Chapter 12: You Are Truly Born

After gathering her emotions, Bai Fu crossed the road and approached Anya and the two thugs.

“Are you guys okay?”

Anya shook her head, “What about you, Boss?”

“I’m fine, but.” Bai Fu turned to the two thugs, “I have some bad news. On the way out, I saw your boss trapped in a dead-end by those outsiders. Worried something might happen, I didn’t stay long.”

Sighing deeply, she continued, “Your boss probably won’t make it. Could you tell me how you ended up antagonizing those outsiders?”

The two thugs immediately protested.

“Who could know? Our boss… no, our boss did so many bad things that it’s impossible to count.”

“Those outsiders dared to kill our boss today; who knows what they’ll do tomorrow.”

“Sis Bai, we can only rely on you now.”

Both of them babbled on, making Bai Fu’s head spin.

She quickly waved her hand, “Where are your other two companions?”

B Thug’s voice trembled, “They’re dead. Their injuries were too severe, they died during the escape.”

“What?” Bai Fu widened her eyes, “Pity, truly pity. How could good people end up like this? It’s all because of those outsiders.”

If she had come out earlier, if the player had been gentler, she might have gained more experience.

Seeing her reaction, the two thugs finally relaxed.

Bai Fu was still lamenting over their dead companion, which meant she wouldn’t hold past conflicts against them.

Great!

Relieved, they just wanted to sleep soundly, not even dreaming.

It wasn’t because they were tired, but they were psychologically scarred. Just thinking about what happened made them tremble.

Those outsiders were too brutal. Even when they were almost split in half, they laughed and said they would kill everyone. Old horror movies weren’t as scary as this.

“Come with me.”

Bai Fu called out, and the two thugs hurriedly followed.

They seemed talkative, discussing treatment plans as they walked.

“I heard Dr. Lin at Backwater Bay is a psychologist. We should go see him in a few days.”

“Will it work? Don’t waste money for nothing.”

“We have to do something. Do you want to be haunted by nightmares forever?”

“Who the hell wants that? But even if we get better this time, next time we meet those outsiders, we’ll still have problems.”

“I… it’s a sin. Who brought those outsiders here?”

After a long sigh, they fell silent.

There was nothing left to say. The thought of using their entire lives to heal from the player’s trauma was too much.

“Actually.” Bai Fu broke the silence, “If you trust me, I can help.”

The two thugs were stunned, “Ah, Sis Bai?”

Bai Fu smiled confidently, “I’m a Spiritual Prayer Mage. Healing psychological diseases is easy.”

That made sense, right?

Their eyes lit up.

“Of course we trust you, Sis Bai.”

Bai Fu pointed at D Thug, “Start with you, Anya, cover your eyes.”

Though confused, Anya obediently covered her eyes.

Bai Fu walked confidently towards D Thug, then suddenly raised her right hand.

Her slender fingers struck D Thug’s neck with incredible speed, slamming him into the wall.

Bang!

Blood splattered as his head hit the wall.

In the next second, Bai Fu stabbed D Thug’s chest with a dagger.

‘-5’ “-24!”

Lethal attack.

[You killed a Thug (Common), gaining 120 experience points]

Only then did B Thug react, “Sis Bai, you said you’d help us!”

Bai Fu pulled out the dagger, “I said I’d help you, not guarantee your survival. Now he doesn’t have to worry about nightmares anymore. Isn’t he cured?”

B Thug’s face paled. He tried to grab Anya, who was equally shocked nearby.

Bai Fu had anticipated his escape route.

She didn’t need to ambush if she wasn’t worried about one escaping.

Her agility matched B Thug’s at 3 points, but he was injured, reducing his stats.

She caught up and tackled B Thug to the ground.

B Thug rolled twice, enduring pain to pull out a dagger hidden in his clothes. As Bai Fu approached, he turned swiftly and thrust the dagger at her abdomen.

This was a surprise attack. He believed Bai Fu couldn’t dodge.

With her current reflexes, she couldn’t. She used her right hand to block.

Pierced!

The dull sensation of a blade entering flesh didn’t occur. B Thug’s eyes widened. He clearly saw the dagger strike Bai Fu’s hand, but it didn’t break skin, only leaving a faint red mark.

Hand-to-blade!

“Impossible. Two days ago, you couldn’t even block the boss’s punch. Why now…”

“Surprised? Shocked?”

This is the power of full attribute points and Hardened buff!

Bai Fu grabbed the dagger’s blade and pulled it away effortlessly.

B Thug saw Bai Fu step forward, towering over him, blocking his view entirely.

He never knew Bai Fu, who was much shorter, could be so tall and strong. He felt extreme fear, but it was too late. Bai Fu stabbed his throat.

“Gurgle…”

B Thug clutched his throat, unable to believe Bai Fu had become so powerful.

“Damn, there’s an actor!”

[You killed a Thug (Common), gaining 120 experience points]

The experience gap was filled.

“After leveling up the Spiritual Apprentice to Level 5, I’ll put all the attribute points into Constitution. Maybe I can catch bullets from low-quality handguns.”

Bai Fu looked forward to it.

She walked to Anya.

Two deaths in a chaotic abandoned cooling plant were common. Anya wasn’t scared, just nervously checking Bai Fu’s hand.

“Boss, it’s good you’re safe.”

“What could happen to me? Let’s go home.”

Anya nodded curiously, “Boss, how did you know the outsider could call so many allies to attack those old rascals?”

Bai Fu replied, “Secret.”

“Oh, okay.” Anya quickly shifted focus, “Boss, though these outsiders are powerful, they seem crazy, fearless of death. I think we shouldn’t contact them again.”

Bai Fu explained, “Don’t worry. They’re just expressive. Essentially, they’re kind. At least, their moral standards are higher than ours.”

Anya opened her mouth.

“Boss, we’re already at the bottom. It’s not reassuring to hear they’re higher.”

“And they’re very hardworking. Give them a little benefit, and they’ll work harder than oxen. If you smile and praise them, they might even work for free.”

“Huh?”

Anya was confused.

Working for free? Are there such people in the world? Should I try hiring some outsiders next time?

“As for fearlessness of death, it’s easier to explain. They’re immortal. They can resurrect after dying.”

The death penalty above the stars isn’t low. Players lose a certain percentage of experience based on their level, and there’s a cooldown period for resurrection. This increases with each death, ranging from 0 to 6 hours. Resurrection times reset every Monday.

This effectively curbs some players’ boldness.

But for new players at Level 1, this isn’t an issue. You can’t drop experience below zero.

“Immortal?”

Anya was stunned.

She found it hard to believe, but if true, everything about the outsiders made sense. The boss saying their value far exceeded the bounty offered by the Wildfire Gang made sense too.

“Boss, we might get rich!”

“Huh?”

Anya excitedly said, “Boss, look. Those outsiders can resurrect. We can collaborate, send them to the Wildfire Gang for the reward. After getting the money, we’ll split it 70/30! One outsider is worth 200, so 100 outsiders will earn us… 14,000!”

Her eyes sparkled.

With this much money, they could leave in a private car to the nearby super-large settlement, Lynn.

Bai Fu was shocked.

Reflecting on her actions, she felt a bit inhuman.

After all, she constantly thought about manipulating the player, but Anya had quietly advanced to a triangular trade version.

Anya, you are truly born!
