"Master Regulus…" Kreacher sucked in his snot, trying to compose himself.
"Master Regulus ordered me to leave him and then took out a locket similar to the Dark Lord's. He instructed Kreacher to replace the locket in the basin with this one after drinking the potion," Kreacher recounted, his voice quivering.
"Master Regulus told Kreacher not to reveal this to anyone, not even the mistress. He ordered Kreacher to destroy the locket," Kreacher continued.
"What happened to Regulus in the end?" Sirius demanded, gripping Kreacher's shoulders tightly and shaking him urgently.
"Kreacher obeyed Master Regulus's orders and replaced the locket. When Kreacher turned around, Master Regulus was lying by the lake, drinking water," Kreacher said hoarsely, his voice strained.
Sirius's eyes widened with realization. From Kreacher's description, he knew the lake water was infested with Inferi. The horror of what awaited Regulus was all too clear.
Kreacher continued, "Master Regulus was immediately dragged into the water by the Inferi. Kreacher couldn't save him!"
As Kreacher wept and began to punish himself by banging his head against the wall, Sirius slumped to the ground, tears streaming down his face. The revelation of his brother's fate was devastating.
Regulus, despite his flaws, had been courageous. His sacrifice in resisting Voldemort was both heart-wrenching and heroic.
After some time, Sirius managed to regain his composure.
"That locket must be important to Voldemort for him to go such lengths to protect it," Sirius said, his voice unwavering.
"I believe it's one of Voldemort's Horcruxes," Ethan suggested.
Sirius's eyes widened in realization.
"That makes sense," he murmured.
"Kreacher, did you destroy the locket?" Sirius asked, his voice urgent.
"I tried everything, but I couldn't even scratch it. Kreacher is useless!" Kreacher sobbed, his frustration palpable.
"Where is the locket now?" Sirius asked desperation in his voice.
"It's in that cabinet," Kreacher said, pointing through his tears.
Ethan and Sirius exchanged determined glances and hurried to the cabinet Kreacher had indicated.
The cabinet was dusty and filled with various oddities. Sirius quickly opened the glass door and rifled through the drawers.
Among the items were a rusted iron sword, a dried chicken claw, a snakeskin, an intricately patterned decorative mirror, and several black-colored silver boxes.
But the most striking item was a gold pendant, prominently displayed among the clutter.
The locket was egg-sized and adorned with tiny emeralds, intricately arranged to form an ornate letter S.
When Ethan picked it up, an unsettling chill seemed to flow through his hand and spread across his body. At the same time, the witcher pendant hanging from his chest began to vibrate.
Ethan felt a dark, evil aura emanating from the locket, similar to what he had sensed from Voldemort's diary.
"Is this Voldemort's Horcrux?" Sirius asked anxiously, his eyes fixed on the locket.
"I believe so," Ethan replied.
Sirius's reaction was immediate. With a flick of his wand, he levitated the locket into the air.
"Reducto!" he commanded, aiming his wand at the floating locket.
The spell hit with a harsh crack, sending the locket bouncing off the ceiling before falling to the floor. Sirius hurried over and scrutinized the pendant closely.
As Ethan had feared, the locket remained unscathed. The spell had left no mark.
"How could this be?" Sirius growled in frustration.
Driven by the desire to avenge his brother and fulfill his last wish, Sirius cast a series of spells—"Reducto!" "Expulso!" and "Confringo !"—but the locket remained impervious.
Sirius, fuming, gritted his teeth and aimed his wand for a final, decisive strike.
"Enough, Black," Ethan said firmly, grabbing Sirius's wrist.
"This pendant is protected by strong dark magic. Ordinary spells won't damage it," Ethan explained.
"Then how can we destroy it?" Sirius demanded, exasperated.
"We should take it to Dumbledore," Ethan suggested.
"He would be best equipped to handle a Horcrux."
Sirius paused, considering Ethan's words. Though reluctant, he nodded in agreement.
"You can take the locket to Dumbledore. I need to go to the cave with Kreacher," Sirius said resolutely.
"What for?" Ethan asked, puzzled.
"I need to retrieve my brother's body. I can't let him remain in that dreadful lake," Sirius said, meeting Ethan's gaze.
"I'll accompany you when I return," Ethan promised.
"If you go alone, you'll be in grave danger. I don't want Harry to suffer the pain of losing someone he cares about," Ethan said seriously.
Sirius's resolve softened at the mention of Harry.
"Alright, I'll wait for you to return," he agreed quietly.
