Chapter 11
Extra Case File 11 Second Contact
“Eliminate one, and there’s another one left.”
Before rest, they must be completely resolved. Ash turned the direction of the DV Guardian in his hand and pulled the trigger towards another place.
The light bullets struck not the Final Monster, but a pile of collapsed high-rise ruins.
Underneath the rubble, another gigantic Final Monster was struggling under the weight that had pinned it down.
This was the result from V-Rex just now. He wasn’t Hideto Hayashi; two against one wasn’t always a sound strategy. While V-Rex and Ash were separating to act independently earlier, Ash kept the other Final Monster busy while V-Rex lured this particular Final Monster into a nearby building, then used massive missiles to destroy the abandoned building, pinning the monster beneath.
After the key support points of the precarious steel and concrete structures were blown up, everything finally crumbled with the cries of metal bending and snapping.
“The Final Monster (is done for)!”
Amid the轰隆巨响 of the building collapsing, the Final Monster’s roar sounded feeble and desperate. Eventually, as the skyscraper became complete rubble, the monster’s last shrieks faded away.
“Alright everyone, the Final Monster is dead. You can come out now.”
Ash exaggeratedly spread his arms wide and looked around generously.
“…”
There was no response. Ash continued observing his surroundings but saw no curious, fortunate heads peeking out to cheer him on. After all, not everyone had the bravery to charge directly at the monster in a gas tanker truck. Without an organization like TPC, and facing a Final Monster that nullified all conventional armaments, besides cheering on the Pretty Cures, there was nothing more to do.
Now with Pretty Cure replaced by Time Fire, there were even fewer people available to cheer.
“Good, seems like you’ve got the right approach for rescue operations. Keep it up next time.”
It seemed nobody was around. Ash’s words were probably a compulsion to finish what he’d started.
“There’s no one left, so I’m leaving.”
As Ash turned, the V-Rex didn’t bow its head to make climbing easier for Ash, but rather its snout pointed in a certain direction.
“Hold it! You can’t leave!”
The shrill voice from behind made Ash draw his gun from its holster, spinning the ornate weapon that could kill mosquitoes on his finger.
This was the petite but resolute voice of Cure Yell he recognized.
“It’s you. You’re late. That Final Monster was already handled by me.” Ash grabbed the protrusion on his side of the V-Rex, using hands and legs to “jump” onto the top of V-Rex.
“So, after enjoying the performance, ma’am, would you give my show a rating? After all, I hope you’d thank me if possible.”
I helped a hero guard her city while she was injured and ill. Oh, it makes me shed a tear just thinking about it. I’ve touched myself with my own story.
V-Rex’s tail swept the ground, collecting the “doll” left by the Final Monster hit by “[Re-Cryogenics]” via the agile gripper tool at the tip, before raising its tail to create a slope, allowing the doll to slide from the tip down to the body’s main torso, picked up by Ash and thrown into a capsule container in his hand.
“What did you—do!”
“What did I do? Obviously, I defeated the Final Monster and restored peace to the world.”
“That thing?!” Yell raised her finger toward the rubble.
What’s going on here? I clearly saw you demolished this building!
“Oh, that thing? V-Rex trapped the Final Monster with this, and I took advantage of the situation. The Final Monster should be crushed underneath by now, right?”
I checked before shooting; indeed, everyone in there escaped. I was being so attentive, people should award me a medal for my efforts!
“You—” Listening to Ash, Yell lost her temper, pointing at the rubble beside her and roaring loudly. “That place—that building, even if there was nobody inside, it was still where people lived. How can you let it be destroyed? Where will they go back to?”
“This isn’t my fault, right?” A clear sound rang out from the DV Guardian on his shoulder, and Ash sounded even more innocent. “Or are you the kind who’d blame Ultraman for a fight with a monster that ended up destroying the city?”
“Clearly, it’s the monsters causing the disturbances. As a partner of justice, I defeated the monster. Sometimes, sacrifices need to be made to overcome our enemies. People should be thanking me, it’s strange for them to blame me.”
“In addition, this isn’t something any of us wanted.”
“Well—at least you have repair capabilities. You should fix it.”
Otherwise, why would I be so furious with thunderous anger just because of my dragon’s glare?
If I have such convenient abilities, how could I not use them?
“You—”
Time Fire received a sword swipe from Yell.
A pure white light flashed, a sharp sword wave swept down, instinctively triggering a retreat. Ash bent backward to dodge before the sword wave sliced through three buildings in succession.
“Aah, look. Even though the neighbors near might have fled, don’t you think you’re overdoing it?”
Ash straightened up with a hand on his waist. Sudden bends weren’t good for his body.
“Aaaah!”
Yell immediately twisted the hilt of her Symphony Sword into the ground, activating her inner Future Power, restoring buildings damaged by the earlier clash with Time Fire and by herself, with all of it shimmering back to original state.
“Final Monster!” The restoration also brought back someone Ash assumed had been crushed previously.
“Precure! Sacred Sword!”
Withdrawing, turning, slashing, light flared again. The out-of-place re-appearance of the Final Monster was promptly dealt with. With a scream caught in the flare, the Final Monster was fully evaporated.
“Hey!!! —Wait?! ”
Yell turned around but found neither Time Fire nor the giant robotic dinosaur in sight.
Dazed for a moment, she realized Time Fire ran off during her process of restoring the city and eliminating the monster.
“Waaaaahhhhhh!! Wait for me! You’ll get it!”
The only lingering sound was Cure Yell’s frustrated cries echoing in the empty buildings.
