Chapter 251: encounter [2]
___
Aoki said, "Let's go check out the Thunderbolt Pirates first."
First of all, the man earlier mentioned that Leig is the person who knows the most about the core area of the bipolar sea. It was said that his dream was to become the first person to cross the bipolar sea, and he had launched countless attacks on the core area in pursuit of that goal.
Secondly, the Thunderbolt Pirates had a fixed base, making them easy to locate.
The Thunderbolt Pirates were well-known in Los silos.
Robin remarked, "From the description, that person doesn't sound easy to deal with."
"It's fine. I'm good at reasoning," Aoki replied confidently.
Robin chuckled. "Like how you just 'reasoned' earlier?"
"For people like that, reasoning with fists is far more effective than reasoning with words," Aoki said with a smirk.
The two soon arrived at the Thunderbolt Pirates' base, only to be turned away at the gates.
After asking around, they discovered that the Thunderbolt Pirates had already set sail.
Fortunately, Leig wasn't the only person knowledgeable about the core area of the bipolar sea.
After a series of twists and turns, they finally gathered the information they needed.
Robin carefully compared Captain Jack's notes with the newly obtained information before looking up and declaring, "The location of the treasure has been basically determined."
"Very good!" Aoki said, his eyes lighting up. "It's still early. Let's go now!"
Robin nodded in agreement.
Aoki cast one last glance back at Losilos, a hint of regret in his expression.
Los silos was like a perfect dungeon. While the quality of the enemies wasn't high, their numbers more than made up for it. Unfortunately, the pirates here had long since mingled with the indigenous people.
He had more pressing priorities and didn't have time to separate them one by one, so he had no choice but to leave them be for now.
After leaving Los silos, Aoki and Robin headed straight for the core area.
Having navigated the route once before, Aoki was familiar with it this time and managed to avoid being struck by lightning.
Crash!
After crossing a massive wave hundreds of meters high, the scene suddenly became eerily calm.
Robin looked up, awe filling her voice. "It's so beautiful!"
Aoki nodded. "I didn't expect there would be a paradise in the center of the bipolar sea!"
Below them lay a small island surrounded by towering waves that formed a natural wall.
The seawater surged skyward, creating a spherical water curtain that encased the island.
Sunlight filtered through the water curtain, breaking into a dazzling spectrum of seven colors.
The serene and dreamlike atmosphere stood in stark contrast to the chaotic waves and torrential rain outside.
"So, where's the treasure?" Aoki asked, his sharp eyes scanning the island below.
The island was covered with dense vegetation, its landscape peculiar and untouched. Small animals roamed freely, but there was no sign of human activity.
Crash!
Another wall of water suddenly broke apart as a massive ship burst through and landed on the island.
"Someone's coming!" Robin's attention was immediately drawn to the ship.
His eyes locked on the flag: a skull and crossbones with a lightning bolt emblazoned across it. His expression shifted to one of astonishment.
"The Thunderbolt Pirates?"
At the same time, a familiar sound rang in Aoki's mind.
[Ding Dong!]
[Mission Received: Competitors Must Die!]
[Competitors Must Die]
Only one person can obtain the treasure. To become the final victor, all competitors must be eliminated.
Mission Requirements:
1. Kill Leig
2. Destroy the thunder
3. Kill three leaders of the Thunderbolt Pirates (0/3)
Mission Rewards:
3000 experience points
2 free skill points
Thunder Fruit
"Why?" Aoki's gaze darkened slightly.
Experience points and free skill points were standard mission rewards, but the Thunder Fruit?
Now that was a game-changer!
Even though the Thunder Fruit was no longer the strongest, its status as a Logia-type Devil Fruit still made it immensely powerful.
The Thunder Fruit is the most powerful of all the Logia-type fruits.
It was placed in the legendary Revenge Chest, a reward said to appear only in rare four-star treasure chests.
"He deserves this disaster," Aoki muttered, his expression becoming a mix of amusement and irony.
He hadn't found Leig in Los silos, yet fate had brought him here to this place.
What kind of twist of destiny was this?
"What did you say?" Robin turned to him, her curious gaze fixed on his face.
"Nothing," Aoki replied, shaking his head. "It's widely rumored in Los silos that Leig's dream is to become the first person to cross the bipolar sea. To achieve that, he supposedly launched attack after attack on the core area.
"But now, it seems that was all just a ruse—false news Leig deliberately spread. He probably stumbled across information about Captain Jack's treasure somewhere else."
Robin nodded. "So, the image of Leig that's circulated in the outside world isn't who he truly is."
Aoki shrugged. "It's nothing unusual. Captain Jack never explicitly stated he left only a single treasure map. We found one in the ruins of Shuigu Town, but others might have discovered pieces of information elsewhere. It's not worth making a fuss about."
However, what was truly intriguing was the timing—Leig and his crew had reached the treasure site at the exact same time. The coincidence was hard to ignore.
Aoki opened his mouth to say more but froze, his expression changing abruptly.
"It seems he's noticed us. Wait... what's he trying to do?"
---
Leig stood at the bow of his ship, staring at the dreamlike island in front of him. His eyes sparkled with excitement.
Ten years!
After nearly a decade of relentless searching, he had finally found the treasure of Captain Jack—the greatest pirate to ever sail the seas over a century ago.
"Those fools waste their time searching for One Piece, something that might not even exist!" he scoffed, laughing maniacally. "Don't they realize there are so many other treasures in this world?"
At first, the crew of the Thunderbolt Pirates were stunned by the sight, but excitement quickly overtook them.
"Incredible! There's actually an island in the core of the Bipolar Sea!"
"Hahaha! Wait until everyone in Los silos hears about this!"
"Quick, who has a Den Den Mushi? Take a picture of this!"
Leig, however, slowly turned away from the sight. His face hardened, his eyes growing cold.
Now that he had located the treasure, there was no reason for these men to live. He wasn't about to share the spoils with anyone else.
"Captain? What's wrong?" one of his crew members asked cautiously, noticing the sudden shift in Leig's demeanor.
The others seemed puzzled as well. Why did the captain look displeased when they had just made such an extraordinary discovery?
Leig didn't respond. His gaze turned icy as he silently raised his hand.
The crew's confusion turned to panic.
This was the captain's signature attack move.
But by the time they realized, it was far too late.
Half of Leig's arm transformed into glowing blue lightning.
Boom!
A massive surge of thunder and lightning filled the air, engulfing the entire deck. Screams echoed as the devastating attack left no room for escape. Within moments, many crew members were reduced to charred remains, lifeless piles of ash scattered across the deck.
Just as the echoes of the attack faded, a dark shadow emerged behind Leig.
In a flash, Leig turned into a crackling ball of lightning, teleporting to the far end of the deck. He glared coldly at the intruder who had appeared.
"Why the rush?" he sneered. "Once I'm done with them, it'll be your turn!"
Aoki frowned, his gaze sweeping across the scene of carnage on the deck. Bodies lay scattered everywhere.
"You're a real beast," Aoki said grimly.
In this world, pirate crews—no matter how ruthless or noble their methods—were typically united by strong bonds.
Not that Aoki felt any pity for the slain pirates, but their deaths presented a different issue.
If Leig killed everyone, how was he supposed to complete his mission?
