TRANSMIGRATED INTO A NOVEL: Becoming The Author's Favourite

Chapter 3: Chen Peizhi

Peizhi sat at the edge of the bed, earnestly going through the book once more when a sudden knock at the door interrupted her.

The door slid open and a young lady donning what she could recognize as a maid attire stepped in, her eyes darting around the room and when she noticed her she sighed in relief and walked up to her, closing the book in her laps.

"Miss". She called, furrowing her brows. "It's so early in the morning and here you are reading instead of being in bed, do you not care about your eyes at all?".

"Who are you?". She could only mutter in surprise and the maid's mouth hung open in surprise at her words.

"My lady, of course I am Xiliu. Your maidservant". Xiliu mumbled as she moved closer to feel her temples and she sighed. "Pulse is stable, no fever either". Xiliu muttered as she fussed around her .

"My Lady, is this another line you picked up at the market after watching the puppet show last night . I knew it, I shouldn't have let you go to the market all alone". Xiliu kept fussing around.

And as she looked at Xiliu, she felt lost for words as she pieced the bits together. So Xiliu is Peizhi's loyal maidservant and it was so obvious that the relationship between them was quite carefree and lively just like she had read in the novel, too bad she didn't complete the book.

Her silence only made Xiliu stare at her weirdly, she was so fazed at her sudden attitude and didn't even know what to do so she grabbed her hands and started spinning her.

"Xiliu, stop it. My eyes are getting really blurry already". She said, holding the hem of Xiliu's dress and Xiliu stopped spinning her immediately.

"Sorry, My Lady. Do you feel unwell?". Xiliu asked as she immediately knelt before her.

"You naughty girl". She flickered Xiliu's forehead playfully and Xiliu only grinned in return, happy to have her mistress back .

"Then let's get you dressed already. Didn't you say you'll love to see the snow fall, it's sure to snow in a few hours or even minutes". Xiliu chirped excitedly.

"Really?." She asked. From what she read in the book, Peizhi was fond of watching the snowfall and so was she.

"Then I'll go fetch you a new set of dress". Xiliu smiled and left eagerly.

Once Xiliu was out of the room, she sat back on the edge of the bed and sighed in relief.

"Peizhi". She heared that metallic voice again and she immediately hurried up.

"Mr Novel?". She called out. "Why are you here?".

"To make you the real Peizhi". There came the metallic voice again and she was stunned.

"What do you mean, I mean I'm stuck here already so . ."

"You are already stuck here in the body of Peizhi but you still carry the memory of an alien and nothing really about who you are Peizhi. If this goes on, you might not be able to complete the story accordingly and will get stuck here forever".

Before she could ask any other questions, she suddenly felt dizzy and had to hold her head to keep still.

"Now the game begins Peizhi. Till we meet again". She heared the metallic voice again and then a swooshing sound of the wind and she could tell he was gone.

So she slowly raised her head up only to notice a golden handwriting floating in the air. "Chen Peizhi, the First Mistress of the Chen Mansion and the only legitimate daughter . . ."

"Miss"!!!. She was so engrossed in reading the words that she didn't even realize when Xiliu opened the door and approached her with a new set of clothes.

"What are you looking at over there, there's nothing special". Xiliu smiled.

"Nothing special". She repeated after her.

"Yes". Xiliu answered, glancing at her weirdly and as she noticed her confused stare, she composed herself.

"I thought I saw something over there".

"It's okay My Lady". Xiliu grinned and walked to her . Seems like she was the only one who could supposedly hear Mr Novel voice and also see the words but it didn't matter anyways.

_______________

The air was crisp and biting as delicate snowflakes danced from the overcast sky slowly blanketing the courtyard in a pristine layer of white.

Peizhi's heart raced with excitement as she threw open the door to her chambers, her eyes sparkling as she caught sight of the snow falling outside.

"Snow, it's snowing". She exclaimed, a giddy laugh escaping her lip as she darted forward, her feets barely making a sound on the wooden floor.

Her robe trailed behind her elegantly, fluttering in the cold wind as she rushed towards the courtyard, the allure if the winter wonderland drawing her in like a magnet.

"My Lady, My Lady. Please wait". Called Xiliu who was hurrying after her. She clutched a thick fur lined coat in her arms, her voice tinged with concern and exasperation. "You'll catch a cold without your coat, please slow down".

But Peizhi paid no heed, her thought consumed by the sight of the fresh snow blanketing the courtyard like a soft, glittering carpet.

The cold stung her cheeks and she warmly welcomed the sensation, her breath came out in soft puffs of mist and she twirled on her toes, her hands outstretched and her laughter echoing through the courtyard.

"My Lady, be careful". Xiliu called again, her steps quickening as she struggled to catch up with her mistress. The fur coat bounced in her arms, it's heavy weight however slowing her down.

Just as Peizhi's slippered feets reached the edge of the courtyard where the snow was the thickest, there was s sudden collision.

A young maid with her hands full of firewoods turned the corner too quickly and crashed directly into Peizhi with a heavy thud.

Even the world seems to move in slow motion as Peizhi stumbled, losing her balance in an old fashioned manner.

Her hands flailed but it was of no use as she fell backwards, head first into the snow with a muffled gasp, the cold immediately slipping into her robes and she sneezed the moment her body hit the ground, the sudden and unexpected chill shocking her senses.

"Achoo".
