Chapter 67: 66. Aaron's Feelings
Ten years ago....
When Zade asked such things all Aaron knew is that he felt like his tongue was cut off tied.
He's been distracted in a lot of ways lately causing such trouble within the empire as Zade had to let Anastasia back up Aaron's work in order for it to be polished properly.
Anastasia didn't mind at all yet she knew that Aaron really have something that's been bothering him for a bit while.
Even if Aaron won't tell her himself she will find things on her own now.
"Do you think Aaron is serious about me Zel?" Anastasia asked as she visit Zel's mansion to have a private conversation with him.
"A Ex Vice Admiral being confuse huh. What happened to the Canada trip? Aren't you guys getting married this December?" Zel asked since this is what Aaron said the last time.
"I don't want to get married just because I like him. I also wanted him to be happy. To choose something that he want for himself." Anastasia said as Zel smiled.
"Is this about that Mary again?" He asked as Anastasia didn't respond.
"That girl is such a nuisance in the empire, She bought way too much trouble and scene in the family. Lately I see that Aaron is a bit distracted. Do you think it's about Mary?" Zel asked as Anastasia nodded.
"But I want to make sure of it before making any assumptions." She said. "Here I think this information will help you." Zel said as Rodney gave Anastasia a file.
"There is a showbiz news that Mary is getting married to his co leading man. Maybe this is one of the reasons why Aaron is very anxious at work." Zel said.
"He's affected by these news?" She asked as Zel shrugged. "That's just my assumption." He said.
Anastasia knew that this is her chance to see if what Aaron feels is true to what he acts.
In the Reyes Mansion Aaron sat at his desk, his fingers hovering over his keyboard, eyes locked on the document in front of him, yet seeing none of it.
The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the office, but all Aaron could feel was a creeping chill.
His mind kept drifting back to the conversation he'd overheard at the coffee shop that morning.
'Mary… getting married?' he asked to himself as his stomach twisted as he recalled her laughter, the kind she reserved for close friends.
Aaron never meant to eavesdrop, but he'd heard her coworker's name, Jason, followed by words that pricked at his heart: "perfect match," "great together," "so happy for you."
Every time he tried to focus, his brain conjured images of Mary in a white dress, a smile shining through her eyes a look he'd always wished she'd save for him.
The cursor blinked, a reminder of his unfinished report, but he just sat there, staring blankly at his screen.
"Damn it! Focus Aaron!" He ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
'Since when did she even consider dating Jason?' he wondered, the thought almost more painful than the idea of her marrying someone else.
Had he been too late to tell her how he felt?
After all after seeing Mary reaching her dreams in the spotlight that was when Aaron realize that he need to stop hoping for her.
He need to move forward for the sake of the empire as he looked at how dependable Anastasia is to be with his side.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed on the desk, breaking through his spiraling thoughts. It was an article about Mary.
"Grabbing some drinks after work with a few friends and Jason"
That is what Mary posted on her Instagram.
Aaron stared at the screen, his heart pounding. He took a deep breath, fingers hovering over the keys. Be there, he finally typed and search where her location is.
....
Aaron felt a bit ridiculous as he made his way toward the café, his heart pounding in a mix of nervousness and embarrassment.
'Why am I here anyway?'
He'd never done anything like this before, but the thought of Mary and Jason on a date left him restless.
What if they were truly together? He couldn't just ignore the ache in his chest without seeing for himself.
He slid into a seat by the window, far enough from their table but close enough to catch glimpses of their conversation.
Through the crowd, he could make out Mary's laughter as she leaned forward, talking animatedly to Jason. She looked so comfortable, so genuinely happy, and Aaron's stomach twisted.
'Mary looked so pretty lately even when I saw her at the Cafe crying. I badly wanna hug her and asked her why is she crying but I have to put some self constraints.' Aaron said to himself as he looked back at Mary's sit.
Jason was smiling back at her, leaning in with that casual, effortless charm that Aaron was starting to despise.
Every now and then, Jason would say something, and Mary would laugh, her cheeks blushing in a way that Aaron wished was reserved for him.
'I could kill that boy right now if I want to.'
He tried to pretend he was focused on his phone, but his gaze kept drifting back to them.
He could see the way Jason reached across the table to tuck a strand of Mary's hair behind her ear. She didn't pull back, and it made Aaron clench his fists under the table.
Maybe they're just close friends, he told himself, even though he knew he was only hoping.
Just then, Mary's gaze shifted, and Aaron froze as her eyes landed on him. Her eyebrows lifted in surprise, and a flicker of confusion crossed her face.
Mary smiled sadly knowing that it will be just a coincidence that Aaron is around the Cafe yet her heart was happy just for awhile seeing him around.
Aaron looked at how Mary's expression change after seeing him as he walks out the cafe and sigh.
Little did Aaron knew Anastasia was sitting on the other corner looking at their situation and analyzing what Aaron's feeling is.
'A falcon wing with tons of responsibility being distracted by an actress issue is confirmed just like how Zel see things.' Anastasia said to herself looking at Mary talking with Jason.
'Yet this is just part of their marketing plan on their up coming movie.' Anastasia said as she sigh as it hurts her.
'I was too late to be with him, I was too late...' she whispered sadly.
When Anastasia arrived at the Reyes Mansion Zade was at the library with Aaron as she come inside.
"Where have you been Anastasia?" Aaron asked as she smiled. "I'm here to make a report about Aaron's causes of distraction." She started.
"What?!" Aaron asked as Zade smiled. "Carry on with your report Ana." Zade said as Aaron looked anxious.
Anastasia's stalking skill is very good to the point that Aaron didn't noticed that he is being watched by her.
"Aaron is just having a hard time with all the paperwork and deserve a break for him to refresh his mind." Anastasia said lying directly to Zade.
Zade knew it was a lie though but knowing that Anastasia lied for Aaron's sake then maybe it's because it has to be her who should fix such problem.
"Anastasia, What do you think about the position of the Falcon Eyes?" Zade asked as Anastasia smiled sadly and bow her head.
"I would love to have such a big position Zade yet I want to prove myself first in such position by gather data on the Crocs and Jelly. I would like to go back to the Navy and gather enough information about this." Anastasia proposed.
"What?! That would be dangerous! You just retired for a month!" Aaron said as Anastasia smiled. "You quiet don't get it Aaron since your personal skills are not on track lately but I didn't sent my resignation letter yet incase if I can't work here I will be back at the Navy's service. All I did was sign a vacation letter for three months in notice by the Admiral." She explained.
"I think that Anastasia being at the Navy is a good move yet Aaron here looked like he wasn't happy about this." Zade said as Aaron clenched his fist. "What about our marriage then?"
Anastasia stopped and thought about it for awhile.
"I will excuse myself now Zade. Thank you for listening to my suggestion." She said and went out the library without answering Aaron.
"You must know by now on what she meant by her silence." Zade said as Aaron looked dumb looking on a same spot.
"Aaron, You can lie to us but your actions speak louder than words. You wanted Mary all this time even Anastasia knew that so what's stopping you on pursuing her?" Zade asked as he fixed the papers.
"Ahhh what should I do now Boss, I think I messed up." He said smiling as his tears fell down from his cheeks.
'He looked like a mess.' Zade whispered to himself and sigh seeing his twin brother hurt again by the same girl.
