"You killed my parents! You betrayed them! They trusted you so much!" Harry yelled angrily at Sirius, his hand tightening around Sirius's neck.
Sirius looked at Harry in awe, as if Harry's grip did not affect him.
"I admit it," Sirius said quietly.
"But if you knew the real situation—"
"The truth is you betrayed them!" Harry shouted, his anger overwhelming his sanity. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears.
"The truth is you sold them to Voldemort! That's all I need to know!"
"Please, let me explain, Harry," Sirius gasped, struggling to breathe.
"You must listen to me. If you don't understand everything, you'll regret it!"
"I know enough! Especially about you!" Harry's voice trembled, and he tightened his grip.
"I can still hear my mom screaming! Begging Voldemort not to kill me! And she was killed by Voldemort—all because of you!"
Harry's voice broke with emotion.
Hearing this, a look of pain crossed Sirius's face, a reminder of his nightmares in Azkaban.
As Harry's grip tightened, Sirius's face turned bruised. Realizing persuasion was futile, he gently pinched a spot on Harry's neck, causing Harry's body to go limp. Harry's grip loosened, and Sirius threw him aside, struggling to stand.
Hermione rushed over and kicked Sirius in the ribs, making him gasp in pain. Ron took the opportunity to drag Harry away from Sirius.
Hermione and Ron pointed their wands at Sirius, threatening him not to move. But Sirius, undeterred, still smiled at Harry.
"Harry, it seems you've made some very good friends! Just like your father and I, except for—" Sirius's expression turned dark again.
"You don't deserve to mention them! You don't!"
Harry shouted, furious at Sirius's mention of his father.
Sirius looked miserable, his face bruised and bloodied from Harry's attack. His left eye was swollen, his nose bleeding, and his chin smeared with blood.
Seeing Sirius still trying to get up, Hermione grew nervous again.
"Professor Lupin! Help us?" she pleaded.
Lupin nodded and approached Sirius with his wand.
Hermione exhaled softly, feeling a bit more relaxed. Lupin could subdue Sirius. As for Professor Ethan, who was still observing, Hermione strangely believed he wouldn't hurt them.
Even Ethan could let them go under his persuasion. Hermione had begun to find reasons for Ethan's betrayal in her heart. Maybe Sirius Black had threatened Professor Ethan somehow. Maybe it was the Imperius Curse? Or perhaps Sirius had kidnapped someone important to Ethan?
What if Sirius Black had kidnapped Professor Ethan's girlfriend, Tonks, and used her to threaten him? If Sirius had abducted her, would Professor Ethan give in to save her? And what if Sirius had taken Luna? What would Professor Ethan do then?
Hermione's thoughts drifted into the clouds. Returning to her senses, she saw a scene that made her hair stand on end.
"Harry and James look alike, don't they?" Lupin was chatting with Sirius like old friends.
"Yeah, the same," Sirius replied with a sigh.
"Professor Lupin—" Harry interrupted, his voice dry, "what's going on?"
Lupin didn't answer but did something that stunned Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Lupin put his wand down, walked over to Sirius, grabbed his hand, and pulled him off the ground. Then, the two hugged like old friends.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione felt lightning strike them, their hands and feet going cold simultaneously.
Harry felt his stomach turn upside down and almost vomited on the spot.
They were finished. The three had been relying on Professor Lupin as their last hope. Based on his performance in Defense Against the Dark Arts, they knew Professor Lupin was strong. Even if he couldn't defeat Ethan, they thought he could at least help them escape and get help.
But now, even Professor Lupin was an insider and had betrayed them.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron thought they were completely finished. The only three adult professors in the office were all in on it, all insiders, all betrayers.
They were utterly helpless. They couldn't fight three adult wizards, especially two skilled professors.
Hermione felt like she had dug her grave by asking Professor Lupin for help.
"I don't believe it," Hermione screamed.
"You're all in on it!" She pointed her wand at Lupin angrily.
"I knew you were a werewolf! I've been covering for you!" Hermione cried out in grievance.
"I only told Professor Ethan and asked him to keep it a secret for you!"
Immediately, Hermione regretted her words. She realized how foolish she had been because Ethan might have known Lupin's true identity all along. After all, they were both insiders.
"How did you know that?"
Lupin stared at Hermione in surprise. He thought he had concealed his werewolf identity perfectly and flawlessly. He hadn't expected his identity to be discovered by a young witch.
"Professor Snape talked about the characteristics of a werewolf in class! Your characteristics fit perfectly!" Hermione said angrily.
"You're sharp, Hermione." Lupin squinted at her.
"You really are the smartest witch I've ever seen in your generation, just like Lily!" Lupin exclaimed.
