Chapter 6 - Arrogance
Chapter 6: Arrogance
Ding Dian walked ahead while Yang Yu followed behind, stopping at the elevator.
“You say you live here, huh? Then why do you look so lost? Do you even know which floor you live on?” Ding Dian smirked.
Yang Yu grinned. “Even if I don’t, at least I know I’ve lived long enough. Dying at your hands wouldn’t be so bad.”
“Hmph! Smooth talker. Let’s see how you lose in a minute,” she scoffed.
Just then, the elevator arrived. They stepped inside, and Ding Dian pressed the button for the 15th floor.
Yang Yu stood quietly beside her without saying a word.
Ding! The elevator doors opened, and they stepped out one after the other.
“I’m home. So, which one’s yours?” Ding Dian asked, dangling her keys in front of him.
Yang Yu stayed calm. “There are only two apartments here. Pick one, and the other must be mine.”
Before he could finish, the door to the right suddenly opened. A middle-aged man stepped out, carrying a trash bag.
Ding Dian burst into laughter.
“This is killing me! Hahaha!” She laughed so hard that tears nearly came out.
“Brother Wang, taking out the trash?” she greeted, still grinning.
Brother Wang glanced at Yang Yu, then gave Ding Dian a strange look. He shook his head inwardly, thinking: Young people these days… sigh.
Just a few days ago, she was all lovey-dovey with her boyfriend. And now she’s switched to a new guy?
Although he was thinking that, Brother Wang wasn’t foolish enough to say it out loud. Instead, he simply nodded and said, “Yep, just got off work, huh?” as he walked past.
Ding Dian immediately noticed his strange expression and knew he had misunderstood. Just as she was about to explain, Yang Yu stepped forward and stopped Brother Wang.
Brother Wang hesitated, looking at him. “And you are…?”
Yang Yu didn’t bother with pleasantries. He pulled out a checkbook, quickly wrote something down, tore off the check, and handed it over.
“Here’s ten million. That should be enough for you to buy a better apartment. I’m taking this one,” Yang Yu said calmly.
Brother Wang stared at the check in disbelief. “You’re… not joking, right?” His eyes remained locked on the check, unable to look away.
Yang Yu waved the check in front of him. “So, yes or no? Give me a straight answer—I’m busy.”
Brother Wang hesitated only for a moment before carefully taking the check. He examined it under the light, flipping it back and forth.
He was just an ordinary office worker. In all his years, he had never seen so much money in one place.
His voice trembled with excitement. “M-Mr. Yang… I… I… You, I—”
Words failed him.
Yang Yu simply waved a hand. “Ten minutes. Pack your stuff and leave. Got it?”
“Yes! Yes, of course! Honey, come out! We’ve struck gold!” Brother Wang shouted as he ran back inside.
As soon as he disappeared, Yang Yu turned to look at Ding Dian, who was standing there completely dumbfounded.
He waved a hand in front of her face and grinned. “Hey! Earth to Ding Dian. So? Did I win?”
She blinked blankly, shook her head, then looked at Yang Yu again.
Finally, she clutched her head, squatted down, and muttered to herself.
He just rewrote my understanding of rich people…
So much money, and he’s this handsome… and so generous… If Yu Fei weren’t in the picture, I probably wouldn’t be able to hold out for long…
At the thought of Yu Fei, she quickly shook her head and stood up.
She scoffed. “So what? Just because you have money, you think you’re all that? Are all rich people this arrogant?”
“Yes, exactly this arrogant. What are you gonna do? Bite me?” Yang Yu laughed.
Ding Dian stomped her foot, turned around, and stormed off. If she stayed any longer, she’d probably die of frustration.
Behind her, Yang Yu called out, “Hey, Miss Ding! Are you forgetting something? Trying to weasel out of our bet?”
“As if! I always honor my bets. Come on, add me on WeChat—then I’ll block you. Hmph!” she huffed.
“What?! That’s cheating! You can’t just do that!” Yang Yu protested.
Ding Dian smirked. “How is it cheating? I only promised to add you, not that I wouldn’t block you.”
Feeling like she had finally won a round, her mood instantly lifted.
After they added each other, she didn’t actually block him—though she had said she would.
Just then, Brother Wang and his wife walked out, dragging three large suitcases behind them.
He approached Yang Yu and said respectfully, “Mr. Yang, we’ve packed up and are leaving now. You can have all the furniture inside.”
Yang Yu simply nodded, not bothering to reply.
Then he turned to Ding Dian. “Since you won’t invite me in for coffee, I’ll just drop by your shop tomorrow. See ya!”
With that, he walked away.
Even though he had just bought the apartment across from Ding Dian’s, he had no intention of moving in just yet. It simply wasn’t time.
