Unlasting World

Chapter 356: Special Chapter I - Birthday (part 2)

The waitress and the manager came to our table and apologized. Apparently the milk they were using had the wrong dose on the ingredients, making the taste absolutely horrendous.

They ended up giving us two extra that was made correctly, and luckily they tasted… Ehh… okay, I guess?

I mean, they are just fresh fruit slices covered in high quality milk. What exactly do you expect?

We tried another dessert, and they too tasted normal. After spending over two thousand Jules, we left the restaurant with absolute annoyance and regret.

"We ended up not eating anything heavy… I was quite excited at the beginning, too…"

Manda mumbled, and everyone agreed.

"Now I'm just hungry…"

Hearing Jericho complained, me and Verida had our stomachs growl. The two of us got quite embarrassed, and we quickly looked around. Our eyes spotted the same spot, and we pointed our fingers at it.

A diner, at the side of the street. A large banner was placed above it, saying one word.

'Seafood'.

""There!!""

We ended up going to the seafood diner, and we ordered a bunch of seafood menus. Since it wasn't that expensive, I ended up paying for myself. But seafood is still very expensive, compared to normal food, so I'd say this is a good meal.

Plus, I haven't tasted seafood in a very long time. This is very special, I wonder how the diner owner has a ton of seafood ingredients. After all, sea ingredients can only be obtained from the sea, and the only kingdom that famously owns a successful ocean business is Naverne, thousands of kilometers away.

So, I went ahead and asked.

"Well, I have my own dealer that goes to Naverne a lot!"

The diner owner said to me when I asked him.

"Naverne is far, but it's not impossible to reach. I just have a regular dealer for myself!"

"That is good indeed…"

After he told me, he left me to deal with the other customers. I picked the bowl in front of me at the chef's table and walked to the table where my friends were waiting.

While eating, none of them are wearing a disappointed expression. They all liked the menu, and Manda even declared.

"You know what? Let's just eat here every time someone has a birthday! No, let's eat here everyday!"

"N-No, everyday sounded too often…"

Leony commented, but Manda didn't care. She gulped down the entire bowl of leftover soup, and let out a long and heavy breath once she was done.

She liked the fish soup, everyone in the diner can tell.

I chuckled, and stared at the bowl in front of me. I only ate half of it, but Manda had already finished her entire bowl.

While eating, my mind began pondering by itself. I thought about how much I missed eating with my family, or with friends from my previous world. I then compared those memories with eating with my friends from this world.

Those memories eating with Hod and the others at his restaurant, and the recent ones with Jericho, Manda, or the others like Verida and Leony.

As much as I missed those memories from my previous world, I also love these recent ones. Our bond has grown close enough to call ourselves family, and I'm glad that I am here with them.

Seeing me losing over my thought and stared into the bowl in front of me, the others simply chuckled. They simply let me continue with my meal in silence, while they talked about other various things.

Once we were done eating, we headed back to the academy, only to be slapped back to reality.

"The headmaster wants to see you."

We just arrived at the middle park, and I was already approached.

I recognized her as one of the student council members, technically my subordinate, but she is a year older than me. I have no idea how to deal with those who are older than me, so I ended up acting just how I normally would.

I bade farewell to the others and followed her to Veneo's office.

Inside, there is one other person waiting for me aside from Veneo. His name is Quill, the current student council president.

"Had fun eating at that fancy restaurant?"

Veneo said to me as soon as I entered. Behind me, the senior bowed before leaving me with them. After she exited like a ghost, I walked to the empty sofa and sat down facing them.

"It's my birthday. My friends were treating me."

"Oh? I thought you weren't the type to celebrate birthdays."

"I didn't. They did."

Veneo chuckled, but then he remembered why he called me. He turned to Quill, who was still staring sharply at me.

"Vice President Rize. Do you know what time of the year this is?"

Quill asked me coldly, like he always does. I pondered over the reason he asked such a question, and gave one that I think is the correct answer.

"Nearing the end of the year?"

"Indeed. Pretty soon, we will have our exams, but I'm certain that nothing will be difficult for you. However, there is one thing that I believe will be tough for you."

"And that is…?"

"Your promotion. The next student council president."

Ah… shit.

It is that time of the year, isn't it?

Right now, I am in the middle of my third semester, but for Quill and the other seniors, they are in the fifth semester. Very soon, all the student council presidents from the senior year will have to step down and let their juniors take over, since they will be focusing on the end exams some more.

Quill is my senior, and I'm the vice president of the council. Him stepping down simply means that I'm stepping up.

Usually, the step down ceremony was held near the end of the year, which is roughly… a couple weeks? Maybe days? Depends on when the academy wants it, but it should be somewhere around this month.

The two of them probably recognized my expression, and made a firm expression.

"You were the vice president for almost a year now. Despite not doing too hot on your jobs, you are still the most experienced member on the council that is from the junior year."

Veneo added, and Quill agreed. Meanwhile, I facepalmed and breathed out really loudly.

"I guess I can't really slack off, from now…"

"That is indeed what I'm looking forward to!"

I turned a sharp glare at Veneo, but he simply grinned widely. Quill, however, was emitting quite the colder aura than mine.

"That is… indeed what I am worrying about. As the VP, you were the worst. You slacked off so much.

You missed meetings by saying various reasons, just so you can train.

You ignored calls, despite knowing how important they are.

You dropped all your paperwork to the other juniors, forcing them to do work for you like a slave.

If only I didn't ask the headmaster to call you, you probably wouldn't have come to meet me at the council office.

Do you understand exactly how worried I am passing the baton to you?"

Eck…

Ghakak!! <-- Imaginary Shadow Rize coughing blood

I feel like dying...

He just casually dropped all the bad things I have done during my time as the VP, and he said them without stuttering on a single word. He truly hates me and my laziness…

Veneo who heard all of it laughed really loud.

"Bahahah!!! Never once I see Rize this ashamed before… what a sight to see!"

"I-I did some work…!"

I tried fighting back, but Quill was even more ready.

"Indeed, your ideas were always fantastic. Creating an academy expo to the people, taking part in shows on the kingdom, as well as teaching younger generations as a community project.

But do I need to remind you, that you never once take part in the development of these projects?"

"Eck… I mean… isn't the idea itself already good…?"

"Idiot. You are the Vice president. Your duty doesn't just stop at giving ideas."

Ah… he actually got me…

I am truly being cornered here… I need a way to escape.

Just right after I thought about that, Veneo stood up and stood by the door. The smug on his face simply tells me that he knows what I had in mind.

"No escaping for you."

"Oh, fuck off with the mind reading…"

"No cursing too!"

Knowing that I have truly been cornered, I let out a chuckle. I lifted both of my hands, and gave a grin at Quill.

"You got me… What do you want?"

Seeing that I have given up, Quill also formed a grin on his face. Immediately, I sensed danger.

In all my time working for him, he never once smiled like this. Not once.

As sweat rolls down my forehead, I begin to realize what I am entering here…

I'm in… deep danger.

But that smile grew wider, and it turned into a softer smile. I was fooled for a second, seeing how smooth and sincere that smile was…

At least, until he opened his mouth.

"I want you to lead the study tour project that you have been talking about!"

Ah…

I hate birthday surprises.
