Chapter 4: First friend
It's been 2 months, and I still couldn't think of a way to get to her. I talk to her often though, and my mom dang near killed me when she saw our phone bill. But even with the scolding, it was worth it.
I sat at the dinner table picking at my dessert. How can I help them if I can't even get there to them. I'm a kid with no money.
"Hon, what's wrong?" My mom prodded.
I let out a sad sigh. "Nothing. Just thinking." I mumbled.
"Sure."
I really don't want her to start scolding me again. She remained silent for a moment as I sulked.
"Is it about your friend Emma?" My eyes jumped up to meet hers. I slowly nodded. I had already told my mom about what happened to Emma with tears in my eyes as if it had happened to me. Now I'm crying again.
"I don't know if you know this," My mom started. "But we have a family member in the military who is stationed in Japan."
Wait..
"What?" I know the answer seems obvious, but I don't want to get my hopes up only to be wrong.
"Yeah, your Aunt Maxie. I actually talked to her a few days ago. She asked how you were and I told her about your friend. She offered for you to stay with her any time if you…"
I stood up from the table in such a rush, I banged my knew underneath it.
"I WANT TO GO! Owwwwch!"
Turns out my ticket to help my friend was there for me after all. Seems really too good to be true. But am I gonna question it?
NO.

I had skyped Emma to see what she thought about me coming to see her. It took me a while to get it out because I still wasn't sure if she wanted to even meet me. I finally spat it out.
"Emma, would you be okay with me coming to see you?"
I was met with heart stopping silence. I began wishing for the earth to open and swallow me whole when I heard her sniffle.
"Y/n, I would love that so much!" She's crying, but they are happy tears.
"Emma, you seriously scared me. I thought you were going to say you hated me or something."
She started laughing. This is the first time I've heard her laugh since Shinichiro died 2 months ago. "You're my best friend. I could never hate you!"
"Oi, I wanna meet you too! Stop making Emma cry and hurry up and get here."
After some muffled sounds of "Mikey GET OUT!" and sounds of pillows and other objects being thrown around, I just sat and I smiled softly. I finally have…a real friend.
