Chapter 7: Chapter 7:" Fractured Bonds ".
Xavier's eyes snapped open, his mind already racing with thoughts of the past. He lay in bed for a moment, staring at the ceiling as memories flooded his mind.
"Sana, wait up!" Xavier called out, jogging to catch up to his friend.
Sana, the Luminari, turned to him with a bright smile. "Xavier, slowpoke! We're going to be late for our meeting with the others."
Xavier grinned, falling into step beside her. "Hey, I'm not that slow. And besides, Hunter's always late. We'll probably beat him there."
Sana chuckled. "You're on. Loser buys dinner tonight."
As they walked, Xavier couldn't help but feel grateful for his friends. They had been through so much together, and yet they still managed to make him laugh.
The group met up at their usual spot, a secluded clearing deep in the woods. Freya, the gentle healer, was already there, her eyes closed as she communed with nature. Scarlet, the fiery witch, was pacing back and forth, her eyes blazing with intensity. Hunter, the brooding rebel, leaned against a tree, his eyes fixed on the ground.
"Alright, let's talk about this," Hunter said, his voice low and serious. "We've received a tip that a powerful artifact is hidden deep within the heart of the forest. We need to decide whether or not to go after it."
Sana's expression turned somber. "I'm not in support of this. It's too risky."
Hunter's eyes narrowed. "I disagree. We can't just sit around and wait for things to happen. We need to take action."
Scarlet nodded in agreement. "I'm with Hunter. We can't let fear hold us back."
Scarlet turned to Freya and Xavier. "Freya, Xavier, what do you think?"
Freya's expression was thoughtful. "I think we should be cautious. We don't know what kind of power this artifact holds."
Xavier hesitated, unsure of what to say. "I... I don't know. I just feel like we're rushing into this without thinking it through."
Despite their differences, they ultimately decided to go after the artifact. They had always been a team, and they couldn't let their differences tear them apart.
As they journeyed deeper into the forest, Xavier couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. The trees seemed to loom over them, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground.
But Sana's presence was a comforting one, and Xavier found himself drawing strength from her.
As they walked, the group's dynamics continued to shift. Hunter, Scarlet, and Freya grew more and more withdrawn, while Sana and Xavier grew more and more anxious.
It wasn't until they stumbled upon a hidden clearing that they realized they were close to the artifact's location. But as they approached, they were met with a group of powerful humanoids, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly energy.
"Everyone, watch your backs," Scarlet warned, her voice low and deadly. "These are S-ranked humanoids. If we don't stay focused, we die here."
The team took their stances, readying themselves for battle. Sana drew a protection magic around all of them, a shimmering barrier that glowed with a soft, white light.
Hunter's eyes gleamed with a fierce, vampiric energy as he charged forward, his movements swift and deadly. Freya summoned a storm of lightning bolts, striking the humanoids with incredible precision.
Scarlet fought with a fierce, wild abandon, her magic blazing with a fierce, crimson energy. Xavier fought hard, using every trick in the book to take down the humanoids with his magic.
But despite their best efforts, they were vastly outnumbered. The humanoids just kept coming, their attacks relentless and merciless.
As the fight raged on, Xavier saw a humanoid charging towards Sana. He rushed towards her, his magic blazing with a fierce, blue energy.
He struck the humanoid down with a blast of magic, but lost his guard in the process. Another humanoid, which had been sneaking up behind Xavier, raised its fist to deliver a fatal blow.
But Sana was too quick. She threw herself in front of Xavier, her body shielding him from the blow.
The humanoid's fist pierced through Sana's stomach, and she stumbled backwards, her eyes wide with shock and pain.
Xavier's world went dark, consumed by grief and guilt. He rushed to Sana's side, his eyes wide with horror.
There was blood drifting from her chest, a slide of blood flowed down her chin. She had a fading smile on her face, her eyes locked onto Xavier's.
"I'm sorry, Xavier..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'm so sorry..."
And with that, she was gone.
Xavier's scream of anguish echoed through the forest, a raw, animalistic sound that sent shivers down the spines of his comrades.
The others' attention shifted to Xavier and Sana, their faces pale and shocked as they took in the scene. Hunter's eyes widened in horror, Scarlet's face contorted in grief, and Freya's eyes filled with tears.
The team's argument began, their voices rising in anger and grief.
"This is all your fault, Hunter!" Scarlet spat, her eyes blazing with anger. "If you hadn't insisted on coming here, Sana would still be alive!"
Hunter's face darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "How dare you," he snarled. "We made a decision as a team. We can't blame each other for what happened."
Freya's voice was shaking with grief. "We should have been more careful. We should have listened to Sana's concerns."
Xavier didn't respond, his mind consumed by grief and guilt. He had failed to protect Sana, failed to save her.
The weight of his grief was crushing, a heavy, oppressive weight that pressed down on Xavier's shoulders.
He knew that he would never be the same again. He knew that he would never forget the sacrifice that Sana had made for him.
And as the darkness closed in around him, Xavier knew that he would never forgive himself for failing to protect her.
Xavier's memories faded away, and he found himself back in his parents' king-sized bed, the soft, plush blankets enveloping him like a shroud.
He lay there for a moment, his chest heaving with exertion, his mind reeling from the memories that had flooded his mind.
The grief and guilt that had threatened to consume him still lingered, a dull ache in his chest that he couldn't shake.
Xavier threw off the covers and got out of bed, his eyes scanning the dark, opulent room. The moon cast a silver glow over everything, illuminating the lavish furnishings and the expensive artwork that adorned the walls.
But Xavier didn't notice any of it. His mind was still back in the forest, reliving the memories.
Xavier's eyes remained fixed on the night sky, his mind still reeling from the memories that had flooded his mind.
He took a deep breath, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry I couldn't tell you this, Aria, Emily... But the pain is just too much for me to bear, and I know it hurts you too, Hunter."
As he spoke, small trails of tears began to roll down his eyes, glistening in the moonlight. His voice cracked with emotion, and he felt a lump form in his throat.
Hunter's expression was somber, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. He nodded slowly, his voice barely above a whisper. " I know, and yes, it does".
The room fell silent, the only sound the soft rustling of the wind outside. Xavier's tears continued to fall, a steady stream of grief and regret.
He felt lost and alone, consumed by the pain of his memories. He didn't know how to move on, how to heal the wounds of his past.
All he knew was that he had to keep going, no matter how hard it was. He owed it to Sana, to himself, and to the others who had been affected by his actions.
The room fell silent, the only sound the soft rustling of the wind outside. Xavier's tears continued to fall, a steady stream of grief and regret.
Hunter slowly got up from his chair and walked over to the bed, his movements quiet and deliberate. He sat down beside Xavier, his eyes filled with a deep sadness.
"How did you know I was here?" Hunter asked, his voice low and gentle.
Xavier looked at him, his eyes red-rimmed from crying. "I... I don't know," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I just felt your presence, I guess."
Hunter nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving Xavier's face. "It's been a long time, Xavier," he said, his voice filled with a deep sadness. "I've missed you."
Xavier felt a pang of guilt and regret. He had avoided Hunter for so long, unable to face him after what had happened. But now, seeing the sadness in Hunter's eyes, he realized that he had been wrong to push him away.Xavier looked away, unable to meet Hunter's gaze. He felt a mix of emotions: guilt, regret, and a deep sadness.
"I'm sorry, Hunter," Xavier said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm so sorry for everything."
Hunter reached out and put a hand on Xavier's shoulder. "You don't have to apologize, Xavier," he said. "We both know what happened. We both know what we lost."
Xavier felt a lump form in his throat as he looked at Hunter. He saw the same pain and sadness in Hunter's eyes that he felt in his own heart.
They sat there in silence for a moment, the only sound the soft rustling of the wind outside. Then, without saying a word, Hunter pulled Xavier into a tight hug.
Xavier felt a wave of emotion wash over him as he hugged Hunter back. It was a hug that said everything without saying a word. It was a hug that acknowledged the pain and sadness they had both endured. It was a hug that said they were in this together, now and forever.
