Trillionaire's Slice of Life

Chapter 424: The Path of Life and Death_2

The other party got back on the bike again, shouting anxiously:

"Go...!"

Chu Mo cast a final glance over his shoulder at the situation behind him, where a group of bodyguards, also on bicycles, had reentered the crowd, blocking the gang of ruffians using various methods.

Chu Mo pedaled his bike away from the intersection at breakneck speed, heading towards the Sunshine Residence where he had lived for three years; he had an intimate knowledge of the local terrain and was considering leading the pursuer into the complex when the roar of motorcycles suddenly burst from behind him.

Turning his head, he saw more than a dozen figures on motorcycles swinging clubs and chasing after him.

These people were not his bodyguards, and at that moment, most of his bodyguards were blocking the gangsters behind them and no one was catching up. Chu Mo had never expected that those chasing the pony-tailed girl weren't just the gangsters behind them but also a large group of motorcycle riders.

It was too late for regrets now, if he didn't want to be caught by the dozen or so motorcycles behind him and get a severe beating, he had no choice but to race forward desperately.

"What kind of trouble have you, a young girl, managed to get into??"

He managed to ask just that before the motorcycles got even closer, and it seemed they were about to catch up. Chu Mo's bike swerved sharply, and in an instant, he turned from the wide road onto a narrow path.

Just as the motorcycles behind were about to catch up, Chu Mo suddenly made a U-turn. They couldn't adjust their direction in time and roared past him, but the cursing did not stop for a moment.

Having just gained some distance from the motorcycle gangsters, Chu Mo realized in his haste he had taken a random path. As the bike entered the alley, he discovered that the road ahead was blocked by three parked cars, leaving no space for the bike to pass.

He slammed the brakes, stopping just short of hitting the three vehicles, and the shouts from behind drew near once more. Without daring to delay, Chu Mo dropped his bike to the ground, grabbed the pale girl's hand behind him, and the two started running wildly ahead.

'Zzz...!'

Behind them was a series of sounds of motorcycles making emergency stops, followed by an angry voice that bellowed from afar:

"Bastard, keep running, once I catch you, I'll break one of your legs! I want to see just how fast you can run."

Chu Mo, blindly rushing ahead, heard the angry voice behind him clearly, telling him that if he were caught now, the chasers would likely not give him any chance to call for help and would disable him on the spot.

If he actually had his leg broken by them, even if he were to execute all those gangsters later, he would still be filled with regret.

He didn't believe they would give him a chance to explain, so at the very least, for now, he had to escape their pursuit. Once his bodyguards arrived, a dozen or so gangsters wouldn't be a match.

The girl whose wrist he was holding likely wasn't very old; under the streetlight at the head of the alley, Chu Mo finally saw her youthful face, truly as the short-haired bodyguard had said, she appeared to be no more than sixteen or seventeen, probably a high school student!

At this moment, Chu Mo really wanted to ask her why she, a high school student with studies so pressing, wasn't focusing on her studies and striving for a good university instead of getting involved with society's troublemakers. Considering the situation with the chasing mob behind them shouting and baying for blood, she likely stirred up some major trouble.

Of course, Chu Mo didn't have much energy to run anymore, he was panting heavily. If he hadn't been working hard to enhance his physical fitness, he would have collapsed already.

However, even though Chu Mo's physical strength had increased significantly, the effort from pedaling earlier had taken too much out of him. Now his legs were so weak that with every step he took, his lungs felt like they were about to burst from the pain and even breathing through his inflamed airways caused a searing pain.

As for the girl beside him, she had already been chased by a gang of thugs to the point of exhaustion before she met Chu Mo. Now, the only reason she could still run was probably due to fear, desperately squeezing out the last bit of her potential.

Unlike the utterly exhausted Chu Mo and the little girl, the thugs chasing them were all riding motorcycles. Their physical strength had hardly been depleted. Comparing the two, the distance that had originally been between them was now rapidly closing. As for being caught, it was probably just a matter of one minute.

"I...I can't do it anymore... if I keep running, my lungs... my lungs are going to burst... Just run by yourself!"

The girl, whose complexion had gone from pale to red and was drenched in sweat, gasped for air as she spoke. The gang of thugs was only a few hundred meters behind them. She had reached her limit; she desperately gasped for air while reluctantly letting go of Chu Mo's hand, as if she couldn't bear to take another step.

"Keep running...!"

Chu Mo managed to utter only a few words before his lungs felt like they were about to explode with discomfort. He gasped heavily and turned to look back at the relentless crowd chasing them. Regrettably, among those thugs, he saw no sign of his own bodyguards.

Although he had dozens of bodyguards, only about a dozen of them could ride bikes. They had deliberately crashed their bikes earlier to block the first wave of thugs, not foreseeing that another group on motorcycles was also pursuing the girl.

Because of this, the bodyguards missed the chance to support them immediately. By the time they realized what was happening, Chu Mo had already darted into an alleyway.

At that moment, Chu Mo regretted why he had opted for a bicycle and even more, why he tried to play the hero. He could have had a bodyguard bring the little girl to his side with just an order, but he chose to be a hero, and now he was in deep trouble.

Watching the gang of thugs brandishing clubs and chasing after him, Chu Mo gave up any thought of reasoning with them to buy time. He took deep breaths and once again grabbed the girl's hand, running forward with all his might while hoarsely saying:

"If we get caught... both of us are done for... do you want to be tortured by them... it will probably be worse than death!"

The girl behind him didn't speak. She just clenched her teeth and, as if putting her life on the line, let Chu Mo drag her forward as they ran.

However, such an escape was doomed not to get them out of danger. The shouts behind them grew louder, and just as Chu Mo was burying his head and sprinting, the girl beside him suddenly pulled him towards another alley, which was even darker than the one in front of them.

Without hesitation, Chu Mo immediately turned the corner following the girl's pull, and they both ran towards the pitch-black alley. Soon, they faced two forks in the road with no time to carefully choose which path to take. Just as Chu Mo was about to instinctively take one dark fork, he noticed the girl beside him suddenly broke free from his grip.

Then, in front of Chu Mo's widened eyes, the girl quickly took off her jacket and threw it towards the other fork in the road, then, before Chu Mo could react, she pulled him towards the dark alley.

As the noisy footsteps approached the alley entrance, the girl who had been running with Chu Mo suddenly stopped, and the two of them leaned against the wall at the side of the pitch-black alley, pressing their bodies tightly against it.

It was only a moment before a large group of figures appeared in front of them.

"They ran in this direction, brothers, Sea Brother has promised a handsome reward if we catch that girl, and if she gets away, none of us will get off easy tonight. Move it!"

"Zhao Brother, we had already caught her, but then some damn kid appeared out of nowhere. After we catch him, how shall we deal with him?"

"Didn't I just say, no second words, chop off one of his legs directly, let him learn that playing hero isn't easy these days."
