Chapter 88: Sudden surprise helpers
Y/n's POV
When I ran out to meet Takemitchy and saw Chifuyu waiting for him on his bike, I didn't stop running. I ran all the way to him, leaping to wrap my arms around him in the tightest hug I could. Not once had I not missed him or even blamed him for not coming to see me again. I wasn't angry, but I took this moment to jerk away and hold his face so he wouldn't be able to look away from me.
"Chifu…." I could see his eyes filled with sadness and regret as he waited for me to continue. "I know what you're thinking and stop that. I could never hate those I care for. So, stop beating yourself up for whatever you're blaming yourself for and hug me back, jerk!"
His features softened as he returned the hug in the gentlest way imaginable. He pulled away with a small smile. "I heard you were here, and so did someone else, too." He motioned his head a bit further behind him. I looked past him, and my eyes widened.
I can't believe it…did he make Hakkai come? I know Chifuyu isn't that kind of person, but I thought Hakkai would never speak to me again.
Hakkai stood back against his bike awkwardly as I made my way toward him. I remembered the last time I saw him, he had been so angry with me and while I didn't blame him, I wanted to be careful to not anger him again out of understanding, so I refrained from touching him and stuck with giving him a small smile.
I stopped a few steps away from him leaning on his bike and waited for him to say what he needed to.
Does he hate me now? I know he's hurting, but I really didn't mean to hurt him…
"Taka told me what happened when you were there with him that day." My blood ran cold when he said this since I wasn't sure what to expect from him at all. I suddenly felt warm arms embrace me, and while it was extremely brief, when he pulled away, I couldn't help but beam at him. He hadn't looked at me in the face yet, but when he finally gained the confidence to do so from the corner of his eye, his features softened, but his face turned a bright red.
He shook his head as he got on his bike. He jabbed his thumb behind him. "Let's get going." As I made my way toward him, suddenly the snow stopped midfall. By stopped, I mean it hung in midair. I glanced around me as I looked from Hakkai, to Chifuyu, to Takemitchy, all of which were frozen as well.
It suddenly felt as though something incredibly powerful was nearby. I continued to look around, but turned to see a very familiar face.
"Baji?!?!?!" I squeaked. He continued to stare at me before he smiled that same toothy smile.
"'bout time you can see me. Screaming in your ear is annoying but it's the same because you don't listen either way, woman!"
Seriously? He's scolding me???
"Baji, you don't have much room to talk when you also didn't listen and that's why you're here with me." A man with black hair and a chain necklace spoke from my side. I looked at him like a deer in headlights.
"DID I DIE?!?!?" I squeaked out.
"NO!!!" They both yelled.
"By the way, dumbass…" Baji's smiled warmly at me. "Thanks for taking care of my mom. She didn't know it was you dropping off food, but I do."
I smiled. I hadn't done much and I couldn't do it very long. When he had passed, I baked a few things before putting it in a basket with a letter at her door. I knew it wasn't enough, but I wanted to try anyway.
"I also heard what you wrote!" He smirked and I looked at my feet as he laughed.
This is beyond awkward.
"Well, hi there my little nuisance!" Out of nowhere, a black cat waltzed up to me. As it approached me, it morphed from a cat form to a more human one that carried an expression that screamed rage and irritation. The change in the atmosphere made me take a step back in fear.
"Figures." Shinichiro spoke as he moved in front of me.
