VERSATILE MAGE: RISE OF A LEGEND

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: The Battle for Bo City

"Am I capable of dealing with this Commander Class Darkwing Wolf?" Light thought to himself. His body tensed as he stood atop the shattered remains of a ruined building, eyes scanning the desolate streets of Bo City.

The stench of blood and the roars of approaching monsters filled the air. The Darkwing Wolf was not far away. He could feel its presence, lurking in the shadows, awaiting its moment to strike. Its piercing howls echoed through the city, signaling its dominion over the battlefield.

"But, I don't think I can defeat it. I have no armor or shield that can stop attacks from a Commander Level Darkwing Wolf," Light thought. He was strong, but even he knew his limits. The wolf was a brutal foe, one that could tear him to pieces before he had a chance to react. Its speed and strength were unparalleled among the monsters that had invaded Bo City.

He clenched his fists. "To protect Bo City, I should kill as many Warrior Class wolves as I can," Light swore. The larger threat, the Commander Class Darkwing Wolf, could wait. For now, he needed to thin out the ranks of the invading creatures.

XinXia was at home with his parents, and the special aura of the psychic tree near their house would keep the Warrior and Minion Class creatures away. For now, they were safe, but Bo City's defenses were failing. The streets were flooded with monsters, and the city's magicians were being pushed to their limits.

Light wasted no time. In just three hours, he had slaughtered over 15 Warrior Class Magic Wolves and hundreds of Minion Class Wolves and Rats. The blood of his enemies stained the streets, but the battle was far from over.

A kilometer south of the safety shelters, a female magician in a bloodstained white uniform sprinted across a debris-strewn road, her breath ragged and her body covered in sweat. Behind her, two pitch-black, monkey-like creatures with grotesque, deformed bodies pursued her with terrifying speed.

"Wind Disc: Tornado!" she screamed, her voice filled with desperation.

The atmospheric pressure around her dropped suddenly, and debris from the surrounding area began to swirl into a vicious cyclone. The hideous monkey-faced beasts screeched in agony as they were lifted into the air, their bodies torn apart by the fierce winds. Blood and flesh rained down in a gruesome display, painting the scene with death.

Lin Yuxin, the female magician, let out a sigh of relief as she collapsed onto the pavement, her face twisted into a grim smile. She had been saved, at least for the moment. A nearby magician, drenched in sweat and wearing a stern expression, approached her.

"Mr. Yang, thank you!" Lin Yuxin said breathlessly, her voice laced with gratitude.

Yang Zuohe nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings. "If I'm not mistaken, those are Dark Beast Monsters, the kind the Black Vatican loves to control," he said, his voice grave.

"That's right. This disaster… it was caused by them," Lin Yuxin confirmed, her voice tinged with exhaustion.

Yang Zuohe's face darkened with grief. "I had a feeling. But no matter what we do, Bo City is on the verge of falling. There was no way to prevent this."

Lin Yuxin bit her lip. "I was attacked while trying to protect the Underground Holy Spring. The Black Vatican is after it. They want to use it to destroy Bo City."

"We already know that," Yang Zuohe replied grimly. "I was sent to find you to ensure the safety of the Underground Holy Spring."

Lin Yuxin shook her head. "I was surrounded by their forces, but they realized I didn't have the Underground Holy Spring with me. They were furious. I barely escaped by using a group of scattered One-eyed Magic Wolves as cover."

"You're lucky to be alive. But where is the Underground Holy Spring now?" Yang Zuohe asked, his voice tense.

"I entrusted it to one of the students. I believe he'll be able to keep it safe," Lin Yuxin said, her eyes resolute.

Yang Zuohe's face twisted in shock. "You gave it to Light? The kid with the Space Element?"

Relief washed over Yang's features for a brief moment, but it quickly vanished. "If the Underground Holy Spring is with him, then at least it's not in the hands of the Black Vatican. But his location is unknown. This is a disaster waiting to happen."

"The Black Vatican must have guessed that I gave it to him by now," Lin Yuxin added, her voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.

Yang Zuohe's expression grew grim. "We need to find Light before the Black Vatican does."

---

Light continued his grim march through the streets of Bo City, killing every monster he could sense. The air was thick with the stench of blood, but he pressed on. Suddenly, from across the street, a deep blue wolf-shaped creature emerged from the shadows.

Light's eyes narrowed as he recognized the figure on the wolf's back. It was Bai Yang, one of the Practical Instructors.

"Light!" Bai Yang's expression shifted as his gaze landed on Light.

Bai Yang jumped down from the Spirit Wolf, striding toward Light with an unreadable expression. "We've all been looking for you," he said.

Light stood his ground, his senses heightened. Something felt wrong.

"Vice-Captain Lin Yuxin should've handed the Underground Holy Spring to you, right?" Bai Yang asked, his voice smooth, but Light could sense the deception beneath it.

Light watched him carefully, his body tensing. "It's safe with me. I'll deliver it to Boss Zhankong personally."

Bai Yang smiled, though it didn't reach his eyes. "That makes sense."

Then, in an instant, the smile vanished. "But you can die now."

The Spirit Wolf lunged at Light, its claws gleaming in the dim light of the shattered street. Light's expression darkened. His chest heaved with anger as he unleashed his power.

"Telekinesis: Titan Stomp!"

A massive, translucent foot appeared above the Spirit Wolf, slamming down with incredible force. The wolf was crushed in an instant, its body reduced to pulp beneath the weight of Light's telekinetic attack.

Bai Yang's face twisted in horror as he ordered his Dark Beast monsters to attack. The grotesque, monkey-like creatures leaped from the shadows, their claws outstretched, ready to tear Light apart.

But Light was faster.

"Telekinesis: Double Whip Sword!"

Two tendrils of space energy shot forward, slicing through the air like deadly blades. The Dark Beast Monsters didn't stand a chance. They were cut in half, their bodies collapsing to the ground in a pool of blood.

Bai Yang's eyes widened in terror. "You… you're a monster."

Light's gaze was cold. "You're next."

Bai Yang turned to flee, activating his magic boots in a desperate attempt to escape.

But Light was already prepared.

"Telekinesis: Heart Crush."

The space energy bypassed Bai Yang's body, concentrating on his heart. Bai Yang's eyes went wide as his chest tightened. He gasped, clutching at his heart, before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.

Light stood over the body of his fallen enemy, his face expressionless. The battle was over, but Bo City's war was far from won.

---

After eliminating Bai Yang, Light resumed his mission, ruthlessly cutting down any Warrior Class creature or Black Vatican member that crossed his path. None were able to stand against him. His movements were swift and precise, his magic overwhelming in its destructive power. He was a force of nature, carving a path of blood and destruction through the city.

Eventually, Light reached his home. The sight of his parents and XinXia waiting for him filled him with a momentary sense of relief. His parents, despite their high positions within the Magic Association, had stayed behind to protect XinXia due to her inability to walk.

They greeted him with smiles, their faces weary but relieved.

"Light!" his mother called out, rushing to embrace him. "You're safe!"

Light smiled, though it didn't reach his eyes. "We need to get to the Safe Zone," he said. "It's not safe here anymore."

His parents nodded, and the family quickly gathered what they needed. Each of them took a bike, and together, they rode through the war-torn streets of Bo City, heading for the safety of the designated zone.

The battle was not over yet, but Light knew that as long as they stayed together, they had a fighting chance to survive the chaos.
