Chapter 3: Rose Carolina the knight
Takashi slowly opened his eyes, feeling the warmth of soft fur beneath him and the rhythmic rise and fall of breathing. It seemed as though he had been resting with his head on something for quite a while. As he stirred, a soothing, motherly voice echoed in his mind.
"Master, you're awake. I was so worried about you. I brought some fruits I heard humans eat. You were unconscious for quite a long time," Izanami said gently.
Before Takashi could respond, WOB's voice joined in with her usual sarcasm.
"Well, look at you, already getting pampered by a girl. Seems like you'll pay off my debts sooner than I thought."
Why do these two insist on talking inside my mind? This feels like I'm the main character in some horror movie! Takashi thought, trying to suppress his frustration.
"Hehe… you really are one crazy guy," WOB laughed in amusement.
Izanami's concerned voice cut in, this time out loud. "Master, are you alright? You've been staring at the sky for a while now."
Snapping out of his thoughts, Takashi quickly replied, "Ah, no, nothing's wrong. I was just admiring the night sky. It's beautiful—so many stars, constellations, comets... and even two moons."
Izanami tilted her head, a little confused. For her, this was normal, but she chose not to question it, assuming Takashi came from somewhere far away—or perhaps he carried his own trauma, much like her.
Inside his mind, WOB chimed in with a teasing tone.
"Nice going, smart dumbass. Now you've made yourself look suspicious. Either that, or she's thinking you've got memory-lock disease."
"Memory-lock?" Takashi accidentally blurted out loud.
Izanami immediately responded with concern. "Master, do you have memory-lock disease?"
For a beast, her intelligence is surprisingly high, Takashi thought. He quickly shook his head. "No, Izanami. By the way, you can use telekinesis? That's really cool!"
"Yes, Master. I only just discovered it," Izanami replied humbly.
Takashi wanted to ask more, like whether she could also hear WOB's voice, but he decided against it for now to avoid any potential misunderstandings.
Instead, he smiled and said, "So, Izanami, where are the fruits you collected for me? I really mean it—thank you so much for thinking of me."
Izanami's lion-like tail wagged slightly, and her golden eyes sparkled with warmth. "I'll bring them right away, Master!" she said cheerfully, bounding off to retrieve the fruits.
After Izanami returned with the fruits, Takashi was surprised to see a variety he had never expected: jackfruit, mango, yuzu, lychee, and dragon fruit. It was a mix of fruits familiar to Japanese and Chinese regions, though their vibrant colors and sizes seemed slightly exaggerated in this fantastical world. Takashi ate his fill, savoring the sweet, tangy flavors.
As he finished, he leaned back and stretched. "Izanami, you can rest now. I'll watch the night," he said, trying to sound responsible.
"No, Master. You've already been unconscious for a long time. You need to rest," Izanami replied firmly, her motherly tone leaving little room for argument.
"Oh… I see. Hmm, that's… great," Takashi said, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head.
After a brief silence, Izanami tilted her head. "So, where are we going next?"
Takashi frowned, realizing he hadn't thought that far ahead. After some contemplation, he reached out to WOB in his mind.
"WOB, any ideas where we should go?"
The AI's voice chimed in with its usual confident tone.
"Well, genius, you should head in the direction behind you. There's a hidden settlement that might be useful."
"Master, is something wrong?" Izanami asked, noticing his pause.
"No, it's nothing," Takashi said quickly. But as he glanced at Izanami, he couldn't help but feel uneasy about how she kept calling him "Master." Back on Earth, it would sound weird and would definitely lead to awkward misunderstandings—and possibly even legal trouble.
Speaking of misunderstandings, Takashi recalled the system's earlier words about treating Izanami as an equal. Taking a deep breath, he turned to her.
"Izanami, before we start our journey, I have a request—or you can take it as an order, if you prefer. Please… just call me Takashi. Not Master. It makes me feel uncomfortable."
Izanami blinked, surprised by the request. She lowered her head slightly, her golden hair catching the moonlight. "As you wish, Takashi," she said softly, her cheeks faintly flushed.
Takashi nodded, feeling relieved. "By the way… wait a second. You can talk in your beast form now? That's… that's actually amazing!" he exclaimed, realizing this newfound ability.
Izanami gave a shy smile but didn't respond. Takashi didn't push further, and soon they began their journey under the night sky.
Guided by WOB's occasional directions, the duo traveled through the serene, moonlit landscape. The stars above shimmered brightly, and a gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers. Though the night was peaceful, Takashi couldn't shake the feeling that their real challenges were just beginning.
Morning arrived, painting the cold and foggy landscape with pale sunlight. The group had traveled through the entire night, leaving behind dense forests and arriving at a more open, rocky area. The chill in the air clung to their skin, and Takashi noticed their surroundings becoming sparse and less wooded. Eventually, they stumbled upon an abandoned cave—just the kind of shelter they needed for rest.
Without much thought, they decided to settle in. While Takashi rested, Izanami approached him, her expression calm but firm.
"Takashi, I have a personal matter to attend to. May I leave for a while?" she asked.
Takashi, feeling no reason to question her, nodded. "Go ahead. Be careful out there."
With a slight bow, Izanami left the cave, her graceful form disappearing into the fog.
Left alone, Takashi realized he also had an urgent matter to handle—nature was calling. He stepped outside the cave and found a quiet spot, but as he reached to adjust himself, he noticed something unsettling.
His underwear was missing.
"What the—?!" Takashi froze, staring down in shock.
"Hmm, that's a big rod for a Japanese," WOB's voice chimed in smugly.
"Excuse me?! What did you just say? Are you jealous or something?" Takashi snapped, his face turning red.
"Jealous? Do you think I'm a boy or something?" WOB replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Well, yeah. You're probably just a guy disguising your voice," Takashi retorted.
"Wow. Something stupid is coming out of your mouth again," WOB sighed.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Hey, why haven't we run into any humans yet? And seriously, where's my underwear?!" Takashi asked, glaring into the empty air.
"Your underwear? Hmm, I'd bet it's in the royal castle's summoning room. Or maybe in the sacred chamber." WOB's voice carried a mischievous chuckle.
"What the hell?! Why would my underwear be in a royal castle? You're insane," Takashi grumbled.
Shrugging off the ridiculousness, Takashi finished up and returned to the cave, pulling his pants back on and adjusting his armor.
"Well, lucky for you, thanks to the system's armor, no one will notice you're going commando. Otherwise, people might scream that you're indecent," WOB teased.
"Yeah, yeah, that'd be my worst nightmare," Takashi muttered sarcastically, lying down on the cold stone floor.
He closed his eyes, hoping to get some rest. But moments later, a sharp scream echoed through the air, piercing the eerie silence. Takashi shot up, his heart racing, as raw energy surged through him, compelling him to act.
"What the hell? It's not my problem if someone's screaming. I've got enough on my plate," he mumbled, trying to convince himself. Yet, despite his protests, his body moved on its own.
"That's your knightly duty, dumbball," WOB quipped. "Remember, your title is now Punisher of the Knights. You can't ignore this."
Takashi groaned. "Fine. Where's the scream coming from?"
"How should I know? Follow your senses—or, better yet, let your body guide you. It'll take you where you're supposed to be," WOB replied.
Grumbling under his breath, Takashi sprinted out of the cave, heading to the left. His instincts took over, propelling him forward through the fog. Each step felt heavier, yet he couldn't stop. Something was waiting for him, and he had no choice but to face it.
Takashi's running speed was incredible, his surroundings blurring as he charged forward, guided by nothing but raw instinct. The fog began to thin, revealing a distressing scene that made his blood boil.
In the clearing ahead, a group of male elves surrounded a female elf, her delicate form struggling against the dirt-stained floor as she resisted their forceful advances. Her cries for help pierced the cold air. Takashi's rage flared. Without hesitation, he leapt into the air and landed in front of them, the force of his landing sending a ripple through the ground.
The elves paused, startled by the sudden intrusion. Takashi's fiery gaze locked onto them, and for the first time in his journey, he felt genuine, unbridled fury. A closer look revealed they were knights- disgraces to their titles-and the female elf was wearing a battered knight's uniform.
"Who the hell are you?!" one of the male elves demanded, drawing his sword.
Takashi's lips curled into a defiant smirk. "I'm an Anchi-Netorare A Punisher."
As he spoke, a system window appeared before him, accompanied by the Al voice:
"Congratulations! You are now the Anti-NTR, Punisher of Knights. Your skills as the Punisher have been activated."
A second window flashed:
Quest Received:
• Objective: Slay the knights who are misusing their titles and power.
• Reward: ???
• Optional Quest: Reignite fear in criminals and bring hope to the innocent by recreating the legend of the Punisher.
The knights erupted into laughter, mocking Takashi's declaration.
"Anti-what? You're an idiot," one elf sneered.
Another added with a sneer, "Hey, why don't you join us? We're generous-we'll let you have her first. The front or the back, your choice. We're not picky. We're just sharing a little... meal."
The female elf's eyes widened in horror, her head shaking frantically as she whimpered, "No... please... help..."
Takashi's blood boiled, his rage reaching its peak. It felt like molten lava coursing through his veins. "You're no knights. You're criminals. You've broken the sacred code of the Order," Takashi growled, his voice cold and commanding.
Gripping the hilt of his holy sword Xuvutor, Takashi raised it high. The blade gleamed brilliantly, a beacon of righteous fury in the foggy morning light. With a surge of energy, the sword erupted in holy flames, its power roaring to life.
The knights hesitated, fear flickering in their eyes as the light of Xuvutor illuminated the clearing.
"Judgment begins now," Takashi decided
One of the knights lunged first, his blade aimed at Takashi's neck.
Takashi sidestepped effortlessly, the blade missing him by mere inches. With a swift counter, Takashi brought Xuvutor down, shattering the knight's weapon like brittle glass. Before the elf could react, Takashi delivered a powerful kick to his chest, sending him crashing into a tree.
Two knights attacked simultaneously from either side.
Takashi spun, Xuvutor carving a radiant arc through the air. The holy flames scorched their blades, melting the metal upon contact. A quick pivot and Takashi struck both with the hilt of his sword, knocking them unconscious.
The remaining knights hesitated but quickly regained their nerve. They charged in unison, their coordinated strikes aiming to overwhelm Takashi.
But Takashi was relentless.
With blinding speed, he parried their attacks, his movements fluid and precise. Xuvutor's holy flames roared, consuming their armor and scorching their skin. One knight tried to strike from behind, but Takashi anticipated the move. He ducked, swept the elf's legs out from under him, and drove the flat of his blade into the knight's gut.
"You're unworthy of the title of knight," Takashi spat.
The last knight, trembling, attempted to flee, but Takashi raised his sword and pointed it at the coward.
"Xuvutor: Judgment Blast!"
A beam of holy energy erupted from the sword, striking the ground before the fleeing knight and cutting off his escape. The elf fell to his knees, shaking and begging for mercy.
As the dust settled, Takashi turned to the trembling female elf, still lying on the ground. Her wide eyes were locked on him, a mix of relief and awe.
"Are you hurt?" Takashi asked gently, his voice softening.
She shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "Th-thank you..."
The remaining conscious knight glared at Takashi. "Who... who are you really?"
Takashi's expression hardened. "I'm the Punisher of the Knights. And this world has no place for scum like you."
With that, he swung Xuvutor, the holy blade glowing brilliantly. The criminal knights' fate was sealed.
Takashi stood over the defeated knights, their bodies sprawled across the ground. It was the first time he had punished anyone so severely. Yet, instead of guilt or unease, he felt calm—eerily so. A part of him had wanted to kill them, but he resisted, barely.
"Well, that was a crazy fight!" WoB's voice broke the silence in his mind. "Honestly, your personality fits your title. One hundred percent."
"Shut up," Takashi muttered, rubbing his temple. "I usually keep to myself, but anyone with a shred of humanity couldn't ignore what they were about to do to her. And that title—'Punisher of Knights'—is ridiculous."
As Takashi's gaze shifted to the female elf who had been the victim, she straightened herself. Her uniform was torn, but her composure was remarkable.
Seeing him silent, she decided to speak. "I am Rose Carolina, a knight of the Noscal Elf Kingdom. Thank you for saving me. Sir, may I ask your name or, at least, what I may call you?"
Takashi paused. "Rose Carolina... isn't that a flower name on Earth?" WoB commented with a chuckle.
Ignoring the AI, Takashi replied, "I'm Takashi Nohara." He hesitated briefly, thinking it might have been better to use a fake name, but it was too late now.
"Takashi? Isn't that the same name?" WoB teased. "You're terrible at this!"
Before Rose could say more, a large, lion-like beast emerged from the shadows. The creature's golden fur shimmered faintly in the dim light. Rose instinctively raised her weapon, ready to defend herself, but Takashi stepped forward.
"It's fine," he said calmly.
The beast growled softly before nuzzling against him.
"Oh... you're a beast tamer!" Rose exclaimed, lowering her weapon. "Beast tamers are so rare these days." She then glanced at his armor, her curiosity piqued. "And, Sir Takashi, may I ask about the armor you're wearing? It's quite unique."
Takashi hesitated. "Oh, you see, I'm a traveling adventurer," he said, fumbling for words.
"Traveling adventurer?" Rose repeated, her brow furrowing slightly in confusion.
"Dumbass," WoB interjected. "Say you're a beast hunter, not an aimless wanderer!"
"Oh, right," Takashi corrected himself. "I'm a solo beast hunter. That's why I wear this armor—it's lightweight yet sturdy for combat."
Rose nodded, her curiosity still evident. "I asked because your armor looks light but offers full-body coverage, like heavy armor. I've never seen anything like it."
Takashi felt relieved the topic had shifted. "It's a personal item, passed down from my grandfather," he said quickly. "By the way, have you heard of something called the Punisher of Knights?"
Rose tilted her head, puzzled. "Punisher? I've never heard of it. Though, you did mention it earlier. What is it?"
"Never mind," Takashi said, sighing.
As they spoke, Izanami stayed nearby, watching silently.
Rose broke the silence. "Where are you heading, Sir Takashi?"
Takashi glanced at Izanami, then back at Rose. "Honestly? We're just traveling, no specific destination. Just... enjoying the journey."
"If that's the case," Rose began, "why not visit the Noscal Elf Kingdom? It has some lovely spots for visitors."
Takashi hesitated, glancing at Izanami. "Are you sure? What about my companion here?" she gestured to the lion-like beast.
"As long as she remains under control, there won't be any problems," Rose assured him with a small smile.
"Alright," Takashi said, finally relenting.
With that, the trio began their journey to the Noscal Elf Kingdom. Takashi walked beside Rose, while Izanami followed closely, her golden fur glowing faintly under the morning sun. The path ahead was uncertain, but for the first time, Takashi felt like he was moving toward something meaningful.
