Volume 1 Chapter 98: Sense of Security
Why is this happening?
Ning Chu tossed and turned in bed, unable to understand her own brain.
Back when she was still a man, even though she wasn’t exactly a towering figure of masculinity, she could at least be considered independent, right?
But ever since coming to this world, everything had changed.
She started lacking a sense of security, finding it difficult to sleep every night. Even the slightest noise could startle her awake.
She had become sensitive and fragile, always nervously examining the people and things around her. She couldn’t even travel alone. Tonight, she should have left decisively, but after only half an hour, a few comforting words from Wen Yang made her come crawling back.
She didn’t leave impulsively this time, and next time she might not even have the courage to try.
Why was this happening? She wasn’t supposed to be the kind of person who was extremely socially anxious.
Was it because this world was like a hentai world? Because of this strange, fragile female body? Or was she always like this, but before, with no one to rely on, she had no choice but to rely on herself?
Ning Chu stared at the pitch-black dormitory, unable to sleep.
She couldn’t understand her own anxiety, nor why every time Wen Yang appeared, she would instinctively feel a surge of joy, her unease dissipating, and a strong sense of security filling her heart.
It had been like this last time at the amusement park, and it was the same tonight.
It shouldn’t be like this! Wen Yang was clearly dangerous!
“Aren’t you going to sleep?”
Wen Yang had noticed the bed shaking and heard Ning Chu tossing and turning.
“Mm, I can’t sleep.”
Ning Chu closed her eyes, trying to push aside the confusion she had been wrestling with.
But while the confusion was momentarily set aside, the sense of danger crept back.
What if Wen Yang sneaks into my bed and… does something to me in the middle of the night?!
Instantly alert, she lifted her head slightly, her eyes fixed on Wen Yang, who lay across from her.
After confirming he wasn’t making any sudden moves, she sighed tiredly and lay back down.
Her mind was a chaotic mess, and sleep remained elusive.
Too much had happened today…
In the morning, Yan Xinya dragged her into a plotline. At noon, she convinced Wen Yang to report it to the police. In the evening, she turned into a woman and, due to overwhelming tension, passed out and ended up in the hospital.
A woman… now…
The future, which had already been unclear, seemed even more uncertain now that it was pitch dark.
Ning Chu forced a smile, turned on her side, and curled up, pulling her legs toward her chest.
In the quiet of the night, Wen Yang was also still awake. He lay there, thinking about Ning Chu’s behavior today.
In the morning, she was her usual self, telling him not to talk to girls. By noon, she gave him enough trust and confidence to stand up for Yan Xinya. Then by evening, she suddenly became cold and distant, insisting on leaving and acting wary of him.
Women really are the most difficult creatures to understand.
Wen Yang sighed softly and was about to drift off to sleep when he noticed the bed frame shaking slightly.
He stayed still, listening carefully to the faint sounds within the room.
Ning Chu was crying…
The trembling became more pronounced, and the sobbing grew more intense, mingling with short, labored breaths and sniffles.
Wen Yang could hardly bear it anymore.
He suddenly sat up, and at that moment, Ning Chu’s crying abruptly stopped.
“…”
He had intended to hold Ning Chu’s frail shoulders and offer her some comforting words, but now that she had stopped crying, Wen Yang scratched his head awkwardly and lay back down.
…
Ning Chu was woken up by Zhang Shaoqing’s booming voice.
She opened her swollen eyes, staring blankly at the lightbulb on the ceiling, unable to remember exactly how she had fallen asleep the night before.
Rubbing her eyes, she sat up.
Despite having slept through the night, the exhaustion still clung to her body.
“You’re awake?”
Ning Chu turned her head and saw Wen Yang stuffing her suitcase back into the wardrobe.
“No, wait…”
“If you really wanted to leave, you wouldn’t have come back last night. Since you’re here, it means you don’t really want to leave, right?” Wen Yang looked up, smiling as if offering her an easy way out. “Let’s just say I’m begging you, okay?”
Ning Chu pressed her lips together, averting her gaze from that gentle face.
“Hey, Ning Chu!” Zhang Shaoqing, in his usual playful manner, didn’t mention last night’s events. “Didn’t you and Wen Yang drag the advisor into this? Does that mean we won’t have one anymore?”
“The school will probably assign another one, right?”
“Damn! Then hurry up and take my name off the sign-up sheet for the sports event!”
“Take mine off too!” Wang Jie shouted from the balcony as he brushed his teeth.
Wen Yang shook his head helplessly. “It’s just a sports event. Why do you guys act like you’re going to jail?”
As she watched the usual chaos of the dorm unfold, Ning Chu hugged her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them, silently observing the group’s antics.
She still wanted to make a run for it, but her courage and impulse had been completely spent last night.
Well, at least Wen Yang was still a virgin.
Even though he now knew her real gender, and he probably liked her, he was still shy and inexperienced! If she thought about it, Wen Yang wasn’t too dangerous.
Maybe she could use this time to toughen herself up. Strengthen that ever-fragile heart of hers.
She needed to get used to being alone without panicking every time.
Main Quest: Try going out alone more often and build a strong, independent heart!
Side Quest: Keep Wen Yang a virgin to buy more time for the main quest!
“Class is about to start, time to get up.” Wen Yang was already putting on his shoes. “Ning Chu, are you still going to PE this afternoon?”
“Yeah, I think my stomach ache is mostly gone.”
Ning Chu sluggishly climbed down from the bed.
She intended to head to the restroom as usual, but upon entering, she was reminded of the sanitary pad situation.
Closing the door behind her, she muttered to herself in frustration, “How do I even change this thing… Should I go to a public restroom?”
Once again confronted with the newly installed “features” of her body, Ning Chu’s breath caught, and her heart ached.
A whole night had passed, and she still couldn’t shake the feeling that this was all just a dream.
But it was real.
She still didn’t dare to look or touch. After using the toilet, she hurriedly wiped with some tissue, pulled up her pants, and left, then took out a band-aid from her pocket to flatten out the telltale bumps on her chest.
At least there was one silver lining. Even though she was now fully a girl, her life wouldn’t be too impacted as long as her chest stayed small and cute like this.
“Today, I’ll try breaking a plotline to see if the punishment from that sneaky heaven has changed,” she muttered, opening the door just as Wang Jie rushed past her into the restroom.
She was about to start brushing her teeth when she heard Wang Jie, confused, calling from inside, “Ning Chu, why does the toilet smell like blood?”
“It smelled kind of strong last night too.”
“…”
Her face turned bright red as she guiltily kept silent.
