Chapter 199 Coordination
While Yun Que, Bliss Bird, and Ouroboros Serpent launched their attacks, Ma Lu opened his travel bag again and took out the gas cartridge stove and gas canister he had purchased earlier.
He mounted the gas canister onto the stove, lit it, and then dragged over the Energized Plant that had just been killed, breaking off a piece to roast over the flame.
It wasn't because he was hungry and suddenly fancied vegetable kebabs.
In fact, this was knowledge Ma Lu had gained from the last battle—Energized Plants emitted strange energy fluctuations when roasted over a flame.
These energy fluctuations would be detected by other nearby Energized Plants.
He was now using this characteristic to attract other Energized Plants in the vicinity.
Since the stone couldn't be moved once placed, Ma Lu certainly wouldn't be satisfied with just dealing with the few vegetables nearby.
No sooner had he started roasting the piece of zucchini than there was a stir in the clinic building of the hospital; this time, seven Energized Plants rushed out at once, and three more from the supermarket across the street were also drawn over.
And this was just the beginning; more Energized Plants started to gather around.
Yun Que and her group had already killed the three Energized Plants by the stone, but seeing more and more of them surrounding them, they couldn't help but become nervous.
Yun Que said to Ma Lu, "Sir Knight, that's enough, that's enough, stop roasting, or we won't be able to handle them soon."
As if to prove her point, a soybean whizzed past her ear shortly afterward.
Yun Que quickly ducked down, while Ma Lu glanced down and saw that there were already twenty or thirty Energized Plants gathered under the stone.
And a swinging squash had quietly laid one of its vines on the stone platform without anyone noticing how it had managed to climb up the slick stone wall.
But Ma Lu wasn't worried about it; the Hellhound was specifically designed for this type of situation.
The purple-haired girl had been crouching on the stone for quite a while, only able to watch Yun Que and the others take action, bored nearly to the point of growing mold. She had finally found an opponent and her eyes were nearly glowing green with excitement.
So, Ma Lu didn't cut the vine, allowing the swinging squash to use a swinging motion to hoist itself up.
The Hellhound, newly equipped and bolstered by the Army-breaking Formation, took only two strikes to deal with the elongated squash that still had a small yellow flower on its head.
Ma Lu continued roasting for another seven minutes before finally moving the zucchini, which had started to emit a delicious aroma, off the gas cartridge stove.
By then, the number of Energized Plants under the stone had surpassed fifty, causing Yun Que's scalp to tingle at the sight. She knew that if she carelessly fell down there, she would certainly lose her life, prompting her to unconsciously take half a step back.
At this point, they didn't need to aim carefully; firing at random was sure to hit a target.
However, the sheer number of Energized Plants indeed increased the pressure on the Witches, even if most of the enemies below couldn't climb up the smooth boulder, many of them still had long-range attack capabilities.
Even as Yun Que and the others were careful to dodge, they all still lost some health points.
So, Ma Lu simply planted the Recovery Banner as well.
According to the system's rules, only one type of Virtual Item could be used in a cell; for example, the Recovery Banner and the Assault Banner couldn't be used at the same time.
But virtual items could be used in conjunction with real physical items like stones, and soon the witches' HP began to slowly recover.
However, the crisis was far from over. Even though Ma Lu had put away the segment of zucchini, there were still Energized Plants coming from all directions; they must have sensed the energy fluctuations earlier.
Even the usually brazen Hellhound looked solemn as he faced the swarming enemies, telling Ma Lu, "Hey, haven't you taken this a bit too far? Hope you can still wrap this up."
"It's not too much," Ma Lu said. "I still have a secret weapon."
"Secret weapon?" The purple-haired girl looked around before confidently pointing to her nose and saying, "Are you talking about me?"
"Of course not," Ma Lu gestured to the Ouroboros Serpent with his chin.
"Me?" The Ouroboros Serpent was surprised. "But I only know the Magic Water Bullet spell. I can handle one or two enemies, but there are too many Energized Plants below."
"Isn't it great that there are many? I recall that the range of the Acid Rain Spell is a circle with a fifteen-meter diameter, which is perfect for this situation."
"But I... I don't know the Acid Rain Spell," the Ouroboros Serpent said with a wry smile.
"I don't have the same talent as the Hellhound or the Bliss Bird. It took me a long time just to learn basic magic like the Magic Water Bullet. High-level spells like the Acid Rain Spell, I could only dream of mastering, but... "
As someone who was also at the bottom, Yun Que could totally relate and nodded vigorously, "That's right, that's right. I'm the same. Every time I try to work hard, I feel sleepy; Sir Knight, please don't push Serpent too hard."
"Children shouldn't interrupt when adults are talking; go back to playing with your shotgun," Ma Lu retorted.
Yun Que uttered an "oh," turned her head back to the battle, but kept one ear up, listening to the conversation here.
Ma Lu looked at the Ouroboros Serpent. "Why do you think I chose you?"
"Because I'm the most eager?" The Ouroboros Serpent was still smiling, but the smile now seemed a bit forced.
"No, it's because you have four skills: Magic Water Bullet, Acid Rain Spell, Water Elemental Summoning, and Giant Wave Spell."
Ma Lu rattled off a list of dishes to the Ouroboros Serpent, and that smile on her face could not hold any longer.
Anyone would find it hard to smile upon having their secrets exposed, especially when the Ouroboros Serpent thought hers were well-hidden.
And Ma Lu wasn't finished, "Moreover, your Sin Value limit is particularly high, much higher than your peers, which means you can cast skills far more often than an average witch. Interestingly, just like your skills, you have chosen to keep this hidden as well."
Ouroboros Serpent felt all her body hair stand on end; despite being clothed, she felt as if she stood naked in front of Ma Lu.
Danger flickered in her eyes, but the cold touch of the Ring of Order around her neck made her calm down.
And most importantly, based on her observations along the way, Ma Lu and the three witches under his command had a very good relationship. If she acted out now, the Hellhound and the others would definitely not be on her side.
So in the end, the Ouroboros Serpent just stood there and did nothing, "What exactly do you want me to do?"
"Simple," Ma Lu said. "As I've said earlier, follow my command." He pointed to the Energized Plants below. "Go on, cast the Acid Rain Spell to deal with them. The rest of us will protect you and ensure your spellcasting isn't interrupted."
The Ouroboros Serpent looked at Ma Lu again, and this time, she did not make any more excuses. She raised the Meteor Staff in her hands and began to chant.
