Chapter : Power System Explained
The Celestial Grid
The Celestial Grid is the vast, interconnected network of Threads of Creation—the energy that sustains the world. Invisible to most, the Grid is both a power source and a force of balance, binding all living things and the land itself together.
Structure of the Grid
The Grid is composed of Threads, energy lines that flow through the earth, sky, and even living beings. These Threads vary in type and stability:
- Core Threads: The foundational energy lines that power the world. They are stable, reliable, and essential for Sparks and relics to function.
- Flux Threads: Volatile and unstable energy lines. They generate massive power but are difficult to control. Flux Threads are often found in areas where the Grid has been damaged.
- Resonant Threads: Rare and highly harmonized energy lines. They are stable and amplify precision and control, used by skilled individuals to perform advanced techniques.
Functions of the Grid:
- Energy Source: The Grid powers Sparks, relics, and the protective barriers that shield cities from the Umbral. Thread conduits within cities draw directly from the Grid to distribute energy.
- Barriers: The Celestial Barriers are powered by the Grid. These massive energy shields keep the Umbral at bay and require a steady supply of Core Thread energy to remain stable.
- Relic Amplification: Relics are designed to align with the Grid, drawing from its energy to unleash powerful effects.Natural Balance: The Grid regulates the flow of life energy throughout the world. Disruptions to the Grid can lead to disasters like Thread Storms or Umbral Nexus Points.
Grid Anomalies
Beyond the safety of city barriers, the Grid becomes unstable.
- Ruptures: Breaks in the Threads caused by heavy damage, overuse, or ancient battles. Sparks malfunction in these areas, and the Umbral are drawn to them.
- Dense Thread Zones: Locations where Threads gather in high concentration, often found in ancient ruins or anomalies. These areas are dangerous but rich in resources for relic crafting.
- Thread Storms: Wild, uncontrolled energy surges caused by destabilized Threads. These storms can tear apart landscapes and disrupt Sparks entirely.
Sparks
A Spark is the unique ability or power granted to an individual through their connection to the Celestial Grid. Sparks allow people to manipulate energy in specific ways, reflecting their affinity with the Threads of Creation.
How Sparks WorkConnection to the Grid: Every Spark is fueled by the Celestial Grid. The stronger the connection, the more powerful and efficient the Spark becomes.
- Personal Affinity: Sparks manifest differently for each person, shaped by their personality, willpower, and latent potential.
- Energy Reservoir: Using a Spark consumes energy from the individual. Overuse can lead to exhaustion or destabilization.
Stages of Spark Growth
Sparks evolve as the user grows stronger and more in tune with the Grid:
- Ignition: The initial stage where the Spark manifests, often raw and difficult to control.
- Alignment: The user begins to harmonize their Spark with the Threads, gaining precision and stability.
- Amplification: Advanced users amplify their Spark's range, intensity, or complexity, unlocking new techniques.
- Thread Synchronization: The rarest and most advanced stage where the Spark fully aligns with the Celestial Grid, enabling feats that border on the impossible.
Spark Categories
Sparks can be categorized based on their function:
- Elemental Sparks: Control over natural elements like fire, water, air, or lightning (Kael's affinity).
- Physical Sparks: Enhance strength, speed, or durability.
- Sensory Sparks: Heighten perception, foresight, or the ability to detect Threads.
- Manipulative Sparks: Alter physical or energy-based phenomena, such as controlling gravity or creating barriers.
The Relationship Between the Grid and Sparks
- Harmony and Flow: Sparks work best when the user aligns with the natural flow of the Grid. Forcing a Spark to act against the Threads can lead to backlash or instability.
- Thread Usage: Skilled users can tap into specific Threads—Core, Flux, or Resonant—to amplify their Sparks. For example: Using Core Threads for stable, reliable attacks. Tapping into Flux Threads for volatile bursts of power. Aligning with Resonant Threads for precision and advanced techniques.
