Travel To A Primitive World To Build Infrastructure

Chapter 14 - Moving to the new camp!

Chapter 14

Using the water quality detector Yang Yi bought from his system shop, he detected that the groundwater was drinkable. It was naturally weak alkaline water. It was potable, but just had a bit of trouble regarding having heavy metal levels, being a bit hard, and so on.

The water quality wasn’t what made Yang Yi completely relieved. He led them to the new camp ground to prepare it for settling down.

The new place had a lot of vegetation. If they wanted to quickly clear the ground, the best way was to burn them.

By burning the vegetation, not only would the plant ash make the land more fertile, but would also drive poisonous snakes and ants away. It could build a good soil base for future planting and building.

However, the vegetation was lush, so they had to create a fire barrier to prevent the fire from spreading beyond their scope of control. Otherwise, it will be very troublesome if they accidentally burned down the entire forest.

There weren’t too many people in the tribe at this point, but the land Yang Yi wanted to prepare wasn’t small.

On one hand, they can drive away the hidden beasts and poisonous snakes. On the other hand, it’s preparation for developing this land.

But it’s not of immediate concern to expand the territory. They could realize the plan by breaking it down into several steps. First, they needed to open a place for temporary living, and then plan for expansions.

Time to time, they marked a small patch of land to create the fire barrier, and then gradually burned the patches of land, which helped avoid the fire from spreading.

Yang Yi took out some sickle heads. Last night, he asked the tribesmen to make the handles using some hardwood.

Everyone was no longer surprised when he conjured strange things from time to time. Moreover, they didn’t ask him about where he got them, which made Yang Yi loosen up.

Yang Yi didn’t want to delay the development due to his excessive caution either.

They had to do everything from scratch. Not only were they fighting with nature, they also had to race against time.

After procuring appropriate tools, their work efficiency increased. They soon parted a place to burn and followed to open up another.

“Oracle, drink some water.” Mao handed some cooled boiled water to Yang Yi.

At first, he didn’t allow small children like Mao to be brought here, but the little monkey wouldn’t stop tailing Yang Yi.

Since the road wasn’t that dangerous and Mao had enough physical strength, Yang Yi let him be.

Yang Yi had a lot of prestige now, so he told everyone that they must drink boiled water unless they didn’t have immediate access to it. Although it was a little troublesome, everyone obeyed his orders.

As soon as he arrived, they began to boil water that was fetched from the well using the aluminum bucket. They then soaked it in the well to cool down. Everyone was allowed to drink from it as per their convenience.

“Thank you.” Yang Yi smiled and touched Mao’s head.

Everyone else was working in full swing. Even Mao found the chance to actively help others, thus the most easy going was Yang Yi.

It’s not that Yang Yi didn’t want to lower himself, but rather his physical power and ability didn’t support him to do such heavy work.

At first, he taught others how to use the sickle, but in the end, everyone was better at using it than him.

He worked too slow and had a great gap compared to others. In the end, not only was he unable to do anything to help others, but he also held the team back and even got his finger cut from the weeds.

So Yang Yi directly gave the sickle to others and let them play the biggest role using this sickle. He no longer tried to pickle himself. Then, he began to survey and plan the surroundings.

Although there were not many people, everything still needed reasonable arrangements.

How to build the houses and where to build them, how to ensure defense, and planning the farmland. Everything needed to be carefully considered.

They may still be at the starting stage of his one million people civilization, but only by building the base well could they can develop and grow more smoothly in the future.

Although Yang Yi gave up the goal of getting one million people together, he still wanted the tribe to grow stronger.

He wanted the tribe to grow stronger not only for the sake of increased safety, but also to support the inherent ambition of men to constantly improve.

“You say that the temperature will get hotter and hotter from now on?” Yang Yi asked.

Jiao nodded. “Now  that the cold season has passed, the hot season will gradually arrive with fine rain. After that, it’s the abundant harvest season. In the end, it will be the cold season again.”

Yang Yi also felt that it’s clearly warmer than when he first arrived in this world. The weather must be slowly growing warmer.

This was similar to the spring, summer, autumn, and winter season pattern on Earth, which means that it should now be spring, the ideal season for planting.

But Jiao was only familiar with the environment of the Blackrock tribe. She didn’t know the weather very well and also didn’t know the specific climate changes that may entail.

Jiao said, “At present, it can be inferred that the weather here should be hotter and more humid than the Blackstone tribe. The Blackstone tribe is very cold in winter. The summer is very hot and dry, moreover, the soil is not as loose as it is here.”

“The temperature here varies greatly between night and day. I don’t know whether the seedlings can survive such drastic changes.” This was Yang Yi’s biggest worry.

The new location wasn’t as cold and humid as Black Forest, and the temperature there was higher by one or two degrees.

Especially when the sun rises during the day, the rise in temperature can be felt clearly, but at night, the temperature tends to drop very low.

He bought a lot of plastic foil and it could be used to avoid the seedlings from being hurt due to frost, but these were chemical products that needed the petroleum, machinery, technology, etc. It was too difficult if they wanted to manufacture them.

This was unlike metal, which he could weld by using some ancient technology to produce tools as long as he found a metal mine.

At most, the quality and efficiency of the tools may not be too high, but they can at least use them to serve their basic needs.

Yang Yi didn’t want to rely too much on modern science and technology to avoid these people from falling in a trap. Also, he was worried that it would make them find it difficult to adapt in the future from cutting the process of acquiring raw materials and manufacturing end products.

But he didn’t give up on the idea completely. He can use the modern tools to finish the primary accumulation and make the initial world building easier.

After everything was on the right track, he would slowly try to get rid of these hard-to-replicate goods.

“Oracle, let me try,” Jiao said.
