Everyone asked me if I needed any help in training, but I told them I will be training on my own.

I don't really need much training. I just need to activate the dormant power inside of me.

A long while back, I consulted with Miss Malindey, who is the teacher for magic aptitude class. She has the best knowledge for magic tiering up, so I went to her for a little bit of consultation. In return, I told her about my adventures as an adventurer. Which was rather fun to talk about, because she was extremely curious about them.

She told me that there are multiple ways a mage can tier up a certain magic that they own. The most known way and possibly the one with the highest percentage of success is by simply using it a lot of times, and the magic energy will slowly become purer following the magic element as one uses it.

Then, I told her about my incident a few months back, where I lost my ability to use magic completely, and suddenly tiering up both my magics when I regained my ability to use magic again.

She pondered about it for a while, ignoring the fact that I got cured from Alfeid. And then, she came to another answer.

"Well… Maybe there is… another way…"

And here I am, using that second method of tiering up.

The main point of the second method is to not use it at all. If the first method requires you to use it as much as possible, then the second method requires you to not use it at all for a rather long time.

Due to the inactivity of the magic, the magic energy can focus on refining itself a lot faster than the first method, but this would mean that I can't use the magic at all, which means I will be vulnerable.

But, now that I have a second magic affinity which is my shadow magic, I can just use that instead of using my fire magic.

The second method is definitely faster than the first one since it will be rather instant, but it is the most dangerous one because you can't use that magic or else the method will fail. And while it is faster, it will still take a long time to tier up, especially when it's a King tier.

And now, it has been around two months since I last used my fire magic.

Which means… It should be any time now.

If I activated my fire magic now, would it be the usual green or will it be the blue flames? The gamble is real, here.

If I use it now and it's still the Knight tier, then all that time I have been waiting will be wasted. Two months will be wasted.

On the other hand, if it's blue…

Right now, I am meditating on top of the cliff at the training ground. No one else is here besides me. Everyone else is a little busy with their fun days at the academy. Currently the second and third years are having their final battle arena, and they are probably watching that.

I excused myself so I can train for the battle tomorrow. But in reality, I'm just meditating.

Because… It is exactly what I needed.

I kept on focusing my energy and forcefully and continuously refining it, removing all the stains from it and pouring bit by bit into my right hand. Because once I grasp the new ability, I can use it like an everyday thing.

I just needed to activate it once… but it was never that easy.

Tiering up is extremely difficult, but once it has tiered up, it can be used like moving your own muscles.

While closing my eyes I took another deep breath and kept on pressuring my magic energy. More and more refined pure magic energy kept stacking on my right hand. And once my whole palm has been enchanted with pure magic energy, I opened my eyes and prayed.

Please... 

Don't make the last two months wasted…

I lifted my right hand up, and I imagined creating a simple fireball above my hand.

Light appears above it, showing me the color of the flames.

"All right, people!! Let's begin the final battle for the first year's battle arena!!!"

The commentator loudly announced, and the stupid amount of the entire crowd went insanely wild.

Right now, we are at a large arena in the middle of the city, the same one that was used for the battle royale event a few months ago. The academy borrowed the arena for the entire day and moved the whole event here.

As for the reason, the headmaster is very certain that the battle between me and Arfius will definitely completely annihilate the academy's already gigantic gymnasium.

So he went ahead and rented a larger arena.

This arena is the exact same arena as the battle royale event a while ago. There's just no trees around, and just a simple flat dirt ground, so it's quite hard to recognize it at first.

And bloody hell is it close with the academy…

Back when the battle royale event, the carriages were intentionally going through the furthest path, while the students were going using a much shorter path, which is merely a few hundred meters from the academy.

Thinking about that made me pissed. Why so much work just to travel, that time?

This arena is around four times larger than the gymnasium. It's just a full flat land with rather strong dirt as the ground material. It is at least a hundred meters in diameter and there's a seven meters tall wall separating the ground and the spectators seat above it.

The ceiling is closed, but the wind circulation here isn't that hard to breathe on. While there are so many students on the spectators' seats, there are still a bunch of empty seats left.

On the far north, there's a giant green box for the commentators and above it is the room for the VIP. I'm guessing the headmaster is sitting there, because I can feel some powerful presence there. 

No, there's two…

Whatever. 

I turned my gaze back to the gate in front of me, waiting to be opened and letting the gladiators out. Inside the gate, I am simply sitting down on the ground, leaning to the wall. I placed my right hand above my right foot's knee, and I waited so incredibly patiently.

They allowed us to wear any battle uniform, like a battle suit or something. They don't allow armors since those do give advantages, but just battle clothing is fine.

Which is why I'm wearing my adventurer set.

These clothes… how nostalgic.

A loud sound came from the arena, far beyond the gate.

Looks like it's starting…

As I waited, I could hear the commentator going crazy about the introduction, and no one is stopping her from doing that.

"Now then, let's begin with our main guy!!"

The commentator announced as the gate right across the arena opened. The crowd cheered as a person exited the gate.

Arfius stepped out of his gate into the spotlight, wearing full battle clothes that he probably got outside of the academy. His clothes looks to be a battle mage's outfit that is easy to move in and has this long robe-like cloth beneath the butt.

Not gonna lie, in that outfit, he does look important.

"There he is, folks! The handsome, the strong, and the one and only, Arfius Polaris!!!

The currently known champion of the first years, since he scored full marks on the entrance test!

The genius son of the arch-mage, who is able to use magic at a young age of four. He was known to be the most talented magician among anyone in his generation, that even among the second and third years, no one is better than him!!

He is a tri-magician, with the ability to use three destruction magic. Lightning, Wind, and Ice. And every single one of his magic is already a Knight tier!

He is currently the widely known most powerful student in the academy, regardless of any year. Even the top students in the second and third year are afraid of him!!

He was able to fight the headmaster head on during the entrance test and ended in a tie! He truly is the genius in our generation!!-"

Wow, that is one long introduction…

Arfius was indeed well known for his genius talents and strength, and everyone loved him for his handsome face. But somehow the commentator forgot to mention his ego.

Heheh... I wonder what my introduction will be…

After a long introduction, Arfius arrived at the center of the arena, being cheered crazily by the spectators. I can hear most of them are girls, and I guess he is quite popular within the females.

"And on the other side, is his challenger, Rize Violet!!"

The announcement arrives at the perfect time that the gate opens.

Slowly, I stood back up and turned towards the gate.

"Welp, here we go."

I stretched my body a little bit before I walked out of the gate. And once I'm done, I take the first step.
