Chapter 15: Chapter-15
The battle was over, and the battle was over.
Duel Arbitration Area
The audience watched as the two starships moved in opposite directions. They knew the confrontation was about to begin.
"Look! It's the laser main gun of the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser! Fire!"
"Zhao Chen can only hope for the best. I think his broken starship won't withstand this shot."
"Look at Zhao Chen's starship! What weapons are on the hull? Only dozens of close-in defense guns and five T2 laser guns. With that firepower, how can he fight against the T2 Bald Eagle?"
The audience watched with mixed emotions.
Zhao Wan'er, sitting in the corner, clenched her fists in worry. Her eyes were filled with concern.
"The laser main gun of the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser isn't that powerful. If it hits, it will only cause serious damage at this distance," said Senior Su Lan, trying to reassure her. "As long as your brother knows when to admit defeat, there won't be any danger."
She no longer believed Zhao Chen could win. All she hoped for was that he would surrender to avoid more harm.
"I hope my stubborn brother can survive this! There's always a way to salvage the situation," Zhao Wan'er muttered to herself.
Everyone saw on the broadcast that the T2 Bald Eagle's laser main gun, mounted at the bow of Zhang Haoran's starship, began to shine with electric light—a sign of imminent launch.
Seconds later, the laser shot off, heading straight toward the Blizzard Zero.
But an unexpected scene unfolded.
On one side of the broadcast, data about the duel starships appeared, including speed test records. The Blizzard Zero, which had been traveling at 40 knots, suddenly turned right and accelerated.
In less than three seconds, its speed jumped from 40 knots to 80 knots.
The trajectory formed an arc around the T2 Bald Eagle, causing the laser to miss its mark and narrowly miss hitting the Blizzard Zero.
The audience erupted in confusion.
"What just happened? Was it my imagination? How did the Blizzard Zero just increase its speed so much?"
"Coincidence! It must have been a glitch in the detection equipment. There's no way a broken starship like that could hit 80 knots! Impossible!"
"The T2 Bald Eagle only reaches 65 knots!"
"But... how did it dodge the laser from the T2 Bald Eagle?"
Those who had once doubted Zhao Chen were now silent.
"What... just happened?" Loli twin-tailed Xue Xiaoxiao stared at her two sisters with wide eyes.
"80 knots... How... is that possible?" Zhao Wan'er swallowed her saliva in disbelief.
Senior Su Lan, too, looked on with serious concern, her gaze fixed on the live broadcast screen.
After completing the arc maneuver, the Blizzard Zero turned left again, heading directly for the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser once more. And its speed continued to increase.
85 knots... 90 knots... 95 knots...
The crowd stared at the speed readings for Blizzard Zero.
Finally, the speed hit 100 knots!
Incredible!
Unbelievable!
That was the collective thought of everyone watching.
Even the instructors of the referee group were taken aback.
It was not uncommon for T2 starships to reach a speed of 100 knots, but such ships were rare or specially modified. For an ordinary assembled starship to reach this speed—how was this even possible?
Zhao Chen, sitting aboard the Blizzard Zero, didn't care about the spectators' curiosity. He was breathing a little faster, his focus entirely on the radar, tracking the trajectory of the laser as it passed just behind the Blizzard Zero.
The distance seemed large, but according to the ship's systems, had they been one second slower, the Blizzard Zero might have been hit. While the shot wouldn't have destroyed them, it would have caused substantial damage.
"Reciprocity, now's the time to counterattack!"
Zhao Chen, suddenly more animated, stood up and pointed forward.
"Full speed ahead! Fire the T2 heavy 1200mm Devil Crocodile Cannon!" Vice Captain Charlotte ordered.
"Understood! Full speed ahead!" the crew responded.
"Starting T2 heavy 1200mm Devil Crocodile Cannon... it will take ten seconds... 10... 9..."
Suddenly, a hatch appeared at the bow of the Blizzard Zero, opening to reveal a massive black gun barrel.
The entire audience stood in shock.
Even several instructors were now standing, their faces filled with disbelief.
A middle-aged instructor exclaimed in surprise, "That... that's... the 1200mm cannon from the T2 Devil Crocodile-class medium-sized interstellar battleship? How... how could it be on that ship?"
"Get me the student's record from the academy!" the chief judge ordered.
Soon, the records were retrieved.
Looking at the files, the chief judge's face shifted as realization dawned: "T2 Gray Wolf... T2 Devil Crocodile... T2 Hyena... all matched! This student actually assembled a starship using parts from these three ships, and installed... the bow main gun of the T2 Devil Crocodile!"
Some sharp-eared students in the audience overheard.
"Oh my god! That's the main gun of the T2 Devil Crocodile-class battleship!"
"T2 Devil Crocodile-class medium-sized battleship? What kind of ship is that?"
"I told you not to slack off in your studies. The T2 Devil Crocodile-class was released a century ago. It was designed for heavy firepower."
"That 1200mm cannon was the largest caliber at the time and was mounted on this battleship. They say any T2 starship would struggle to survive a hit from it."
"1200mm cannon... isn't that something only T3 ships have? Why have I never heard of this ship before?"
"Because it had a major design flaw. It focused on firepower without considering whether other systems could handle such a powerful weapon, leading to frequent malfunctions. Plus, the construction cost was sky-high, several times higher than standard T2 ships. It was discontinued within 30 years."
Senior Su Lan was also stunned. She turned to Zhao Wan'er. "Didn't you mention that your brother installed this cannon on his ship?"
"I... I didn't know..." Zhao Wan'er's face reflected her surprise. What on earth was her brother thinking?
"Big cannon! Big cannon! I love big cannons!" Loli twin-tailed Xue Xiaoxiao, who had a penchant for massive weapons, was jumping and cheering excitedly.
Senior Su Lan and Zhao Wan'er could only watch in helpless amusement. It was clear that Xue Xiaoxiao's obsession with giant weapons had taken over once again.
