..." she whispered to herself.
She could still feel Mori where she left him, doing his thing while she roamed around.
He was somehow taking this seriously, which was surprising considering how Jax was, last time.
Not all humans were the same, she guessed.
But there was no way of really telling.
Mori was from another universe, and the way he did things was strange but impressive.
As she kept walking forward, she could feel her grasp loosening as Mori regained cursed energy.
She would've barely managed to reach the mountains, depending on how long Mori stayed put.
Now that things were in motion, the last remaining thing to do was to wait for Mori to be back and get back into the common realm.
Sudden tremors throughout the ground resonated all the way to Maël. She didn't even turn around; it was Pride running in his usual head-turning fashion.
He was heading toward Sloth, each step he took cracking the ground further than it needed to be, the whole realm already in ruins.
She looked down, and sat on the ground.
The only thing remaining to do, truly, was wait.
She smiled again, the wind was truly turning, she could feel it.
