Mari Kuromaki was born in GaoYue, to her musician parents, a Japanese father who plays multiple instruments and an opera singer Korean-Chinese mother. Her father watched her mother while she was singing in an opera. Then he composed a song for her to sing to, which he played the piano. After that, he proposed to her, which she accepts, then they both get married and tour the whole world for their honeymoon. 

Mari was stimulated to music when she was a child as her parents encouraged music in her home. Her mother fell ill halfway while performing with her father playing the celliol, an instrument fusing viol and cello. Unfortunately, they are financially weak, and her mother succumbed to her illness, then passed away. Mari was hurt by the loss of her mother, but her father became depressed and sold every musical instrument to earn enough money to move to QiShui to work as farmers. Mari had to juggle work and school that she made no friends until Stormfli came to her as both she and Mari attend school in Beta Academy for Witches. They watched performances in their free time and were branded witches. They became a lesbian couple until her father found out about this.

Mari was defeated in tears and hugged Stormy. 

As Mari received an offer letter from Alfea as Beta Academy recommended Giselle to admit Musa due to her musical and theatrical performances that are well-recognized. Stormfli did not receive any recommendations from any college or university, forcing her to return to her family coven as a witch apprentice. They both bid a painful goodbye and part ways.

"I had a secret; I am a witch." 

The other four embraced her, feeling that a witch can give them an upper hand.
