Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Upgrading Equipment

"Whew, this should be the last piece," Richard murmured to himself, examining the fist-sized golden blood clot before him. It had been three days since he found the first fragment, and many black wizards returning from the front lines had joined the search for remnants of the Mother Insect God's body.

The Miracle Furnace transmitted information:

[Material: Remains of the Mother Insect God]

[Extractable Substance: Mother Insect Bloodline]

[Extraction Cost: 20,000 Mana]

[Extractable Substance: Adamantine]

[Extraction Cost: 20,000 Mana]

"As expected, no rule residue," Richard noted, reviewing the Miracle Furnace's data. In the past two days, he had found two more fragments, but like this one, they contained no rule remnants.

The persistence of rules was shorter than Richard had anticipated. However, this was fortunate, as extracting rules required soul power, which was not easily replenished. If his mental power fell below fifty, his body would experience mismatched mental and physical states, leading to imbalances and decreased control.

If the rules had persisted, deciding whether to extract them or not would have been difficult.

Having completed his search for the Mother Insect God's fragments, Richard returned to the Floating City. By the time he arrived, the Floating City had descended, transforming into a ground fortress. The metallic shell of its lower hemisphere unfolded into various defensive structures and walls.

Inside the city walls, numerous logistics wizards were busily repairing and adjusting components of the Floating City's chambers, installing alchemical weapons. These wizards were responsible for war equipment maintenance, construction of war fortresses, and building portals to the wizard world. They never entered the battlefield unless absolutely necessary.

The descent of the Floating City posed a minor inconvenience for Richard. The rooms they occupied during astral travel were now beneath the surface. Before he could find an entrance to the underground, a familiar figure caught his eye.

"Sister Anna!"

Richard descended from the sky, greeting a busy figure. A group of wizards was crafting metal parts to repair damaged war airships.

Anna's eyes lit up at the sound, and she immediately dropped her tools, grabbing Richard's arm excitedly.

"Richard!? Thank goodness you're alive."

Richard grinned, "Just lucky, really, thanks to some reliable teammates."

"Luck is part of strength," Anna sighed. "I was lucky too, surviving by sticking with a senior third-circle wizard. Poor Chax, though, lost an arm and half his heart. He's in the hospital now."

Half a heart...

Richard felt a surge of relief for Chax. Such an injury was severe even for a wizard, and without bodily enhancements, surviving heart damage was nearly impossible. Chax reaching the hospital was incredibly lucky.

"As long as he's alive, the medical wizards will have him back to normal," Richard reassured, then inquired about accessing the underground.

"By the way, Sister, how do I get to our Floating City dorms? I left some things there."

"Head south to the third spire. There's an entrance on the first level," Anna pointed to a spire. "Once the Floating City unfolds, our rooms quickly become storage, so retrieve your things soon."

"Got it, I'll head there now."

...

Following the underground entrance on the first level of the spire, Richard reached his room. Some wizards were already opening rooms, packing belongings.

Richard retrieved his flesh tendril cultivation chamber from his cabinet. It was his most valuable possession, a perpetual producer of tier-three active flesh, a treasure trove for a beast synthesis researcher.

Besides the flesh tendrils, Richard had only some alchemical materials in his room. After packing everything, he returned to the surface.

With the war progressing smoothly and intelligence still being gathered, Richard had no immediate tasks. He decided to use this time to upgrade his equipment.

With no dormitories in the Floating City's ground structures, wizards needed to build their own accommodations or wait for logistics wizards to construct them. Impatient, Richard chose to build a temporary residence on the Black Bone Plains.

Richard found a flat spot outside the Floating City, channeling mana into the ground.

"Transmute Mud to Rock."

A yellow light shot from his fingertip, transforming four square meters of earth into solid stone.

After the apprentice war, Richard began valuing spells that seemed unrelated to combat.

A wizard's long lifespan allows them to become versatile.

After casting several Transmute Mud to Rock spells, Richard hardened a large enough area. He then planted seeds along the edges and poured alchemical potions on them.

Within moments, thick green trees grew, forming the walls of a room.

These seeds, processed by wizards, were inexpensive, costing one magic stone for ten seeds, ideal for temporary structures. After shaping the branches and building a wooden roof and furniture, Richard's temporary residence was complete.

Inside, Richard placed the Devourer Sword on the table, contemplating its chipped blade.

The Mother Insect Guards contained a small amount of adamantine, making their blade arms far harder than the Devourer Sword. Without upgrades, the sword would soon be unusable.

"Upgrades..."

Richard tapped his fingers on the table, his mind racing with ideas.

He planned minor modifications for the Devourer Sword.

In the current situation, the sword's shape was unsuitable for the battlefield. Its thin blade risked breaking during insect combat, potentially damaging the core runes.

Thus, Richard intended to retain the Devourer Sword's three core spells while converting it into a staff.

How could a wizard be without a staff?

Moreover, Richard's knowledge of fire element spell amplification could enhance his spell potency with a staff.

With a plan in mind, Richard quickly got to work.

First, he needed to extract the adamantine.

Richard retrieved the insect corpses from his magic pouch. He had collected seven Mother Insect Guard corpses during the war. Due to the Heart of Annihilation's power, these bodies were mostly incomplete, often missing the adamantine-rich blade arms.

"Caw, remember our deal," Ulysses reminded from Richard's shoulder. "Save me some for food."

Richard rolled his eyes. A world lord with a craving for food.

"Caw, you young ones under a hundred wouldn't understand," Ulysses said disdainfully. "When you're my age, you'll realize how precious the sensations you now disregard are. Millennia allow you to experience everything, but once you're bored, you'll find immortality is a burden. Then you'll understand the value of new sensations."

Richard smirked wryly, "If immortality is such a burden, why not end it?"

"Caw, because death is worse."

Despite his disdain for Ulysses' behavior, Richard needed his help, so he obliged the request.

Fortunately, Ulysses didn't ask for much. Out of the seven bodies, he claimed one, leaving the rest for Richard.

Through the Miracle Furnace, Richard extracted about a kilogram of adamantine from the corpses.

He was a bit disappointed.

Like mithril and adamantine, adamantine was a top-tier alchemical material, but unlike those sold by weight, adamantine was sold by volume.

One cubic centimeter cost five thousand magic stones.

The pricing was due to adamantine's immense density; selling by weight made cutting difficult.

Holding the small piece of adamantine, Richard muttered, "All these bodies, and only this much adamantine?"

"Caw, you're ungrateful," Ulysses retorted. "In my realm, a speck of adamantine makes a legendary weapon. More, and it could be demi-god tier. If you had a pure adamantine weapon, some destitute gods might come for it."

"But it's still too little, only good for alloys," Richard sighed.

"Caw, the insects just used it for coating. Be grateful."

After extracting the adamantine, Richard began dismantling the Devourer Sword. Its materials were valuable; stripping excess parts and removing runes allowed them to be reused for the staff.

The dismantling left the Devourer Sword as a runed metal strip.

Assembly complete, Richard drafted the staff's design.

He designed the staff as a short rod, the head temporarily vacant, with runic arrays neatly arranged inside the shaft.

These arrays harmonized the three core spells and constructed a fire element amplification formation.

With the design ready, it was time to craft.

Melting the Devourer Sword's parts into molten metal, Richard added alchemical materials and adamantine, creating a tougher alloy.

He then shaped the shaft, engraved runes, constructed magic circuits, and completed many intricate steps.

The entire process took nearly a month. During this time, the white wizard army halted their advance, fortifying positions, while the black wizards were assigned infiltration tasks based on their strength.

With the final rune inscribed, the staff emitted a faint magical pulse on the table.

A sign of success.

Richard exhaled deeply, relieved to finish the staff before receiving a mission from the command center.

But before he could relax, the communication crystal ball relayed an order from the command center.

"All first-circle black wizards, report to the Floating City immediately."
