Chapter 8: A Deal Struck
Viktor kept on moving the stack of cash in front of Lorna's face until she caved under the pressure of her current financial situation. She reached out with open hands before she accepted his deal.
"I will do it, I will keep your secret. I really need that money."
He handed her the stack stack of one hundred 100 dollar bills which was 10,000 dollars in total. He was pleased that he didn't have to brain wash her as he was still curious about something.
"Before I let you go, you are going to have to sign a contract with me. Now, repeat after me, I, Lorna Dane swear on my soul to never speak, write, or in any such way talk of Viktor Cromwell or his powers to another without his consent."
She looked at the money in her hand before she did as he instructed.
"I, Lorna Dane swear on my soul to never speak, write, or in any such way talk of Viktor Cromwell or his powers to another without his consent."
Viktor surged mana into his hand which caused his hand to glow ominously. He held his hand out to her which she instantly shook. The moment she did so, his mana flowed into her soul and she felt a knot form in her mind.
It felt weird and she tried to pull away, but Vikor held her hand for longer. When the contract was complete he released her causing her to release a breath she didn't know she was holding. With his secret secure, he reached into his shadow and pulled out another stack of 10,000 dollars.
"Here, consider this a bonus."
He tossed it to her which she jumped to catch. She hugged both stacks of money close as this money could fix her miserable situation. However, now that she thought about it, how would she explain this increase in money?
Regardless, this money would keep her a float for a while so she was thankful regardless. Letting Viktor live in the house she was renting in exchange for keeping his secret and 20,000 dollars felt perfectly fair.
"Thank you for this, I will leave you two alone, but I should go."
She turned around and was about to leave, but Viktor called out to her.
"Hold up, I got some questions for you."
She turned around as he walked toward her. When she looked up at Viktor she just knew he was huge, 6'6 at least, covered in dense muscles and his strange eyes. His irises were such a bright blue they stuck out against his black sclera.
"What is it?"
He walked closer and he grabbed her chin with one hand. He looked at her face then he ran a hand through her hair. She felt a bit odd to have him do this, but she knew he was the one in charge at the moment.
"Tell me, have you ever felt any weirdness in your body? Has your hair ever glowed green or anything? Do you think you can move metal with your mind or something? Like a Meta-Human?"
He eventually released her face which made her fix her hair with her free hand.
"Uhh, no. I have never felt super, and my hair hasn't glowed green before."
He squinted his eyes as he looked at her which made her nervous.
"That is too bad, so where are you staying right now?"
Lorna didn't hide anything from him as she spoke truthfully.
"I am staying with my Father, John Dane."
"You got a picture?"
She reached into her pocket, pulled out her phone, and showed him a picture of her dad. Viktor instantly stopped worrying as that was very much not Magneto.
"I see. Well then, nice to meet you, Lorna. If you ever want to talk, I will be here until I join The Justice League. You may see me on TV when I hit it big, but I am still in seclusion."
Lorna was now curious so she decided to ask.
"Why are you in seclusion?"
He decided to explain as with the contract in place she couldn't say anything.
"I am in the process of learning more of the magic arts and it really helps to have somewhere to do my research alone. As for why I am being a vigilante, it is a good way to reduce crime at night and I get to prevent drugs from being sold in Central City.
The issue is that magic takes a long time to learn which is why I am keeping to myself. It would be helpful to an assistant who could handle all the more annoying parts of my life."
He glanced over at Lorna who he wanted to see if it was just a coincidence or if she did have the power of Polaris.
"You interested?"
She pointed at herself.
"Me? Why me?"
He shrugged as he wanted to see if she would turn into a Meta-Human with her magnetism powers and if they could learn magic. Plus, she seemed in need of money, and having someone clean the house up for him would be convenient.
"Consider it a hunch. For now, I have things to do, I won't damage your house and will tell you when you leave. If you ever want to talk or see the house, come visit. My seclusion doesn't allow much people interaction. So, if you want to talk here I am."
With that, she stepped out of the house which he closed behind her. When she was out of the house she took a deep breath before calmly walking away. Along the way, she kept thinking of Viktor, Yami, and the fact in the back of her mind she could feel the contract she made.
She opened her mouth and thought of talking of Viktor and she instantly felt the contract tighten. It was a warning, which made her swear to never speak of him to anyone. However, when she felt the money she had in her bag, she smiled as this could be her way out of financial trouble.
If she had to be the assistant of a scary mage and his soul-eating dog, why not? She instantly turned around and since she hadn't gone far, she was back at the house. When she knocked on the door, Viktor instantly opened it.
"You forget something?"
She shook her head.
"No, I thought about it and is your offer still open? The one of your assistant?
He nodded.
"It is."
She smiled as she tried to ease her nerves.
"I accept, I will be your assistant."
He glanced over at Yami before shrugging.
"Welcome aboard I guess. I don't have anything for you to do now as I am not a messy person, so just keep in touch. I don't have a phone, but you know where I live. You can come during the day as I work at night. Oh and how old are you?"
"23."
When he heard that he was surprised that she shared his exact age. He had just turned 23 as well so it was a bit perfect.
"Me too and before you think I am some old mage who is staying young through magic, I just started learning magic two months ago."
He had arrived in DC in mid-April and now it was early June. Hearing they shared the same age made Lorna a bit less apprehensive.
"Got it, I will stop by tomorrow."
With that, she really went home which she would not tell her Father about. Otherwise, she would go blind and mute. Once she was gone, Viktor had to find a way to see if she had the MetaGene or not.
Much like the X gene, some people had it and the cause was that Burning Martians the true Martian race had experimented on early humanity. They then got split into Green and White Martians as they were too powerful by the Guardians Of The Universe.
Once Lorna was gone, he returned to the house before checking the time. It was still 5 PM so he still had more time to continue his training. He waved his hand and opened another Bounded Field, and this time he went outside.
When he looked at the shimmering purple sky, he smiled as he could go wild in Bounded Fields. They also made it impossible for others to track him down without them being magic users as well.
He decided to spar with Yami for a couple of hours as it was good to always practice his basics. Yami could tell what he wanted so, with a grin a large greatsword emerged from the shadows which Yami took into his jaws.
Viktor created a claymore which he used to get into a combat stance. Yami lowered his center of gravity before shifting the sword in his mouth to his right side. Both of them lunged at the other at blinding speeds.
Viktor swung the blade down with incredible strength, but Yami blocked his swing with just the strength in his jaws. After the clash, Yami kicked with his front feet back before he ran toward Viktor.
Viktor began to run around at blinding speeds enhanced by black lightning coating his body. Yami squinted his eyes as black lightning surged up his sword as he copied Viktor's technique.
Both of them rushed at each other again and this time they got a high-speed exchange of blows. Viktor lept into the air before raising his sword in the air. Black fire and black lightning ran up his blade before he released it in a sword slash.
Yami for his credit braced before he leaped into the air and swung his sword slashing through Viktor's attack. When Viktor saw that, he grinned as Yami truly was one of the best at swords. With just his mouth and teeth, Yami could maneuver a sword with insane skill.
After cutting through Viktor's attack, Yami formed shadow wings before arcs of black fire burst behind him. Viktor copied him, but this time he used holy fire causing almost angelic wings of purple fire to appear behind him.
Mid-air the two clashed causing black and purple fire to fight without stopping. Purple and Black lightning followed suit as the two of them went fully wild. During the fight, Viktor began to think of something.
The Holy Fire of Incinerate Anthem was made by combing light and fire like Baraqiel did for Holy Lightning, but enhanced by the holiness in the cross itself. Could he just use Light by itself without the fire? As he thought that, he could feel his second Sacred Gear and the consciousness inside react to his desire.
The left side of his soul reacted causing his left eye to glow bright white. Behind Viktor, almost 50 spears of light formed which Yami noticed. He squinted his eyes as from behind him, 50 spears of pure darkness formed.
The two of them charged forward while their spears hit each other causing explosions of light and dark magic exploding around them. The battle ended when their swords struck the other.
Viktor and Yami both did away with their wings and weapons causing them to fall toward the ground. When Viktor landed, he opened his hands and caught Yami in midair.
"Well done buddy."
Yami grinned causing his toothy dog smile to be seen. Viktor sat down causing Yami to jump in his lap. As Viktor scratched the back of Yami's ears, Viktor focused on his Second Sacred gear which had reacted to his desire.
He raised his left hand and he created a spear of light meaning he had gained the opposite element that Canis Lykaon gave him. Meaning he now had Light Magic, Darkness Magic, Cursed and Holy Fire, Lightning, and maybe more in the future.
He reached up and grabbed Incinerate Anthem around his neck.
'Thanks.'
He didn't get a response, but he could swear he felt that the spirit of the Sacred Gear was pleased with him.
---
Deep in the left side of his soul, in the core Incinerate Anthem the spirit merged with the holy cross gazed out at Viktor. Most Longinus even if they didn't have a creature merged with them were slightly sentient.
Incinerate Anthem was fully sentient and had been observing Viktor until now. However, not just Viktor, but the second Sacred Gear bound to the same soul which had split Viktor's soul in half.
Lykaon which inhabited the right side of Viktor's soul was powerful, one of the strongest Sacred Gears made by God. Unlike Lykaon which was made from a God-slaying blade and The First Werewolf, Incinerate Anthem was created from the merger of the Holy Cross and the Soul of an Angel.
When Viktor had used pure Light Magic, he had tapped into the power of the Angel merged with the Cross. A good feat of power and he hadn't even achieved a Balance Breaker just yet. She did wonder how far he could push with two Longinus.
Regardless, it would be intresting to watch.
'Show me how far you will go.'
She then closed her eyes and went back to sleep. It wasn't time to meet Viktor personally yet after all.
(This is my own take on the Incinerate Anthem. A Seraph merged with the cross rather than something else.)
